In the dynamic contemporary world, characterised by the ubiquitous presence of information and com-munication technologies, the role and tasks of higher education institutions and their links with the so-cial and economic environment keep changing. These institutions also undergo the process of digital transformation and actively respond to the needs of entrepreneurs. Blended learning – a solution which sees the value in building interpersonal relationships while taking advantage of e-learning tools – can significantly increase the availability of an institution’s educational offering for the business sector.

Individuals who are incarcerated are disproportionately affected by chronic disease, mental health concerns, and substance use, compared to the general population. Despite the need to improve health in individuals who are incarcerated, the delivery of quality health care, including health education, often meets with challenges. Quality health education lays a foundation for improved health, and is one strategy nurses can use to improve the health of incarcerated individuals. To address this pressing health need, students in a community health nursing course at the University of Illinois at Chicago provided health education to men finishing their prison sentences at an adult transition center. Verbal and written statements from the men and the students indicate that the educational offering was a positive experience. One man's attendance at a health education class had a life-changing impact on another man at the center.

Chile's school system is a unique social space for analyzing the enactment of market policies and accountability. The article presents research that examines the contents and rationalities of the educational offer of schools in Santiago de Chile. The educational offer was operationalized through external advertising posters that, following S. Ball's theory, constitute fabrications, i.e. images or versions of schools, which may or may not be true, and whose purpose is to respond to the disciplines of the market. In the methodological sense, a mixed sequential approach was used that, in the first quantitative phase, allowed to analyze predictor variables of the use of posters in a population of schools and identify prototypical posters. Then, in the second qualitative phase, the sociocultural interpretation that managers and families made of the prototypical posters was investigated. The integration of quantitative and qualitative findings suggests that: (a) the assistance grant has a significant influence on suppliers' business conduct and positioning strategies; (b) the consolidation of a performative quasi-market induces suppliers to seek to attract a disadvantaged audience in socio-economic and academic terms; (c) educational actors develop arguments for differentiated student profiles according to school types, justifying dynamics of self-segregation; and (d) state program’s and recognitions are recontextualized as advertising inputs and means to certify the educational offering.

Within higher education, programmes in choral conducting are offered of varying kinds and at different levels, from dedicated programmes to single courses that are embedded in other music programmes. The choral practice field is varied; choral leadership is partly a generic music competence and partly a profession. The variety and social reach of the choral movement suggest that the educational offering in choral conducting should be manifold in type and quantity in order to supply the practice field with qualified conductors. n this chapter we take a renewed look at material from three previous studies: (1) a mapping of Scandinavian choral leader education, based on document analysis and interviews with tutors and newly graduated conductors; (2) a quantitative survey on choral conducting competencies, where more than 600 conductors in Norway, Sweden, and Germany participated; and (3) an interview study of twenty Norwegian choral conductors on their professional careers. Although the findings from these studies were salient enough, the implications for choral conducting education were not equally clear. The point of departure for this chapter is that this is due to a series of difficult trade-offs, and we ask the question: What dilemmas do we face when educating choral conductors, and how might we understand these in light of the composite data? The material is analysed by drawing on established pedagogic categories, Wenger’s theory of communities of practice (1998), Jansson’s competence model for choral conductors (2018), and Varvarigou and Durrant’s discussion framework for choral conducting (2011).

Abstract.This paper makes an analysis of the educational program called multi-grade schools operated by the Department of Education in coordination with the Governments of the States with more educational backwardness manifested as a result of the remoteness of populations in relations with state cities or municipalities scarcity of population with children, building schools and comprehensive educational offering. Recibido: 17 de febrero de 2014 Aceptado: 18 de septiembre de 2014AbstractThis research studies how the blended learning model promotes the acquisition of competences, enhances the use of school facilities and increases the educational offering in High School, as established in the Integral Reform of Higher Secondary Education in the Mexican system. Observations to students were carried out in the subject of Computer Sciences, they performed collaborative activities on virtual forums and in the classroom, and afterwards a questionnaire was administrated to know their experiences and opinions about the use of this model. The results show that the quality of the interaction and communication in teamwork can be improve, however the blended learning model showed to encourage the development of general competences and the use of technology, however.Recibido: 17 de febrero de 2014Aceptado: 18 de septiembre de 2014

Abstract Aim/Purpose: Graduate nurses require competency in IV therapy. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) programs offer elective IV education to provide additional information for interested students. After instituting such a course, students' perceived comfort and knowledge of IV therapy were evaluated. Review of Relevant Literature: Studies demonstrated that IV education for nurses in practice helped reduce complication rates. Dated research also indicated that nursing programs were reluctant to provide IV instruction that included advanced skills, such as catheter insertions. More recent literature involved teaching methodology. Methods: A researcher-designed survey was distributed at the completion of an ADN program to evaluate perceived knowledge and comfort related to IV therapy, as well as information about IV education throughout the program. Results: Students who participated in the workshop perceived having a higher level of comfort and knowledge of several IV content areas than those who participated in the course or had no elective IV education. Conversely, participants in the workshop and course felt more comfortable with central line dressing changes and IV insertions than students who did not take either IV educational offering. Conclusions: The standard IV education appeared to provide adequate knowledge and comfort with IV therapy. However, optional IV education benefited students who wanted more in depth IV knowledge and skills. Implications for Practice: The best methods for teaching ADN students about IV therapy remains unknown. However, offering an elective course provides opportunities for interested students to increase their knowledge and comfort related to IV therapy prior to graduation.

From October 18 to 20, 2006, a symposium, Developing and Understanding a Hospital-based Proton Facility: Bringing Physics Into Medicine, was held at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa, Indian Wells, California. The event was offered by the Department of Radiation Medicine at Loma Linda University (LLU), supported by the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) and the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC). The meeting was intended to discuss factors involved in planning, developing, and operating a hospital-based proton treatment center. It brought together some of the most distinguished physicists, radiation biologists, and radiation oncologists in the world, and more than 100 individuals participated in the three-day educational offering. This overview reports on the event and introduces several papers written by many of the speakers from their presentations, for publication in this issue of Technology in Cancer Research and Treatment. Both the symposium and the papers are appropriate for this journal: exploitation of technology was one of the underlying themes of the symposium.
