Abstract Due to warpage and ballooning of high-speed rail track slab caused by debonding and environmental temperature changes during the deterioration of CA mortar layer being extremely concerned in practical engineering, it is based on numerical simulation of typical working conditions and analysis of test model that the deformation dynamics mechanism of track slab of high-speed rail in service is studied in this paper. Firstly, three kinds of damage conditions of CA mortar layer are designed to simulate the partial stress state of track slab under normal, warping and bulging conditions, and the results of model test are compared with those of finite element analysis so that the accuracy and credibility of the numerical simulation method and results are verified. Then, through finite element numerical simulation, the dynamical mechanism of actual full-scale high-speed rail track slab under vibration load is studied. The results show that the warping deformation around the track slab and the bulging deformation in the middle part under the action of positive and negative temperature gradient load caused by environmental temperature change will have a great impact on the structural performance of itself and CA mortar layer; Bulging deformation of track slab is more destructive to its structure than warping deformation. It is of great practical significance to further study the critical position of track plate warpage and bulging deformation, and to optimize and strengthen the structure of this part; The research results are of great significance to further study the deterioration.

Drying-induced cracks are an important issue for bi-block ballastless track system consisting of foundation, precast sleepers, and cast-in-place track slab, which not only significantly affects the comfortableness and safety of rapid transit railway but also reduces the service life of ballastless track. In order to explore its damage mechanism, this work presents an evolution model of relative humidity (RH) in the CRTS I bi-block ballastless track system by considering the actual construction sequence and environmental conditions to simulate the crack propagation induced by nonuniform RH field. Firstly, based on the node coupling technique, a three-step transfer process of RH is designed to separately investigate the influence of the construction sequence on the early humidity field in the foundation, sleepers, and cast-in-place track slab, and then the nonuniform distribution of early humidity field in the ballastless track system is determined. Subsequently, the formation mechanism of shrinkage crack in the system is analyzed, and the crack propagation path is predicted by using the mixed-mode fracture criterion. The results show that the maximum relative humidity gradient (RHG) appears at the interface between the track slab and the sleeper after concreting the cast-in-place track slab, which causes the maximum principal stress due to the drying shrinkage property of concrete materials. When the maximum principal stress exceeds the tensile strength of the interface, an interface crack will be generated and converted to a splayed crack with an initial angle of about 45° at the sleeper corner, which will be further propagated under the action of drying shrinkage deformation and finally forms a transverse through-wall crack in the track slab. The simulated crack propagation path agrees with the observed one at the site well, and thus the results are beneficial to understand the formation mechanism of through-wall crack in the track slab and further guide the construction design of the bi-block ballastless track system.

For China Railway Track System (CRTS) I twin-block slab tracks, the interface between the sleeper and track slab is susceptible to damage under the coupled effect of long-term train load and external environment factors. In order to analyze the damage behavior and identify the type of debonding at the interface, this paper established a three-dimensional finite element model and introduced the cohesion zone model and concrete damaged plasticity model to simulate the interface damage and the inner-layer damage of the track slab, respectively. The interface debonding induced by the temperature effect was analyzed, and the debonding types were identified based on the obtained vertical vibration responses of the sleeper surface under the train load. The results reveal that the damage mainly occurs on the bottom and lateral sides at the interface under the temperature load. The track model can be refined further to obtain higher analysis accuracy with acceptable calculation time using the sequential loading method. The 26 damage features derived from the time domain, frequency domain, and time–frequency domain are in good representativeness in reflecting the damage information hidden in the vibration signals. Among them, the peak values (maximum vertical acceleration of the sleeper) are 55.0, 56.7, 60.3, and 61.6[Formula: see text]m/s2 for no debonding, debonding on the lateral side, debonding at the bottom, and debonding on the longitudinal side of the interface under train load, respectively. Moreover, the identification accuracy of the debonding type can reach 93.75% combining the particle swarm algorithm and support vector machine. It indicates that the proposed identification method is effective and reliable to provide theoretical guidance for developing scientific maintenance and repair strategies for twin-block slab tracks.

The mechanical performance of China Railway Track System type II (CRTS II) ballastless track suitable for High-Speed Railway (HSR) bridges is investigated in this project by testing a one-quarter-scaled three-span specimen under thermal loading. Stress analysis was performed both experimentally and numerically, via finite-element modeling in the latter case. The results showed that strains in the track slab, in the cement-emulsified asphalt (CA) mortar and in the track bed, increased nonlinearly with the temperature increase. In the longitudinal direction, the zero-displacement section between the track slab and the track bed was close to the 1/8L section of the beam, while the zero-displacement section between the track slab and the box girder bridge was close to the 3/8L section. The maximum values of the relative vertical displacement between the track bed and the bridge structure occurred in the section at three-quarters of the span. Numerical analysis showed that the lower the temperature, the larger the tensile stresses occurring in the different layers of the track structure, whereas the higher the temperature, the higher the relative displacement between the track system and the box girder bridge. Consequently, quantifying the stresses in the various components of the track structure resulting from sudden temperature drops and evaluating the relative displacements between the rails and the track bed resulting from high-temperature are helpful in the design of ballastless track structures for high-speed railway lines.

High-speed railways (HSRs) are established all over the world owing to their advantages of high speed, ride comfort, and low vibration and noise. A ballastless track slab is a crucial part of the HSR, and its working condition directly affects the safe operation of the train. With increasing train operation time, track slabs suffer from various defects such as track slab warping and arching as well as interlayer disengagement defect. These defects will eventually lead to the deformation of track slabs and thus jeopardize safe train operation. Therefore, it is important to monitor the condition of ballastless track slabs and identify their defects. This paper proposes a method for monitoring track slab deformation using fiber optic sensing technology and an intelligent method for identifying track slab deformation using the random-forest model. The results show that track-side monitoring can effectively capture the vibration signals caused by train vibration, track slab deformation, noise, and environmental vibration. The proposed intelligent algorithm can identify track slab deformation effectively, and the recognition rate can reach 96.09%. This paper provides new methods for track slab deformation monitoring and intelligent identification.
