Children of Same-Sex Couples

As the United States becomes more accepting of sexual minority people, more opportunities have become available for same-sex couples to become parents. Blended families with a new stepparent, planned families via insemination, as well as adoption and fostering are changing what defines a family. As the definition of a family changes, so must the ways in which schools interact with each family type. The shared experiences of sexual minority parents and their children are explored, and recommendations for schools are made.

Gandharva and Their Livelihood in Baglung District, Nepal

This paper focuses on the changing livelihood of the Gandharva, a minority people of Baglung District, Nepal. This research adopts qualitative data based on observations, case studies, in-depth-interview, and a literature review. The data have been thematically analyzed and interpreted. Gandharva usually follow their traditional methods of singing and storytelling (Gainegeet), playing sarangi. Sarangi is a traditional musical instrument. Today many of them have adopted agriculture, carpentry, mason, driving, and labor jobs for their livelihood. They are forced to change their livelihood due to limited income insufficient to fulfill their basic needs. Switching to other occupations is not easy. They face lots of difficulty. Due to globalization and modernization, modern songs, radio, television, you tube, social media are getting popular than songs of Gandharva. People today rarely listen to Gandharva's songs and Sarangi, which is on the verge of extinction. This paper explores their lives closely to understand their difficulties and struggle for survival.

The Prevalence of Sexual Violence Perpetration in Sexual Minority Men: A Secondary Analysis of Systematic Review Data

Purpose: Prior literature illustrates that sexual minority people (e.g., bisexual, gay, queer) are at increased vulnerability for sexual violence victimization compared to heterosexual peers, including while in college. However, the study of sexual violence perpetration in sexual minority populations, much less specifically sexual minority college men, has been neglected. This article reviews the literature and presents a secondary data analysis of a systematic review on college men’s sexual perpetration rates and associated methodology. We also conducted analyses to summarize available literature regarding publishing dates, authors, and data inclusivity. Methods: We downloaded the dataset and associated materials from Mendeley.com’s data archive. Results: To our surprise, we could not analyze sexual perpetration prevalence rates in sexual minority men using the systematic review data due to absence of reported data across all 77 independent samples including over 5,500 male participants. We found no significant relationship between inclusion of sexual minority men and the use of measurement strategies specialized to assess sexual minority needs. We did find a positive relationship between recency of publication and the inclusion of sexual minority men, r(76) = .24, p = .03, and that most authors/co-authors were women (72%). Conclusions: Preventing perpetration is central to ending sexual violence; therefore, future research should include sexual minority people and use appropriate methodology in the investigation of sexual perpetration characteristics and patterns.

“One Voice in Many Languages”

Chapter 8 examines “Holy Inheritance,” a multiethnic congregation comprised of African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian members. However, the theological ideal of multiethnic worship is difficult to realize in practice. Some congregants tolerate unfamiliar additions to corporate worship as “accommodations” that need to be made for members of different races. Other congregants warn that this perspective exposes a problematic power dynamic: one that construes minority people as “guests” of the majority group’s largess. Over time, the leaders of Holy Inheritance hope to resolve these debates by developing a new, hybrid worship culture that expresses the church’s unified collective identity—one in which there is no sense of “us” or “them” according to race.

A Qualitative Content Analysis of Cardiovascular Diseases Related Health Information Targeted at the Hui Minority on Chinese WeChat Official Accounts

In this study, we focus on the information available in WeChat official accounts about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which are a leading cause of death in China. We are particularly interested in information targeting the Chinese Hui minority people, who have a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs). Our exploratory research therefore investigates whether and how the articles on WeChat official accounts are targeted at the Hui people. We used a qualitative approach to analyze 108 articles. Two related themes emerged: descriptions of how to live a healthy life; and explanations of CVDs and CVRFs. Traditional Chinese medicine likewise surfaced from the analysis as a specific and unique theme in the Chinese social and cultural context. Despite the high prevalence of CVRFs among the Hui, none of the articles included information tailored to them.

Pluralism, toleration, and multiculturalism is a values and concept whom very important to understanding diversity. Indonesia have very much tribe, religion, and culture what makes people have to adapt with their circumstances. Indonesia context who is very diversity, makes minority people feels intimidate and receive unfair treatment. Because of that, the incultating of pluralism concept and toleration become very important to do, especially in Catholic School. Catholic School who have a goal to create holistic education, have bigger responbility to incultate pluralism and toleration in the student. Incultating pluralism and toleration activities can creates with learning process on school, who have a goal to educate toleration values, pluralism, and diversity.
