In Japan, support systems for female victims of sexual violence are lacking. Assistant Professor Risa Koyake, Faculty of Contemporary Social Studies, Department of Contemporary Children, Doshisha Women's College of Liberal Arts, Japan, is working to ensure these women have the support they need and deserve. Her work is particularly focused on women in Japan and the US who are pregnant as a result of sexual violence. Abortion tends to be the assumed preference but the choice of whether or not to have an abortion is tied to the sexual and reproductive freedom of the victim and some of these women wish to give birth. Unfortunately, support is particularly lacking for female survivors of sexual violence who wish to give birth. In her work, Koyake conducts consultations and conversations with survivors of rape. She has experience as a volunteer at a group for survivors of domestic violence so is used to having sensitive and challenging discussions with women seeking expert support and guidance. Koyake's current project is entitled 'The Choice of Adoption or Abortion Among Women Pregnant as a Result of Sexual Violence in Japan and America', and involves looking at existing support and options for women in Japan who are pregnant as a result of sexual violence, ultimately seeking to build on exisiting support to ensure that it is adequate, particularly for rape victims who choose to give birth.

Ensuring access to ongoing exercise programs for older adults with degenerative conditions is a challenge for allied health professionals. E-health technologies can help address this challenge. However, user acceptance is a critical determinant of their effectiveness. This study identified features influencing the willingness of older adults to use exercise software. It focused on user-friendliness, engagement, and user needs. Feedback was gathered via focus groups with thematic analysis used to analyse data. While participants perceived the software as user-friendly and engaging, intention to use the application was strongly influenced by perceptions about whether it met individual needs. While participants agreed that the software did provide a means for meeting their exercise needs, many identified on-the-spot expert support, safety, and social contact as being equally, if not more important than exercise. This study reinforces that well-designed, user-friendly applications will not necessarily engage and motivate users if they do not address user-prioritised needs.

Abstract: The article analyzes the current medical regulations in Russia for conducting mandatory periodic medical examinations (PME) of employees engaged in harmful working conditions, which are compared with the system for assessing working conditions and the system for diagnosing occupational diseases. It is shown that the requirement to conduct mandatory PME of employees engaged in harmful working conditions in occupational pathology centers is not economically justified and is not socially beneficial. A variant of expert support of mandatory PME by specialists-occupational pathologists of occupational pathology centers in order to increase their effectiveness is proposed.

PurposeThere is no proposed solution to address the unresolved issues of constructing the Chinese university intellectual property information service system (IPISS) to promote the whole process service efficiency of IP creation, utilization, protection and management. The purpose of this paper is to propose a complete system, including theoretical framework and system development which addresses the existing difficulties to IP create, protect and transfer for researchers in universities. The paper shares the practice of utilizing the system developed by Wuhan University IP research team known as Wuhan University Intellectual Property Information Service System (WHU-IPISS).Design/methodology/approachFirst, the IPISS of 23 universities in China was investigated on the internet. Aiming at the deficiencies of the system, such as single service type, lack of patent display window, low management efficiency. This paper constructs the theoretical framework, proposes the IP ecological chain model, divides it into four sub-chains and carries on the functional design. Further, under the theoretical framework, the IPISS was developed, including the resource supply management system, user demand matching system, resource assessment system and expert support system. Finally, the system was applied to Wuhan University to provide IP services in the whole process for university researchers.FindingsWHU-IPISS realizes the functions of IP resource supply, demand matching, value evaluation and expert support. It solves the IP needs of university researchers and provides a guarantee for their technology research, patent portfolio, patent transfer and patent rights protection. It also improves the efficiency of IP service and can construct the IP ecosphere in universities.Originality/valueThe WHU-IPISS solution resolves issues of “How to develop the university IP whole process service model, fulfilling the IP service needs for universities' researchers”. The software will be released as open-source for other universities' use. The publishing model is also useful for those universities that intend to implement the IPISS.

Abstract Background Policy-makers expect that integration of health and social care will improve user and carer experience and reduce avoidable hospital use. [We] evaluate the impact on emergency hospital admissions of two large nationally-initiated service integration programmes in England: the Pioneer (November 2013 to March 2018) and Vanguard (January 2015 to March 2018) programmes. The latter had far greater financial and expert support from central agencies. Methods Of the 206 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in England, 51(25%) were involved in the Pioneer programme only, 22(11%) were involved in the Vanguard programme only and 13(6%) were involved in both programmes. We used quasi-experimental methods to compare monthly counts of emergency admissions between four groups of CCGs, before and after the introduction of the two programmes. Results CCGs involved in the programmes had higher monthly hospital emergency admission rates than non-participants prior to their introduction [7.9 (95% CI:7.8–8.1) versus 7.5 (CI: 7.4–7.6) per 1000 population]. From 2013 to 2018, there was a 12% (95% CI:9.5–13.6%) increase in emergency admissions in CCGs not involved in either programme while emergency admissions in CCGs in the Pioneer and Vanguard programmes increased by 6.4% (95% CI: 3.8–9.0%) and 8.8% (95% CI:4.5–13.1%), respectively. CCGs involved in both initiatives experienced a smaller increase of 3.5% (95% CI:-0.3–7.2%). The slowdown largely occurred in the final year of both programmes. Conclusions Health and social care integration programmes can mitigate but not prevent rises in emergency admissions over the longer-term. Greater financial and expert support from national agencies and involvement in multiple integration initiatives can have cumulative effects.

This chapter focuses on the role of experts in civil actions. It considers when expert support is needed—whether as part of the evidence submitted in the action or as part of the advice sought to prepare the client’s case or perhaps for both situations. It discusses the role that the expert will take in both of the situations identified; when permission of the court is needed to engage and submit expert evidence in the action; the need to provide a cost estimate of using an expert and the costs consequences for the client in engaging expert evidence; the management and suitable direction of steps taken in advising clients and proceeding with an action to meet the court’s overall discretion to control the evidence; and the important matters to consider in engaging an expert and in managing several experts in a case.
