The article explores the issues connected to the social role of archaeology and its meaning among the public. In the paper we analyze the European survey conducted by Harris Interactive in 9 European countries (Poland, Greece, Italy, France, Sweden, UK, Holland, Germany, Spain) with a special account on its results in Poland. The results of the survey present that archaeology is a scientific discipline of special interest among Poles and that they appreciate and need a contact and cooperation with archaeologists which would enable society to understand more the importance of our own past.

To understand the experiences and views of childbearing women in the United States and trends over time, Childbirth Connection carried out the third national Listening to Mothers survey among 2,400 women who gave birth in U.S. hospitals to a single baby from mid-2011 to mid-2012 and could participate in English. A follow-up survey directed to the same participants explored postpartum experiences, in depth and well into the second year after birth; views about maternity care; and some additional pregnancy and birth items. Harris Interactive conducted the surveys using a validated methodology that includes data weighting to ensure that results closely reflect the target population. The follow-up survey was reported in Listening to Mothers III: New Mothers Speak Out.

This is a R&D Paper. It describes an analysis coming from a research project about opinion measurement and monitoring on the Internet. This research is realized within "Paragraphe" laboratory, in partnership with the market research institute Harris Interactive (CIFRE grant beginning July 2010). The purpose of the study was to define CRM possibilities. The targets of the study were self-employed workers and very small businesses. The discourses analysis is linked to a qualitative study. It turns around three types of discourses: brands, journalists and clients’ discourses. In the brand discourses analysis we benchmarked brand websites belonging to several businesses. In this first step, we tried to identify the most used words and promises by brands to the target we were studying. For that benchmark, we downloaded "Professionals" sections of the websites. Clients’ discourses analysis is based on opened answers coming from satisfaction questionnaires. The questions we are studying have been asked after a call to a hot line or after a technician intervention. Journalists’ discourses analysis is based on articles, published on information websites specialized in Harris Interactive's client sector. These websites were chosen because we considered them to be representative of information sources, which the target could consult.

According to a survey by Harris Interactive on behalf of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), approximately 600,000 tonsillectomies are performed every year. Post-operative pain and risks were found to be the major concerns of 90% of parents of children undergoing this procedure. Various technologies to completely or partially remove the infected tonsils have been developed over the years; the most common of which is the Dissection and snare method, in which the tissue is removed using forceps and scissors. Among other methods is the ablation of tissue by heating it using a CO2 Laser. There is, however, room for improvement on the effectiveness of the treatment in terms of post-operative care and cost. In order to address these issues, a laser-based heating device is proposed by Gradiant Research, LLC, (Concord, MA) which will heat the tonsil tissue using two opposing light-emitting, temperature-controlled surfaces that are pressed against the tonsils to create near-uniform temperature distribution on the bulk tissue. This work presents ex-vivo, thermal treatment experiments on freshly excised tonsil tissues to assess the corresponding cellular damage and support the development of the proposed method. An Arrhenius model uses the obtained results to determine the necessary exposure times.
