Chronic suppurative otitis media is defined as a chronic inflammation of the mucoperiosteal lining of the middle ear cleft. It is described as a persistent disease that is insidious in onset, often capable of causing severe destruction with irreversible sequelae, and clinically present with hearing loss and discharge. It has been classified into tubotympanic (safe) and atticoantral (unsafe) perforation. Cholesteatoma always occur in the atticoantral type and in marginal perforation. We report a case of cholesteatoma that occurred as a tubotympanic type of perforation.

Post-conflict reconstruction has been one of the most challenging themes for the AEC industry, urban designers and planners, and related decision-makers, especially in complex urban contexts with severe destruction in terms of infrastructure. The city of Mosul in Iraq is a case where there is an urgent need for reconstruction, in particular the housing sector after the enormous destruction caused by the ISIS war of 2014–2017. Today, advanced technologies in construction present opportunities to address post-conflict reconstruction challenges. BIM has been used in recent years since it is an integrated and effective process for planning, monitoring and managing contemporary construction projects. Nevertheless, BIM has not been investigated properly in planning and managing post-conflict reconstruction, especially in developing countries. This paper discusses the potential of adopting BIM in post-conflict reconstruction through investigating the validity of the BIM process in planning and assessing possible housing solutions for the reconstruction of Mosul city, using BIM applications. The main findings suggest that BIM applications present significant potential in the process of planning, assessing and managing the reconstruction of post-conflict contexts in developing countries, where conventional methods are limited, dysfunctional and inefficient.

: The novel SARS-CoV-2 is a new disease that has caused severe destruction to human lives across the globe, including infection, mortality and financial crises, for which, scientific researchers have been directed towards the development of treatment and controlling measures against coronavirus. Currently, there has been no approved drug for the treatment of the disease, but several antiviral drugs have shown therapeutic effects from which, remdesivir and favipiravir are two such drugs. These drugs have shown some therapeutic potential in the treatment of COVID-19 by inhibiting viral enzyme RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The purpose of this systematic review is to provide an overview of the effectiveness of these two drugs based on the clinical trials reported in current published data.

Smile is the jewel of the face, which not only enhances the beauty of the person but also influences self-confidence. Dental esthetic is composed of white and pink component. The long-term periodontal disease results in the destruction of the pink component leading to gingival recession in some cases, which results in elongated tooth with black triangle and unesthetic smile. When severe destruction is present in the maxillary anterior region surgical reconstruction is unpredictable. This destruction can be masked with a prosthesis like gingival mask after the control of periodontal disease. This case report describes the use of the gingival mask as a conservative treatment modality for recession, achieving optimum esthetics and patient satisfaction.

Due to the critical and important structures in the thorax, transsternal surgery on thoracic vertebrae is very complex and rarely performed. We report a case of successful transsternal surgery on thoracic vertebrae. In this study, a 27-year-old man presented to the hospital with progressive lower extremity complaints. Pathologic lesions and severe destruction of the T3 vertebra were diagnosed. Considering the location of the lesion, an anterior approach was performed. The results of this operation have been very successful and have some noteworthy points. In this study, transsternal surgery is supported in patients with anterior vertebral conditions.

Earthquake is a natural disaster that harms people and affects their lives deeply, causing social and economic losses. In this respect, earthquakes lead to the emergence of historical facts in terms of their consequences. As far as we can see from the Ottoman archive documents, except the damage to the buildings due to earthquakes; There were deaths in the households in the center and in the villages. As the state provides financial aid (atiyye-yi seniyye) to help the citizens as much as possible; He also sent tents and food to the homeless. In earthquakes, we see that both the inner castle and the surrounding villages, important places such as mosques, mosques, churches, telegraph houses, and public buildings and government buildings were destroyed. A physician was sent from the Capital for the treatment of the injured and the prevention of diseases in earthquakes. We also see that taxes are postponed due to the earthquake. The Ottoman Empire tried to provide all kinds of support to the people of Islam, Christianity and Jews without discrimination. Although there are many earthquakes on the island reflected in the records; We tried to write the situation reflected in the archive documents of the three major earthquakes in the years 1867-1889-1899, the first two of which caused severe destruction. The most important issue unfortunately recurring in the archive documents is economy.

We present a patient with COVID-19 pneumonia with severe multi-organ failure who developed a liver infarction in the setting of acute illness and following recovery, had persistent cholestatic liver injury. On further evaluation, he was found to have a severe destruction of the intrahepatic bile ducts and biliary cast syndrome and ultimately, was felt to have severe ischemic cholangiopathy in the setting of recent COVID-19 infection. Because of the extent of destruction and persistent cholestasis, he is at risk of secondary biliary cirrhosis and is therefore undergoing a liver transplant evaluation. This case highlights a rare entity of liver infarction and severe cholangiopathy with biliary cast syndrome in the setting of COVID-19 infection. It is the first case of this reported to date, and its recognition in the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic is important. Keywords: Biliary cast, Cirrhosis, Cholangiopathy , COVID-19, Liver infarction.

Abstract Background Photoreceptor degenerative diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration gradually proceed to photoreceptor degeneration. In animal models of photoreceptor degeneration, it is difficult to evaluate the loss of function in the retina, especially in a focal lesion. Methods To induce local lesion in rat retina, one microliter of N-Methyl-N-Nitrosourea (MNU) solution was injected subretinally into a temporal site of the retina. A week after the injection, multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) was recorded to presume the degenerated site. Based on the data from mfERG, optical coherence tomography (OCT) was performed. After the OCT, eyes were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and the flat-mounted retinas were stained with peanut agglutinin (PNA) and wheat germ agglutinin (WGA). Following observation under a fluorescence microscope, the retina was embedded into an OCT compound and cryo-sections were obtained. Results The decreased responses in some divisions of the retina were detected in the recording of mf-ERGs. Most of the decreased responses were localized in the temporal part of the retina corresponding to the MNU injection site. The OCT images at the area recorded a lower response of the data from mfERG and showed the severe destruction of photoreceptors; however, a well-organized retinal structure was observed in other parts of the retina. PNA and WGA staining also showed a decreased number of cones and rods in the degenerated area. Conclusions Subretinal injection of MNU induced the local photoreceptor degeneration without effects on other retinal layers. mfERGs could detect the focal lesion, and it might be a very helpful indication to perform OCT. These methods would help the evaluation of the effects of regenerative medicine in rodents.
