This paper presents the process of designing, fabrication, assembling, programming and optimizing a prototype of a nonlinear mechatronic Ball-Plate System (BPS) as a laboratory platform for STEM engineer education. Due to the nonlinearity and complexity of BPS, task presents challenging issues, such as: 1) difficulties in controlling the stabilization of a given position point known as steady state error, 2) position resolution known as specific distance error and 3) adverse environmental effects - light shadow error, also discussed in this paper. The laboratory BPS prototype for education was designed, manufactured and installed at the Karlovac University of Applied Sciences at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Study of mechatronics. The low-cost two degrees BPS system uses a USB HD camera for computer vision as feedback and two DC servomotors as actuators. Due to controlling problems, an advanced block diagram of control system is proposed and discussed. An open-source control system based on Python scripts that allows the use of ready-made functions from the library allows changing the color of the ball and the parameters of the PID controller, thus indirectly simplifying control system and directly the mathematical calculation. The authors will continue their research on this BPS mechatronic platform and control algorithms.

In today’s higher education, the development of competencies based on the needs of the labour market, the role of practical training and the application of student-centred teaching methods are becoming more and more important. A particularly important question in engineering education is which abilities and skills are important for an engineer in a rapidly changing, information-based society. Therefore, in addition to hard skills, the development of soft skills also plays an important role. Our research was aimed at mapping the competencies of engineering informatics students and determining development opportunities. The Hungarian version of the Big Five Questionnaire (BFQ) was used to examine the students’ personalities. The results of the research showed that the students’ soft skills must be developed – especially in the areas of openness, communication and cooperation. Students’ personality development can be facilitated by courses that focus on self-knowledge and self-esteem, as well as opportunities for cooperation, adaptation, building trust, empathy, and helpfulness. Cooperative methods, collaborative learning, the project method and problem-based learning can also play an important role in higher education.

The article is devoted to the problem of practical skills building and development of students majoring in 125 "Cybersecurity". An analysis of the professional competencies of future cybersecurity professionals, in particular, related to technical protection of information. It is proved that the use of virtual laboratories in the educational process helps to increase the efficiency of the educational process and allows to form and improve the professional competencies of the future cybersecurity engineer. Education becomes practice-oriented. The possibilities of a virtual laboratory workshop based on the NI Multisim environment are considered in the study of disciplines "Theory of circles and signals in information and cyberspace", "Component base and elements of circuitry in information security systems", "Signals and processes in information security systems". The Multisim system is used as part of the training of future cybersecurity professionals at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and has proven its effectiveness in practice.

Recently, there is increasing growth in passenger numbers every year that are passengers, aircraft, routes, airports will have implications for increasing the number of competent human resources based on competency standards in each of the functions and duties in airport services. This implementation was carried out at the Tjilik Riwut Palangkarya Airport. Primary data were collected by interview with airport managers and direct observation, whereas secondary data obtained from reports, articles and standards of airportscompetence. Problems for some personnel do not have a certificate/ license and most of the airtime is depleted and workload that owned for each airport personnel is high. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis towards aviation human resources competency. Overview of the results obtained for the basis technician license are 56% of licensed skilled personnel and 44% do not yet have, personnel who have SKP 46% have a basic license Avsec, 7% Avsec junior license and basic absec 20%, 13% aviation security personnel who have Avsec junior license, 40% senior Avsec licensing and 47% basic Avsec license, 29% flight engineer education had educatilln D III PLLU, 35% DIV Allu, 12% D III PPA and the other below 10%, personnel licensing PKP-PK 43 % do not have a license, 34% have a basic license, 3% junior license and 20% of senior license. Keywords: Human Resources, Competency Standards.

Today's economic development is dynamic, closely connected with high technology applications, a growth in intellectual capital and widespread innovations. Most economically developed countries realise the need to create new solutions to present or upcoming problems. Creating a modern innovative, educational, scientific and technological infrastructure becomes an important issue. The 21st century sets new challenges to future engineering specialists. The paper analyses the currently demanded engineering competencies and modern requirements to engineer training in order to prepare reliable specialists for the labour market. The purpose of this paper is to present a brief analysis of the syllabi and the content of the separate disciplines which ensure qualified student education. An attempt to include geometrical dimensioning and tolerance in design education at TU – Varna was reported in this paper, standards which are the core of geometrical product specifications inevitably required in the age of globalization of industry. The paper gives some hints how to teach efficiently the new generation of GPS standards at the mechanical engineering faculty.
