Manufacturing can be defined as applying physical and/or chemical processes to modify the structure, properties, and appearance of a given starting material to produce parts or products. Manufacturing often entails combining multiple elements for the creation of assembled products. This study aimed to establish a general understanding of development production planning and control and typical products such as just in time and lean production. Method of this study through literature review. This study described activities related to production planning and production control, the difference between lean production and traditional production (push system), and the structure of lean production as known as Toyota system manufacturing.

Direct numerical control is also known as distributed numerical control (also abbreviated DNC), is a common manufacturing term for networking CNC machine tools. On some CNC machine controllers, the available memory is too small to contain the machining program (for example machining complex surfaces), so in this case the program is stored in a separate computer and sent directly to the machine, one block at a time. If the computer is connected to a number of machines it can distribute programs to different machines as required. Usually, the manufacturer of the control provides suitable DNC software. However, if this provision is not possible, some software companies provide DNC applications that fulfill the purpose. DNC networking or DNC communication is always required when Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programs are to run on some CNC machine control. Wireless DNC is also used in place of hard-wired versions. Controls of this type are very widely used in industries with significant sheet metal fabrication, such as the automotive, appliance, and aerospace industries. A DNC system has to fulfill two basic tasks such as first guaranteeing secure, timely data transfer from and to the CNC controllers, secondly administering many thousands of NC programs.

This study aims to developing interactive multimedia using Macromedia Flash and science approach for Engineering Materials courses in study program of Mechanical Engineering Education, Universitas Sriwijaya. The Macromedia flash was used because run easily on a computer or laptop without supporting applications (user friendly). While science approach was used because Engineering Material course are science based. The development of interactive multimedia was used the Rowntree method. The Rowntree method has three stage: planning; development and evaluation. Based on results, interactive multimedia using Macromedia flash and science approach are valid with percentage of 83% for multimedia and 75.58% for matters, practice with percentage in small group test of 86%, and effective with percentage in field test of 100%. Thus, the interactive multimedia that has been developed is recommended for use in study program of Mechanical Engineering Education, Universitas Sriwijaya.

This study aims to developing interactive multimedia using Lectora inspire for vehicle body construction courses for Universitas Sriwijaya students. The Lectora inspire software was used because easy to operate and can be made interactive electronic learning. Research and development method were used because it is an effective for developing multimedia and able to test the effectiveness of the product. Based on results, the interactive multimedia using Lectora inspire software are valid with percentage of 87.5% for multimedia and 86.9% for matters, practice with percentage in small group test of 85.52% and field test of 86.61%, and effective because based on post-test results 80% of respondents was passed. Thus, interactive multimedia using Lectora inspire software for vehicle body construction courses proper to use in Mechanical Engineering Education study program, Universitas Sriwijaya.

Currently, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was utilized to predict the performance, geometry optimization or physical phenomena of a breastshot waterwheel. The CFD method requires the turbulent model to predict the turbulent flow. However, until now there is special attention on the effective turbulent model used in the analysis of breastshot waterwheel. This study is to identify the suitable turbulence model for a breatshot waterwheel. The two turbulence models investigated are: standard k-epsilon model and shear stress transport (SST) k-omega. Pressure based and one degrees of freedom (one-DoF) feature was used in this case with  75 Nm, 150 Nm, 225 Nm and 300 Nm as preloads. Based on the results, the standard k-epsilon model gave similar result with the SST k-omega model. Therefore, the simulation for breastshot waterwheel will be efficient if using the standard k-epsilon model because it requires lower computational power than the SST k-omega model. However, to study about physical phenomenon, the SST k-omega model is recommend.

A programming to make parts are CNC Programming (Computer Numerical Control Programming) for machines. An NC program consists of a sequence of instructions that control the motion and automatic sequences of an NC Machine to perform a particular processing task. In a general sense, the term NC programming refers to the creation of control data for machining workpieces on NC and CNC machines. NC programming has a decisive influence on the cost-effectiveness and profitability of NC manufacturing. The selection of a programming system is mostly guided by the need for software that is suitable for the application at hand, readily available, and as universally applicable as possible.

Cutting fluids are widely used in machining processes throughout the world. However, this cutting liquid is the source of many environmental pollution problems. In order to reduce or eliminate the effect produced by cutting fluids, it is necessary to switch to a continuous machining technique such as using small amounts of cutting fluid, liquid nitrogen, vegetable oil or compressed air as a cooling lubrication medium. Cryogenic coolant is found to be more efficient, economical, cost-effective and environmentally friendly when compared to the conventional coolant, especially in mass production. In machining difficult-to-cut materials such as thin walled materials for the aerospace industry, cooling applications are needed. Ni-based super alloy, Inconel is a material for aerospace applications because of its high durability to wear and material that is resistant to oxidation and corrosion at high temperatures. This paper presents a review and explanation of thin wall machining using cryogenic cooling systems on Inconel or aerospace materials.

Application product development and manufacturing using computer-aided technologies and what has already been implemented successfully in some segments of large-scale industry and suppliers. This study aimed to established a general understanding of the development of digital product development and manufacturing. The method of this study is a review of smart manufacturability analysis for digital product development. This study described product development is supported by CAD CAM and CAE programs from design and development with Cloud-Based Design with Manufacturing (CBDM). The results  from this journal review are to know the factors that influence the results of 3D printing and how to fix these problems. The problem is by using cloud base there are still problems when translating digital forms into physical forms in the form of STL. or obj in this case using FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling). can be improved by using 3D SLA printer technology because SLA (Stereolithography) can produce good print results and complicated designs

Computer network is an interface of two or more computers that is built for the purpose of sharing, information, data, and resources. Computer network has nodes that serve as the origin, route, and receiver of data. Computer network is built using a combination of hardware and software. LANs and WLANs are the most common form of computer network and they are used intensively and extensively in CAD/CAM/CAE applications. This review talks about the latest implementation of LANs/WLANs in CAD/CAM/CAE applications, their limitations, and consideration for their usage. There are four aspects that a LAN/WLAN system must fulfill which are Fast, Expandable, Reliable, and Secure. LAN and WLAN including their many standards each has different properties which influence their implementation in CAD/CAM/CAE applications.

A configuration system for a product and model requires a parametric design. Where the system is made first, the first thing that needs to be done is the determination of the model. In this journal will discuss the configuration model that is the application of parametric design methods in the MTO environment. CNC program, the result is a variant of a product with good quality so that it can increase the production quantity. High potential short production time costs incurred a little and increase profits. CNC programs are made with various parameters then proceed with a product configuration system that will automatically run in the CNC program.
