The objectives of this study were to describe the exposure of references in Elementary English textbooks. This study revealed that 96% in the attempt to teach the students the reference as the semantic properties of the objects. No systematic and organized attempts to expose the references which enable the students to develop their mental image critically and systematically. Exposure of senses is also found in the textbook although their occurrences are very few and limited in terms of number (4%) and types of sense. The sense exposed in the textbook is limited to attributes of various objects having the same expression and proper names. Systematic and purposeful organizations of this exposure are not found either. This might be caused by the lack of knowledge of the textbook writer about the semantic properties of objects (nouns), their relationship with the mental image development of the students. For better exposure of meanings of objects (nouns) in English textbooks, theories of reference and sense and other semantic properties of meaning must be taken into account. This research aims at developing a writing assessment rubric for a exposition text. This rubric is made in accordance with the assessment standard of the current Senior High School curriculum, Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) to be used by the teachers. Based on observations made of two high school English teachers at SMA Negeri 19 Medan , it was found that the assessment of students' writing in class XI was done by simply giving points or grades without any clear criteria. Such assessments tend to be subjective, inaccurate, and are not helpful for students. One way to overcome this is to use an assessment rubric. The development of this rubric was done through 7 stages of development, namely research and information collection, planning, developing premilinary forms of the product, premilinary field testing, main product revision, main field testing, and operational product revision. The development of this rubric is based on 16 students' writing. Analysis of data in this study was conducted by analyzing and assessing students' writing in first and second drafts as well as the results of the first and second questionnaires and interviews. The results show a rubric that can be used by the teacher to score students’ writing.

Adiwana Unagi Suites is one of the most affected businesses in the hospitality sector during the Covid-19 period, but it is one of the hotels that can survive in Ubud Bali. This hotel has a very high score of 9.6 on booking.com, but throughout 2020 there were several reviews stating that the English of the hotel staff was not good. As long as the hotel is open until the end of 2020 the management has never carried out English language training to hotel staff. The implementation of the English for Specific Purposes training was carried out using an experimental research study which was carried out for six months, from January to June 2020. The implementation was carried out using youtube as a learning medium, and other online platforms such as kahoot, google form and live worksheets. The results of the implementation of the English language training carried out showed progress where during 2020 there was never a tourist review stating a lack of English, as well as an increase in English language skills as indicated by a very significant increase in post-test scores, as well as positive feedback from management.

作为第二语言教学,汉语的近义词教学属于教学中的难点之一,但是我们如果能从学生的母语角度进行句法与语义讲解,这明显能提高教学的效率,减少学生的偏误。本文首先在前人的研究上对汉语“只是/仍然”与“masih”进行总结与理论借鉴;其次,根据语料库的调查,从句法角度将“只是/仍然”与“masih”进行句法位置与组合规律对比,找出汉印尼语的句法与语义之间的异同。最后,从语义角度,将汉语“只是”的【+持续性】、【+强调义】与汉语“仍然”、印尼语“masih”进行语义对比,找出该两种语言的不同点

he study aims to describe types of speech functions and reasons for using them in advertisements. Descriptive qualitative method is applied in this research with sentences found in the dialogue or conversation is the advertisement as the data of this research. The data collected is from the advertisement of electronic media. The research results in the finding of six types of speech function used in the advertisement which are the statement acknowledge statement, question, response statement to question, offer, and command with the statement as the dominant. These types are used in advertisements for descriptive and persuasive purposes.

The discussion of translation used by students has been investigated long time ago in which the setup of the Second Language Development was firstly established, i.e around 1900s. Many Error Analyses on translation have been analyzed by linguists which become the valuable contributions towards the study of translation. This study deals with error analysis of students’ project on translations of English Department of UNIMED so that there could be drawn some factors that make students are in difficulty in translating texts idiomatically. Qualitative method is used in analyzing this study and all the data are taken from students’ projects and worksheets on translation. Among factors that cause students are in difficulty in translating texts idiomatically are less understanding the meanings of the texts, do not fully master the lexicogrammar, do not understand the language concepts, social context, language use, etc.

The research is aimed at discovering the ability of STBA-PIA Second Year Students 2017/2018 Academic Year in using the Chinese Adverb “Tongchang通常” and “Changchang 常常”. This research uses a descriptive quantitive design method with a total population of 67 students. As the total population is under 100, the whole students are taken as the research sample. Students’ ability in using both Chinese Adverbs “Tongchang通常” and “Changchang 常常” is measured by using the test in which is the research instrument. The validity and reliability of the research instrument are examined by using content validity and internal reliability. Internal reliability is examined by using Kuder Richardson 20 formula. The reliability of the instrument shows the coefficient of 0.618 in which may be interpreted as quite a strong value. After passing the reliability score, the instrument is given a test to students. The result of the test is the ability of STBA-PIA second-year students in using the Chinese Adverb “Tongchang通常” and “Changchang常常” can be categorized as quite competent as 61.18% of students reach the average score of 74.72 for “Tongchang通常” and 63.18% of students reach the average score of 72.04 for “Changchang 常常”.

Song is a part of a person that can influence the emotions and thoughts. Nowdays millennial generation really like songs both to listen to and sing, especially western songs that are currently become hits songs. Previous studies have examined a lot about the effectiveness of using songs in learning English for young children. In this study, the authors wanted to examine the extent to which STMIK STIKOM Indonesia students' interest in learning English vocabulary through western hits songs, how to implement it properly, and how much effectiveness of using songs in learning English vocabulary. This study was designed using descriptive analysis through a linguistic approach.
