ABSTRACT Biochemical and histological changes in the aortic wall of rabbits were demonstrated following injection of epinephrine and l-thyroxine during 2 weeks. The widespread gross and microscopic changes were accompanied by an increase in hexosamine content and uptake of 35S labeled sodium sulphate, and an increased calcium content, whereas the collagen content, assessed by determination of hydroxyproline, was reduced. Comparison with the effect of epinephrine injections alone showed that thyroxine intensified the damaging effect of epinephrine on the vessel wall and induced more pronounced mucopolysaccharide changes in the aortic wall, presumably acting as a link in the healing processes.

THE AIM: To study the characteristics of phosphorus-calcium metabolism in patients with neurogenic disorders of urination, taking into account the severity of the manifestations of connective tissue dysplasia. PATIENTS AND METHODS. The study included 90 children, including 60 children with neuro-muscular dysfunction of the bladder (NMDB) and 30 children with enuresis from the age of 5 to 15 years. The diagnosis was established based on a comprehensive examination and according to industry standards. Connective tissue dysplasia was diagnosed in children with the detection of 6 or more small external or visceral manifestations involving 3 or more organs from different systems. Assessment of the severity (severity) of connective tissue dysplasia was carried out according to the point system proposed by T.I. Kadurina et al. Each group was divided into subgroups depending on the severity of the manifestations of connective tissue dysplasia. The determination of the level of calcium and phosphorus in the blood and urine, as well as the calculation of the calcium-creatinine coefficient followed by a comparison of the results in these groups and subgroups. To assess the significance of differences, the Mann-Whitney test was calculated, p <0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS. he level of calcium and phosphorus in the urine was slightly higher in children with enuresis, especially in the morning portion of urine, where the concentration of calcium was 26% higher than in patients with NMDB. At the same time, the value of calcium /creatinine coefficient was significantly higher in the group of patients with enuresis and was 2 times higher than the normative indicators, which indicates the importance of hypercalciuria in the development of enuresis. СONCLUSION. According to the obtained data, the severity of calciuria, determined by the value of the calcium-creatinine coefficient, is significantly higher in patients with enuresis than with NMDB.

The article presents the results of research on the determination of rational technological parameters for the production of chopped semi-products using emulsions from collagen-containing raw materials fermented by bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus. Water dosages are installed in the composition of chopped semi-finished products: 12% – with emulsions from pork skin and tails and 11% - with emulsion from connective tissue. Duration of ingredients mixing (5 minutes), sequence of raw materials laying during manufacture of articles, as well as duration of heat treatment of chopped semiproducts is determined: 25 minutes – during steaming (t = 95–100 °С), 20 minutes – during baking (t = 180 °C), 15 minutes – during frying (t = 110 °C), while recommended methods of bringing semifinished products to culinary readiness are steam treatment and baking, which allow for improved functional and technological (TUS – 79.3-81.8%, weight loss during heat treatment – 5.1–7.9%), structural and mechanical (PNS - 1413.9–1470.4 Pa) and organoleptic indicators (juiciness, appearance, consistency, taste, smell) of these products (9 points according to the 9-point system).

The synthesis of protein according to genetic code of a gene determines the basis of life and a stable proteome is necessary for cell homeostatis. However, errors occur naturally during translation of protein from its mRNA, which varies from 10-3 to 10-4 per codon. These errors are more frequent in recombinant protein overexpressed in heterologous hosts and affect protein functionality. The increasing amount of nonfunctional protein is often related to mistranslation of a gene under stress. In the present study, Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a host organism to overexpress E. coli lacZ gene fusion with GST to quantify misincorporation of amino acid in GST-? galactosidase recombinant protein. The yeast was treated with various stressors such as ethanol, chromium (CrO3), and aminoglycoside antibiotic - geneticin (G418) to induce protein aggregation. The misincorporation of amino acids was studied in soluble protein fractions by mass-spectrometry to determine how much misincorporation occur. We found that under experimental stress conditions the misincorporation of amino acids ranges from 5.6 ×10-3 to 8 × 10-3, which represents 60-80 fold higher than reported level. This paper describes a method for on-the-fly determination of eccentricity of a circular substrate, such as a silicon wafer in semiconductor manufacturing applications, carried by a robotic manipulator, where eccentricity refers to the difference between the actual location of the center of the substrate and its desired position on the end-effector of the robotic manipulator. The method utilizes a pair of external optical sensors located along the substrate transfer path. When moving a substrate along the transfer path, the robotic manipulator captures the positions and velocities of the end-effector at which the edges of the substrate are detected by the sensors. These data along with the expected radius of the substrate and the coordinates of the sensors are used to determine the eccentricity of the substrate. This information can be used by the robotic manipulator to compensate for eccentricity of the substrate when performing a place operation, resulting in the substrate being placed centered regardless of the amount and direction of the initial eccentricity. The method can also be employed to detect a defect, such as breakage, of a circular substrate and report an error condition which can abort or otherwise adjust operation of the robotic manipulator.

AbstractThe relevance of the bulk density as a physical parameter characterizing interplanetary dust grains is discussed. The various measurements which lead to a determination of this parameter are reviewed. The specific case of the collected interplanetary dust grains is considered.The bulk density of interplanetary dust grains has been and is still a matter of controversy. This quantity cannot, in general, be directly measured; it is used to relate the mass and the size of a grain. This duality stems from physics itself as there are interactions sensitive to the mass (e.g., gravitational forces) while others are sensitive to the size or the cross-section (e.g., light scattering, radiation pressure, gas and plasma interactions). The measuring technics of the grains reflect this duality as, for instance, impact sensors are generally sensitive to the kinetic energy and thus to the mass, while optical sensors are sensitive to the cross-section. One sees that the density is not strictly speaking the relevant parameter, but what is needed is a relationship between mass and average cross-section.

Abstract Background: For detection of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs) and antibodies to extractable nuclear antigens (ENAs), samples frequently are screened with indirect immunofluorescence (IIF); further determination of anti-ENA antibodies is performed only when the result is positive. However, because anti-ENA reactivities are found in samples with low fluorescence intensities, we determined anti-ENA antibodies in samples with negative IIF and thus calculated the sensitivity of IIF for specific ANAs. Methods: We collected 494 samples consecutively referred by rheumatologists for routine ANA testing. IIF on HEp-2 and HEp-2000 (HEp-2 cells transfected with Ro60 cDNA) and line immunoassay (LIA) for the detection of specific ANAs were performed on all samples. Results: Fluorescence intensities and patterns on HEp-2 were strongly correlated with those on HEp-2000 [Spearman ρ = 0.852 (P &lt;0.001) and 0.838 (P &lt;0.001), respectively]. Sixty-eight of 494 samples were positive on LIA, of which only 72% (confidence interval, 68–76%) were detected with HEp-2 and 75% (confidence interval, 70–78%) with HEp-2000. Of 291 samples negative on both substrates, 12 were positive on LIA. Connective tissue diseases were diagnosed in four of these patients and suspected in at least three others. Conclusion: The HEp-2 and HEp-2000 substrates perform comparably for fluorescence intensities and patterns and for detecting specific ANAs, but some patients with negative IIF show reactivity on LIA. We recommend testing for fine reactivities, regardless of the IIF result, when the clinical suspicion for rheumatic connective tissue disease is high.
