The current systematic review aimed to evaluate the variables influencing foster parents’ parenting stress, distress and parenting style, thereby supporting their adjustment and well-being as well as that of foster children. A PRISMA-guided search was conducted in three databases. Observational studies examining parenting stress, parenting distress (subsuming anxiety, depression and stress symptoms) and parenting style—all assessed through validated tools—were considered. A total of 16 studies were included, comprising N = 1794 non-relative foster parents (age range = 30–67 years). Results showed heightened parenting stress over time, both overall and compared to parents at large. Neither foster parents’ nor foster children’s socio-demographic characteristics significantly contributed to the increase in parenting stress; yet child-related stress and children’s externalizing problems were its main predictors. Foster parents’ couple cooperation was associated with reduced parenting stress. Moreover, the authoritative parenting style was associated with parental warmth, while the authoritarian style was associated with foster parents’ greater perceived burden, greater criticism and rejection toward the foster child. Evidence supports the mutual influence between foster parents and children. Foster care services should support foster parents’ needs within a concentric modular system, to ultimately provide better care for both foster parents and children.

Siberian merchants as a special social and cultural phenomenon that played a role in the formation of the cultural landscape of the region was reflected in several works of the Russian literature of the 18th and 19th centuries. An important place among them belongs to the stories and essays of the Siberian writer Nikolay Naumov created in the 1870s–1880s and included in the pantheon of populist fiction. These works can be attributed to the texts of “local consciousness”, and they were quite actively studied in the Soviet and post-Soviet times. At the same time, the image of Siberian merchants in Naumov’s works that addresses the problem of regional identity in the context of national identity remained practically unexplored. Important factors in the study of this image in the works of the writer-official Naumov are the interaction of his literary and official activities; the ideology of Siberian regionalism, whose member he was a that time; and the ideology of populism, which also had a strong influence on him. Accordingly, the aim of the article is to analyze the features of the depiction of Siberian merchants in Naumov’s works of the 1870s–1880s as an implication of the archetype, the national type of a merchant in Siberian plots. The analysis carried out in the context of the mutual influence of the various social fields occupied by the writer demonstrates the dominance of the pragmatic possibilities of Naumov’s works over the literary ones. Focused on creating a “reality effect”, all the stories are characterized by essay beginning, abundant use of facts, real events, specific details of everyday life. However, with all his efforts to focus his gaze on the material and its reliability, Naumov certainly and quite clearly communicates his ideological conception to the reader. As a rule, the presented image of the Siberian merchant class is completed and consistent, and therefore rather superficial and schematic, extremely typified. Moreover, the image of the Siberian merchant miroed (lit. “world eater”; exploiter) is part of the collective image of the miroed, which also includes kulaks and officials. The influence of the field of public service can be traced both in the subject matter of the works and in their poetics. In particular, they contain an autobiographical image of the hero-narrator (official), and they are also characterized by clearly defined temporal and spatial boundaries, which strengthens the essay element. Telling the reader about the ethnography and geography of Siberia, the writer (through the hero-narrator) draws attention to its “natural” merits, on the one hand, and persistently voices the idea, which performs a cycle-forming function, that Siberia’s natural well-being and harmony is violated by human intervention often coming to Siberia from outside, on the other. Accordingly, Naumov sees the common role of officials and writers in the development of Siberia as the protection of Siberia from predatory exploitation, which is not typical for the region, and from the destruction of lasting values.

AbstractSubjective well-being (SWB) has been positively correlated with political activity, however the causality of the effect remains debated. By estimating within-individual effects, I show that SWB decreases protest intentions, while its effect on voting is not significant. Despite the mutual influence between SWB and protest, the results suggest that the influence of SWB on protesting is stronger than the reverse effect, thereby setting an agenda for future research in this domain.

The object of the study. Regional economy. The subject of the study. Socio-economic relations, which transform into conditions that cause threats and affect the level of personal welfare in the territory of residence. The Purpose of the study. Diagnosing the welfare of the individual in the territory of residence taking into account the impact of the security and cooperation in the region. The Main Aspects of the Article. 1. A modular scheme of the welfare of the individual in the territory of residence is presented. Two insignificant modules for diagnosing the well-being of an individual in the territory of residence were removed and multicollenarity of indicators was excluded. 2. We developed an express-diagnostics of the welfare of the individual in the territory of residence taking into account the security and cooperation in the region based on cross-correlation function. The analysis of the mutual influence of economic security and welfare of the individual in the territory of residence with a gradation in the types of interaction is given. Three types of interaction have been identified: a) a simultaneous increase in indicators of welfare of individual in the territory of residence and indicators of economic security; b) indicators of economic security act as supporting elements for indicators of welfare of the individual in the territory of residence; c) stationary behavior of indicators of both modules. 3. The scalar potential of the interaction between economic security and of the welfare of individual in the territory is proposed, for which a stable position is allocated. This potential takes into account all three types of interaction of personal welfare in the territory of residence with economic potential. 4. The results of the subjects of the Ural Federal District are classified according to main types of crises. Comparison of the situation of the subjects of the Ural Federal District during the financial and economic crisis of 2008-2009 is considered in detail and that of stagnation period of 2016-2019.

This article is devoted to the issue of peer relations, which are an important developmental factor and affect the welfare of adolescent boys and girls. According to many authors, relationships with peers during adolescence carry not only risk as a consequence of peer pressure to undertake unfavourable behaviors, but may also potentially contribute to well-being and life success. The analysis of available research results helped to distinguish two main risk factors resulting from peer relations, which include: mutual influence and modelling of disadaptive behaviours and rejection by peers. The protective factors, in turn, included: mutual influence and modelling of adaptive behaviours, a sense of happiness resulting from peer relations and compensating for other difficulties through peer relations.

A study of subjective safety, its determinants, strategies and psychological mechanisms is very urgent at the present time. There is the theoretical research that is devoted to consideration of the issue of a leading factor in the dyad «the safety – personality features» in this article. On the one hand, personality features determine the characteristics of the safety state, on the other hand, the safety state determines occurrence of personal features. The personal safety is seen as a mental state. The article shows that the safety has all features of mental states. The research was conducted with reliance on age development concepts and mental states concepts. The article presents that personality features are primary and they determine occurrence and particular qualities of the safety state from the perspective of authors of mental states concepts. Authors of age development concepts approve a great part of safe environment in childhood for successful development of a child and for psychological well-being of an adult. From this viewpoint, the safety determines occurrence of personality features. The article shows that mechanism of formation of tendency to the safety state is similar to the process of interiorization as conversion of the external safety (the safety of environment) to the internal (personal) safety. Interiorization of the safety occurs in childhood. The authors of the article take into consideration the stability of personal traits in adulthood and suggest that in adulthood leading factor in the dyad «the safety – personality features» is personality features. Safety need is a basic motivational factor thatinfluences mental life, behavior and activity of human. The safety state and personality features influence together human’s behavior and activity. One of the tasks of the further research is to study the problem empirically. Such examination has theoretical and practical significance. Results of the research may be used in child psychology, advisory psychology, family psychology, military psychology and in other branches of psychology

Abstract One of the goals of the UN Oceans Decade is “an inspiring and engaging ocean where society understands and values the ocean in relation to human well-being and sustainable development.” The UN Ocean Decade also calls for promoting diversity in ocean science, engaging multiple stakeholders, including industries and the wider public, as well as promoting ocean science literacy. The FANTASeas project aims to do this. One major source of inspiration for the general public for millennia has been art and literature. Over the past century, key sources of public inspiration when it comes to science include science fiction and fantasy in books, movies, TV shows, comics and, recently, computer games. Most famously, the TV show Star Trek inspired a generation of space scientists. The idea behind this project is to promote and facilitate the production of popular artistic and literary projects that incorporate ocean science to enhance both ocean literacy and to create more inspirational ocean-related projects. It is proposed that a series of international workshops be organized to connect ocean scientists with novelists, writers, and designers from the: (a) computer gaming; (b) tabletop gaming; (c) TV and movie; and (d) comic and graphic novel industries.
