Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the causal links between public and private university environments and the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of students. Design/methodology/approach The impact of different university environments on the students’ EI was checked using a model adapted from Krueger et al. (2000). The study comprised a sample of students enrolled in business administration from three public and three private universities at first semester (freshmen) and at the last two semesters (senior) in Brazil. The model was measured through various questions and later assessed by principal component analysis to build constructs. Via t-test and path analysis the EI and the antecedents were subjected to a comparative analysis to test the equality of the models across the four categories emerged. Findings The two main types of Brazilian university environments (public and private) do not present significant differences in the way they influence EI and its antecedents. Both the tests of means and the tests of measurement of the structural relations between constructs confirm this finding with only a few exceptions. The result of this study is opposed to other studies carried out in Brazil, by showing that the public university environment is not worse for the entrepreneurship than the private. The environmental effects are mostly equal and they as a whole are not conducive to the development of EI. Research limitations/implications The study comprises business students only, and enrolled on regular universities. It is worth highlighting that evidence was brought to the debate for a group of universities in Brazil. Replicating the study with students from other areas and other universities, as well as students in Master’s and Doctorate programs could enrich the analyses. Practical implications This study provides insight into entrepreneurship education, as to which the university environment is conducive to the entrepreneurship. It brings insights for the development of entrepreneurial universities. Originality/value This study contributes to understanding the differences between the public and private universities environment regarding students’ EI.

This study gauges the development of an historical thinking skill we term reflexive historical thinking and its relationship to economic ideology among a group of undergraduate business students in an introductory history course at a Colombian private university. A survey was conducted twice during a semester in which students answered questions regarding historical agency, personal agency, and economic ideology. We measured the relationships and changes in responses regarding these factors. We hypothesized that students with greater awareness of broad social and economic forces as determinants of historical events would also be aware of an array of social and economic forces informing their personal outlooks. Moreover, we expected such awareness – both historical and personal – to increase during the course. Finally, we wondered how economic ideology influences such awareness. We found little support for the expectation that reflexive historical thinking developed over time, but interesting correlations between historical thinking and economic ideology.

Lecturer performance is related to the quality of educators that are owned by a university. Poor performance will affect the quality and carrying capacity of the sustainability of an organization, in this case the university. There are many models developed to measure the performance of teachers, but not much to discuss the influence of faculty performance itself towards sustainability of an organization that houses the professor. This study was conducted in an attempt to measure the performance of lecturers to support the sustainability of the university. A faculty performance assessment model is developed to see whether the performance of lecturers affect the sustainability of the university. The method used is descriptive and verification of data sample of 275 private university lecturers in Banten Province. Application of Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used to test the model and estimate hypothesis using LISREL Results showed that leadership, motivation, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment affect positively and significantly to the performance of lecturers either partially or together with a contribution of 84%. The perception of organizational commitment variable was high which is good. In addition, responsibility for the improvement of organizational performance based on indicators of commitment to the organization ranked highest score of the respondent's perception. This showed that the lecturers were highly committed to the organization which is a great asset in the process of sustainability of an organization. In addition to the score of a continuing commitment to the organization shows lecturers should continue to be fostered in order to maintain the quality of organizational performance. This study shows that the performance of lecturers can support the sustainability of the organization

Home is one type of off-campus informal learning spaces (ILS). It is important to understand the behaviours of students that use home as ILS. Such information will enlighten universities to provide/improve proper on-campus ILS and/or other academic supports. This research used a quantitative approach through online questionnaire survey during February 2019. The study took business students at a Bangkok private university as a case study. The descriptive analysis was done according to students’ grade point average (GPA) and undergraduate levels. The results revealed how and why students, especially those with different levels of GPA, chose to study at home. This study also suggests how higher education institutions (HEI) can support ILS to students who do not study at home. Students with different GPA levels should be supported from HEI differently. Keywords: HEI, home, grade point averages, learning spaces, Bangkok.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to introduce Task-Based Language Teaching in a bid to energise stagnant English language performances among second-year business students (N = 81), studying a private university in the peripheral areas of Bangkok. Students followed a TBLT learning environment for one semester (16 weeks), and subsequent end-of-term performances were compared with prior attainments achieved under tradition forms of instruction using t-tests (0.05). Overall, TBTL proved to positively influence performance outcomes when compared to the traditional method (TBLT: 60.9 = Grade C+; TRAD: 54.93 = Grade C; p [0.0195] = sig <0.05). Nonetheless, the majority of progress derived from enhancements in speaking skills, as assessments in this domain improved significantly, whereas no significant difference was observed in formal examinations. Further to this however, variability analyses highlighted that upper quartile students significantly improved in both speaking and formal examinations, while the lower quartile cluster failed to show noteworthy forms of progress in speaking, and, formal examination scores exacerbated entirely; concluding therefore that learners’ response to TBLT is governed by their linguistic potential.  The recommendation therefore would be to arrange two separate groupings based on ability for two reasons: (1) assist accelerated acquisition of more proficient students who thrive in a TBLT environment, and, (2) to provide curricular support for struggling students for whom TBLT is not (yet) developmentally appropriate. With the growing population of nontraditional students, questions have been posed as to whether or not student employment results in better academic performance.  This study measures the effects of employment experiences on university and classroom dynamics. Undergraduate business students from a large, private university constituted the sample. They were surveyed to determine the relationship between their university and work experiences. Findings suggest that work and educational efforts do not always compete. For many, it appears the same intangibles that propel individuals to excel in a job carries over into the academic arena.  Implications for Business Education are presented.
