Background:A lot of advancement has been made in the area of β-lactams in recent times. Most of the research is targeted towards the synthesis of novel β-lactams, their functionalization and exploring their biological potential. The C-3 functionalization of β-lactams has continued to attract considerable interest of the scientific community due to their utility as versatile intermediates in organic synthesis and their therapeutic applications. This has led to the significant increase in efforts towards developing efficient and economic strategies for C-3 functionalized β-lactams.Objective:The present review aims to highlight recent advancement made in C-3 functionalization of β-lactams.Conclusion:To summarize, functionalization of β-lactams at C-3 is an essential aspect of β-lactam chemistry in order to improve/modify its synthetic utility as well as biological potential. The C-3 carbocation equivalent method has emerged as an important and convenient strategy for C-3 functionalization of β-lactam heterocycles which provides a wide range of β-lactams viz. 3-alkylated β-lactams, 3-aryl/heteroarylated β-lactams, 3- alkoxylated β-lactams. On the other hand, base mediated functionalization of β-lactams via carbanion intermediate is another useful approach but their scope is limited by the requirement of stringent reaction conditions. In addition to this, organometallic reagent mediated α-alkylation of 3-halo/3-keto-β-lactams also emerged as interesting methods for the synthesis of functionalized β-lactams having good yields and diastereoselectivities.

Background: Since bacteria are the earliest known organisms, there has been significant interest in their variety and biology, most certainly concerning human health. Recent advances in Metagenomics sequencing (mNGS), a culture-independent sequencing technology have facilitated an accelerated development in clinical microbiology and our understanding of pathogens. Objective: For the implementation of mNGS in routine clinical practice to become feasible, a practical and scalable strategy for the study of mNGS data is essential. This study presents a robust automated pipeline to analyze clinical metagenomic data for pathogen identification and classification. Method: The proposed Clin-mNGS pipeline is an integrated, open-source, scalable, reproducible, and user-friendly framework scripted using the Snakemake workflow management software. The implementation avoids the hassle of manual installation and configuration of the multiple command-line tools and dependencies. The approach directly screens pathogens from clinical raw reads and generates consolidated reports for each sample. Results: The pipeline is demonstrated using publicly available data and is tested on a desktop Linux system and a High-performance cluster. The study compares variability in results from different tools and versions. The versions of the tools are made user modifiable. The pipeline results in quality check, filtered reads, host subtraction, assembled contigs, assembly metrics, relative abundances of bacterial species, antimicrobial resistance genes, plasmid finding, and virulence factors identification. The results obtained from the pipeline are evaluated based on sensitivity and positive predictive value. Conclusion: Clin-mNGS is an automated Snakemake pipeline validated for the analysis of microbial clinical metagenomics reads to perform taxonomic classification and antimicrobial resistance prediction.

: Manuscript discussed about the role of polysaccharides and their derivatives in the removal of metal ions from industrial waste water. Quick modernization and industrialization increases the amount of various heavy metal ions in the environment. They can possess various disease in humans and also causes drastic environmental hazards. In this review the recent advancement for the adsorption of heavy metal ions from waste water by using different methods has been studied. Various natural polymers and their derivatives are act as effective adsorbents for the removal of heavy metal ions from the waste water released from the industries and the treated water released into the environment can decreases the chances of diseases in humans and environmental hazards. From the literature surveys it was concluded that the removal of heavy metal ions from the industrial waste water was important to decrease the environmental pollution and also diseases caused by the heavy metal ions. Graft copolymers were acts as most efficient adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions and most of these followed the pseudo first order and pseudo second order model of kinetics.
