Based on the fluid-solid coupling theory, we study the stability of surrounding rock mass around underground oil storage in Huangdao, Shandong province, analyze the stress of the surrounding rock mass around three chambers and the displacement change of several key monitoring points after excavation and evaluate the stability of surrounding rock mass using COMSOL Multiphysics software. Research results show that the stress at both sides of the straight wall of cavern increases, especially obvious stress concentration forms at the corners of the cavern, and the surrounding rock mass moves towards the cavern after excavation. The stress and displacement of the surrounding rock mass will increase accordingly after setting the water curtains, but the change does not have a substantive impact on the stability of surrounding rock mass.

HuJiaDi tunnel construction of Dai Gong highway is troublesome, the surrounding-rock mass give priority to full to strong weathering basalt, surrounding rock integrity is poor, weak self-stability of surrounding rock, and tunnel is prone to collapse. In order to reduce disturbance, taking advantage of the ability of rock mass, excavation adopt the method of "more steps, short footage and strong support". The excavation method using three steps excavation, The excavation footage is about 1.2 ~ 1.5 m; The surrounding rock bolting system still produce a large deformation after completion of the first support construction, it shows that the adopted support intensity cannot guarantee the stability of the tunnel engineering. Using ABAQUS to simulate tunnel excavation support, optimizing the support parameters of the tunnel, conducting comparative analysis with Monitoring and Measuring and numerical simulation results, it shows that the displacement - time curves have a certain consistency in numerical simulation of ABAQUS and Monitoring and Measuring.

The stability control of the rock surrounding recovery roadways guarantees the safety of the extraction of equipment. Roof falling and support crushing are prone to occur in double-key strata (DKS) faces in shallow seams during the extraction of equipment. Therefore, this paper focuses on the stability control of the rock surrounding DKS recovery roadways by combining field observations, theoretical analysis, and numerical simulations. First, pressure relief technology, which can effectively release the accumulated rock pressure in the roof, is introduced according to the periodic weighting characteristics of DKS roofs. A reasonable application scope and the applicable conditions for pressure relief technology are given. Considering the influence of the eroded area on the roof structure, two roof mechanics models of DKS are established. The calculation results show that the yield load of the support in the eroded area is low. A scheme for strengthening the support with individual hydraulic props is proposed, and then, the support design of the recovery roadway is improved based on the time effects of fracture development. The width of the recovery roadway and supporting parameters is redesigned according to engineering experience. Finally, constitutive models of the support and compacted rock mass in the gob are developed with FLAC3D software to simulate the failure characteristics of the surrounding rock during pressure relief and equipment extraction. The surrounding rock control effects of two support designs and three extraction schemes are comprehensively evaluated. The results show that the surrounding rock control effect of Scheme 1, which combines improved support design and the bidirectional extraction of equipment, is the best. Engineering application results show that Scheme 1 realizes the safe extraction of equipment. The research results can provide a reference and experience for use in the stability control of rock surrounding recovery roadways in shallow seams.

The problem about the stability of tunnel surrounding rock is always an important research object of geotechnical engineering, and the right or wrong of the result from stability analysis on surrounding rock is related to success or failure of an underground project. In order to study the deformation rules of weak surrounding rock along with lateral pressure coefficient and burying depth varying under high geostress and discuss the dynamic variation trend of surrounding rock, the paper based on the application of finite difference software of FLAC3D, which can describe large deformation character of rock mass, analog simulation analysis of surrounding rock typical section of the class II was proceeded. Some conclusions were drawn as follows: (1) when burying depth is invariable, the displacements of tunnel surrounding rock have a trend of increasing first and then decreasing along with increasing of lateral pressure coefficient. The floor heave is the most sensitive to change of lateral pressure coefficient. The horizontal convergence takes second place. The vault subsidence is feeblish to change of lateral pressure coefficient. (2) The displacements of tunnel surrounding rock have some extend increase along with increasing of burying depth. The research conclusions are very effective in analyzing the stability of surrounding rock of Yunling tunnel. These are going to be a reference to tunnel supporting design and construction.

Rock bolts, one of the main support structures of the tunnel, can improve the stress state and mechanical properties of the surrounding rocks. The rock bolts are simulated by bar or beam elements in present numerical calculations for most 2D tunnel models. However, the methods of simulating rock bolt in three-dimensional models are rarely studied. Moreover, there are too many rock bolts in the long-span tunnel, which are hardly applied in the 3D numerical model. Therefore, an equivalent anchoring method for bolted rock masses needs to be further investigated. First, the jointed material model is modified to simulate the anisotropic properties of surrounding rock masses. Then, based on the theoretical analysis of rock bolts in reinforcing mechanical properties of the surrounding rock masses, the equivalent anchoring method of the jointed rock mass tunnel is numerically studied. The equivalent anchoring method is applied to the stability analysis of a diversion tunnel in Western China. From the calculation results, it could be found that the reinforcement effect of rock bolts could be equivalently simulated by increasing the mechanical parameter value of surrounding rocks. For the jointed rock mass tunnel, the cohesion and internal friction angle of the surrounding rocks are improved as 1.7 times and 1.2 times of the initial value, which can simulate the reinforcement effect of rock bolts. Comparing with analytical results, the improved internal friction angle is nearly consistent with analytical result. The reinforcement effect of rock bolts is simulated obviously when the mechanical parameters of surrounding rocks are increased simultaneously. The engineering application shows that the equivalent anchoring method can reasonably simulate the effect of rock bolts, which can provide reference for stability analysis of three-dimensional tunnel simulations.

The right bank underground powerhouse of Houziyan hydropower station is a typical deep-buried type with high geostress and complicated geological conditions. To monitor and analyze the stability of surrounding rock mass during continuous excavation of the powerhouse excavation and locate the potential failure zones, an ESG (Engineering Seismology Group) microseismic monitoring system manufactured in Canada was installed in April, 2013. The wave velocity of the monitoring system was determined through fixed blasting tests. And the average location error is the minimum while P-wave velocity is 5700m/s, less than 10m and meeting the system request. By combining the temporal and spatial distribution regularity of microseimic events with field excavation, micro-crack clusters and potential instability zones were identified and delineated. The results will provide a reference for later excavations and supports of the underground powerhouse. Furthermore, a new monitoring method can also be supplied for the stability analysis of surrounding rock mass in deep-buried underground powerhouses.

Based on geologic condition of one tunnel surrounding rock mass, systematic numerical tests had been carried out to study the stability of surrounding rock mass with different distributions of weak intercalated rock by the FEM software ABAQUS and strength reduction finite element method. Some quantificational results about the stability of surrounding rock mass were summarized. And the safety factor and latent slip surface were worked out. The stability of surrounding rock mass was judged by strength reduction finite element method. According to the analysis above, it’s known that the discrepancy of two rules is small; the safety factor is the lowest when weak intercalated rock in vault, and when at bottom, it’s higher than that of in vault. The conclusion can be used to guide the procedure of construction and ensure the safety.

Weak intercalated rock plays an important role in the stability of engineering rock mass. It controls the mechanism of deformation and breakage of rocks. Systematic numerical tests have been carried out to study the stability of surrounding rock mass with different distributions of weak intercalated rock has been analyzed by the FEM software ABAQUS. All of the numerical modelings are plain-strain type with elasto-plastic constitutive law and Drucker-Prager failure criterion. Some quantificational results about the influence of weak intercalated rock are summarized, especially the influence on the deformation, stress of surrounding rocks and plastic zone. Because of weak intercalated rock, the stress of surrounding rock appears the character of discontinuity. In addition, the distribution of plastic zone is also affected. When weak intercalated rocks exist in vault, spandrel and bottom, the situation of surrounding rock is comparatively unfavorable. These results have a certain role in guiding significance to the site selection and layout, the majorization of supporting system and the construction of tunnel of the same kind.

The method of bolt-grouting supporting, grouting into surrounding rock mass by bolts in jointed rock mass roadway, is obtained wide application. However, it is difficult to determine rock mass parameter of bolt-grouting supporting. This paper begins with the displacement, which is measured easily in practice. The method of back analysis is adopted to calculate the equivalent mechanics parameters of bolt-grouting rock mass. In process of back analysis three mechanics models is supposed which are homogeneous elastic model, inhomogeneous elastic model and elastic-plastic model and corresponding algorithm is established. What's more, this paper discusses the stability of inverse algorithm and copes the problem of back analysis parameter probably instable with QR decomposed algorithm and singular value decomposed algorithm, which will be a theoretical base to determine the mechanics parameter of bolt-grouting supporting rock mass and to estimate the surrounding rock stability. In a word, the method is established to estimate mechanics parameters of bolt-grouting jointed surrounding rock mass, and some significant results are obtained, which are of reference for actual project.
