AbstractAlthough a great deal of attention has been paid to entrepreneurship education, only a few studies have analysed the impact of extra-curricular entrepreneurial activities on students’ entrepreneurial intention. The aim of this study is to fill this gap by exploring the role played by Student-Led Entrepreneurial Organizations (SLEOs) in shaping the entrepreneurial intention of their members. The analysis is based on a survey that was conducted in 2016 by one of the largest SLEOs in the world: the Junior Enterprises Europe (JEE). The main result of the empirical analysis is that the more time students spent on JEE and the higher the number of events students attended, the greater their entrepreneurial intention was. It has been found that other important drivers also increase students’ entrepreneurial intention, that is, the Science and Technology field of study and the knowledge of more than two foreign languages. These results confirm that SLEOs are able to foster students’ entrepreneurial intention. The findings provide several theoretical, practical and public policy implications. SLEOs are encouraged to enhance their visibility and lobbying potential in order to be recognized more as drivers of student entrepreneurship. In addition, it is advisable for universities and policy makers to support SLEOs by fostering their interactions with other actors operating in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, who promote entrepreneurship and technology transfer activities. Lastly, this paper advises policy makers to assist SLEOs’ activities inside and outside the university context.

There is a clear research issue for Wales regarding the roles and interactions of government policy, HEIs, SMEs and the creation and dissemination of innovation. A study of the views of key policy makers concerning innovation and entrepreneurship in Wales is undertaken, especially with regard to the development of innovation within SMEs and the policy implications for economic regeneration. The role of a variety of actors (including users and suppliers) is considered, as is the impact of networks of SMEs linked together in patterns of cooperation and affiliation. From the results and the analysis of interviews, key points of significance to innovation, entrepreneurship, higher education and economic regeneration policy making in Wales are reported.

This work aims to shed new light on the relation between institutional performance and firm dynamics. Considering the Italian manufacturing industry and a panel of 3 years, the authors investigate the relation between the time needed by courts to enforce debtors’ obligations and the time needed by enterprises to repay their debts. In particular, we test the hypothesis that efficiency in settling mortgage foreclosure and bankruptcy cases can affect the creditors’ decision making on judicial disputes. According to our thesis, inordinately long waiting times to enforce credit rights may increase the contractual strength of debtors, further delaying payments. As shown by our results, there is a statistically significant positive relation between the enforcement of debtors’ obligations and the adopted payment index, confirming the key role of the judiciary in the dynamics of firms. Indeed, if the time needed to settle bankruptcy cases decreases by 25%, we can expect the payment index to decrease by 1%; while, focusing on foreclosure cases, we can expect the payment index to decrease by 2%. The policy implications of these results are rather compelling. Policy makers could reform foreclosure and bankruptcy procedures to support national economic growth, without additional burden on the public budget.

This paper presents the views of key policy makers concerning innovation and entrepreneurship in Wales. The development of innovation in SMEs and the policy implications for economic regeneration are also analysed. The role of a variety of actors (including users and suppliers) is considered, as is the impact of networks of SMEs linked together in patterns of cooperation and affiliation. Qualitative research methods include policy literature analysis, an interview survey and a discussion of the policy implications for the economic regeneration of Wales. In light of the results of the study, the authors set out the key points of significance for innovation, entrepreneurship, higher education and economic regeneration policy making in Wales.

Entrepreneurship is the center of economic growth process, and it is context-sensitive. We compare Mainland China and Taiwan by investigating the impact of past failure on individual entrepreneurs. Using a large amount of data from GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor), a logistic regression approach was adopted and most of the major variables in models are correlated positively. We demonstrate that past failure does affect entrepreneurs’ perceived capability and next enterprising activity positively in the two regions. Unlike the moderating role of culture, entrepreneurial motivation exerts a quite different impact on the relationship between past failure and entrepreneurs’ future intention in the two regions. Our results provide not only theoretical implications for context-related entrepreneurial motivation, but practical suggestions for entrepreneurs and policy makers.


This study aims to identify the impacts of entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial implementation on entrepreneurial intention among undergraduate students from one of public university in the Northern Region of Malaysia. The theoretical framework for this study is developed based on the literature review. In this study, 488 usable respondents are obtained by using a survey method. Based on the results, it is found that entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial implementation have significant impact towards students’ entrepreneurial intention. The findings presented that students in this institution have moderately high levels of entrepreneurial education (mean=3.70), entrepreneurial implementation (mean=3.12) and entrepreneurial intention (mean=3.64). Results also presented that entrepreneurial education is significantly related to entrepreneurial intention (β=.55, p=.00). Other factor which is entrepreneurial implementation also significantly related to entrepreneurial intention (β=.52, p=.00). These study findings will be fruitful for Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) including the policy makers and academicians to identify the factors which can create the impact on the university students to be involved into entrepreneurship. Next, the results of this study will provide a guide for the university managements on the formulation and implementation of policies. This knowledge on entrepreneurial education and implementation may help the country to eventually reduce the Malaysian unemployment rate. Last but not least, several directions for the future study have been suggested.

This study investigates the relationship between geographical indications (GIs) and sustainable rural development in Vietnam, and analyzes the case study of the Cao Phong orange. Qualitative data were collected from interviews with Vietnamese policy-makers and orange growers to investigate the role of the government of Vietnam in designing and implementing GIs, as well as the involvement of local producers taking advantage of GIs, in order to identify how and to what extent GI protection affects sustainable rural development. The results show that GIs have positively contributed to sustainable rural development in Vietnam; however, some problems remain. This study concludes with policy implications for promoting GIs and sustainable rural development in Vietnam.

The objective of this study was to measure the level of cruise tourists' satisfaction as well as the relationship between satisfaction, recommendation, return intention, and expenditure. Also, the impact of factors such as nationality, length of the visit, and age on the level of expenditure was measured. An empirical approach for data collection was followed and a total of 152 questionnaires were collected from cruise tourists visiting the capital city of Oman, Muscat, as cruise liners anchor at Sultan Qaboos Port. Results of the regression analysis supported the existence of a causal relationship between satisfaction with destination attributes, overall satisfaction, recommendation, return intention, and expenditure. It was found that the average expenditure varies according to age and length of the visit. Recommendations for policy makers were suggested on how to increase the role of cruise tourism in strengthening the economy.

When studying the impact of online reviews on product sales, previous scholars have usually assumed that every review for a product has the same probability of being viewed by consumers. However, decision-making and information processing theories underline that the accessibility of information plays a role in consumer decision-making. We incorporate the notion of review visibility to study the relationship between online reviews and product sales, which is proxied by sales rank information, studying three different cases: (1) when every online review is assumed to have the same probability of being viewed; (2) when we assume that consumers sort online reviews by the most helpful mechanism; and (3) when we assume that consumers sort online reviews by the most recent mechanism. Review non-textual and textual variables are analyzed. The empirical analysis is conducted using a panel of 119 cosmetic products over a period of nine weeks. Using the system generalized method of moments (system GMM) method for dynamic models of panel data, our findings reveal that review variables influence product sales, but the magnitude, and even the direction of the effect, vary amongst visibility cases. Overall, the characteristics of the most helpful reviews have a higher impact on sales.

Perceptions and institutional frameworks can be barriers or facilitators to the development of female entrepreneurship policies. Institutions rely on factual data on the gender gap to evaluate their policies. However, the literature shows that the research and institutions should also analyze the impact of social beliefs on the success of these policies and initiatives. This study focuses on the impact of these perceptions in promoting female entrepreneurship. Data were collected from 287 responses to a questionnaire from Spanish women and men and were analyzed using multivariate regression analysis. The results show that the perception of lack of equality increases the gender gap even if there are specific and effective policies in a society that attempt to eliminate the gender gap in terms of the role of women in the home or positions of power. The main result is that these perceptions ultimately affect women’s entrepreneurial intentions. The results have policy implications for companies and public institutions willing to change the gender narrative about entrepreneurship and design policies and initiatives that help women overcome cultural barriers and effectively promote female entrepreneurship.
