The rheological properties, processes of structure and phase formation of the Al2O3–ZrO2 system compositions obtained by the sol-gel method have been investigated. The temperature range of crystallization of the compositions is 900–1100 °C. With an increase in the concentration of zirconium dioxide in the system, the temperature of the transition from the tetragonal to the monoclinic phase decreases. The effect of the ratio of the components in the initial solutions and the temperature regime of heat treatment of gels on the physicochemical properties of nanopowders and sintered materials has been studied. Ceramic materials of eutectic composition give the highest density and lower values of porosity and water absorption.

Abstract In place of brittle ceramics used so far have appeared up-to-date so-called tough ceramic materials resisting better against mechanical effects [1]. Such material is the zirconium-dioxide, too. The important advantage of hard-turning is the applicability of universal tool. Various outlines can be formed by a tool given. Machining ceramics in case of using traditional machining (turning, milling, drilling) requires special technological conditions (tools, machine-tools, technological parameters, etc.) [2] which are developing presently. We would like extending our research work in this course, too.

Currently, ceramics based on solid solutions of zirconium dioxide tetragonal structure are common biomedical materials. In commercially common ceramics of orthopedic dentistry based on zirconium dioxide, the stabilization of the tetragonal shape is achieved by the introduction of yttrium or cerium cations. As a result of this scientific work, a ceramic material based on nanopowders of a system of zirconium dioxide and ytterbium oxide with high strength parameters has been developed. The results of the conducted research allow us to recommend the new Yb–TZP ceramics as an alternative to Y–TZP ceramic materials for restorations in orthopedic dentistry.

A review of zirconium dioxide or zirconia ZrO2 is presented. The finding of zirconium compounds in nature, the physical and chemical properties of ZrO2 are given, the polymorphism of zirconium oxide, and the phase diagrams of systems with its participation are considered. The areas of application of zirconia compounds are highlighted: automotive industry, electronics industry, energy and industrial ecology, equipment manufacturing and mechanical engineering the production of zirconium-based refractories, ceramics, enamels, glass, superhard materials, applications in medicine, nuclear energetics, and many others areas of human activity. Cubic modification of zirconium dioxide, stabilized by oxides of rare earth elements,is a jewelry stone (fianite). Partially stabilized zirconium dioxide is a versatile structural material with very high resistance to crack propagation. Solid solutions of REE oxides, especially scandium, have a high oxygen conductivity, which is used in sensors for measuring the partial pressure of oxygen and in fuel cells. Attention is paid to heat-resistant oxide ceramic materials with low thermal conductivity used in the quality of heat-resistant coatings. Considerable attention was paid to the second most important mineral of zirconia - baddeleyite (ZrO2). Baddeleyite is widely used in the production of refractory materials. It is mined for the production of metallic zirconium. The achievements of Soviet and Russian scientists in thedevelopment of technologies for the production of fianite and artificial baddeleyite are presented.

Ceramic materials based on zirconia (ZrO2) are high-tech raw materials for structural products used in various fields of technology. ZrO2 has a wide range of application due to its unique strength characteristics, chemical resistance and fire resistance. However, the disadvantage of zirconium ceramics is low resistance to thermal shock, which limits its use in products functioning in conditions of frequent temperature changes. In this paper, we consider the possibility of increasing the resistance to thermal shock of ceramics based on zirconium dioxide, due to the introduction of an aluminum-magnesium spinel additive (MgAl2O4).

Рresents a review of the application of the active brazing method for joining fibrous compo-site materials based on titanium alloy with ceramics based on aluminum oxide and zirconium dioxide. The basic problem arising from the combination of metals and ceramics, examples of solving problems compounds represented by the relationship of the microstructure of the connection zone with mechanical properties and shows the effect of additives Ti, B and W on microstructure and mechanical properties. Conclusions are made about the possibility of obtaining high-quality and durable compounds and factors affecting them.
