This study surveyed a sample of nationally certified executive search recruiters, with the use of the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI). Chi-square test analyses revealed that this sample differed significantly from adult norms on 4 of the 5 NEO-FFI scales. These scales were Neuroticism, Extraversion. Openness. and Conscientiousness. Implications of these findings for employment counselor practice are discussed.

In this study, the method used is descriptive with a purposive sampling technique of 34 Esports gamers in the city of Bandung. The purpose of this study was to determine the personality profile of Esports gamers in the city of Bandng. Researchers used the IPIP BFM-25 standard measuring instrument made by Akhtar & Azwar, (2018). The results of this study show the dimensions of Conscientiousness (82.4%), Agreeableness (88.2%), and Intellect (91.2%) became dominant in the score with a high category, and Emotional Stability (64.7%) become the dominant dimension in the low score category.

People differ in their sensitivity to similar experiences with some being generally more and some less sensitive. Several theories have been developed over the years to describe such differences in Environmental Sensitivity and a growing number of studies provide empirical evidence that some people are indeed more affected than others by environmental influences. Sensitivity has been associated with temperament traits in children as well as a number of biological factors. In this paper, we provide new experimental evidence that self-reported sensitivity predicts differences in the response to negative as well as positive experiences, after introducing a short sensitivity questionnaire for adults, building on the original Highly Sensitive Person scale (Aron & Aron, 1997), and investigating its psychometric properties as well as associations with the Big Five personality traits. Results across the five individual studies (total N = 1,140) suggest that individual differences in sensitivity to the environment can be assessed with the newly developed measure (HSP-12), validated by two experimental studies according to which the scale predicts heightened reactivity to both negative and positive experiences. Furthermore, sensitivity reflects a continuous spectrum from low to high along which people fall into three distinct sensitivity groups (low, medium, and high). Finally, sensitivity was found to fit a specific personality profile characterised by both high Neuroticism and high Openness to Experiences. We conclude that adults differ substantially in their sensitivity to environmental influences and that such differences can be measured reliably with a short and easily applicable sensitivity questionnaire.

Personality factors, such as the Dark Tetrad personality factors (Machiavellianism, narcissism and sadism) relate to greater online trolling. Other personality factors, such as the Big Five Personality factors, honesty–humility and negative social potency, may also play a role in cyberbullying, which is an aggressive behavior similar to trolling. The purpose of this study was to predict Facebook trolling behavior based on personality factors. A total of 139 participants completed a survey on their online behavior and personality factors. Online trolling behavior positively correlated with sadism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism, and negatively correlated with agreeableness, conscientiousness and honesty–humility. A hierarchical linear regression showed that sadism, Machiavellianism and negative social potency were the only unique predictors of online trolling behavior. Trolling was unrelated to the frequency of Facebook use and the frequency of commenting. Enjoyment of trolling fully mediated the relationship between Machiavellianism and the trolling behavior. The results thus suggested that Facebook trolling behaviors may be motivated by enjoying the manipulation of others.

The aim of the study is to describe personality profiles and determinants of success in sports in relation to the Big Five Personality Model. In order to achieve this aim, personality profiles of players from various sports disciplines was set against the personality profile of champions—players who are considerably successful in sports competitions. Subsequently, an attempt was made to determine which personality traits significantly determine belonging to the group of champions—and therefore determine success in sport. The participants were men aged between 20 and 29 from the Polish population of sportsmen. A total of 1260 athletes were tested, out of whom 118 were qualified to the champions sample—those athletes had significant sports achievements. The research used the NEO-FFI Personality Questionnaire. Basic descriptive statistics, a series of Student’s t-tests for independent samples using the bootstrapping method, as well as a logistic regression model were performed. In relation to other athletes, champions were characterized by a lower level of neuroticism and a higher level of extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. An important personality determinant was neuroticism: the lower the level of neuroticism, the greater the probability of an athlete being classified as a champion. There are differences between champions and other athletes in all personality dimensions in terms of the Big Five. Based on the result of the research, it can be stated that personality differences should be seen as a consequence of athletes’ success, rather than as a reason for athletes’ success, based on their age between 20 and 29.

AbstractBackgroundPersonality dysfunction has been postulated as the most clinically salient problem of persons suffering from medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) but empirical studies are scarce. This study aims to compare the personality profile of older patients suffering from MUS with two comparison groups and a control group.MethodsNinety-six older patients with MUS were compared with 153 frequent attenders in primary care suffering from medically explained symptoms (MES), 255 patients with a past-month depressive disorder (DSM-IV-TR), and a control group of 125 older persons. The Big Five personality domains (NEO-Five-Factor Inventory) were compared between groups by multiple ANCOVAs adjusted for age, sex, education, partner status and cognitive functioning. Linear regression analyses were applied to examine the association between health anxiety (Whitley Index) and somatization (Brief Symptom Inventory).ResultsThe four groups differed with respect to neuroticism (P < 0.001), extraversion (P < 0.001), and agreeableness (P = 0.045). Post hoc analyses, showed that MUS patients compared to controls scored higher on neuroticism and agreeableness, and compared to depressed patients lower on neuroticism and higher on extraversion as well agreeableness. Interestingly, MUS and MES patients had a similar personality profile. Health anxiety and somatization were associated with a higher level of neuroticism and a lower level of extraversion and conscientiousness, irrespective whether the physical symptom was explained or not.ConclusionsOlder patients with MUS have a specific personality profile, comparable to MES patients. Health anxiety and somatization may be better indicators of psychopathology than whether a physical symptom is medically explained or not.
