This chapter presents a new and different type of multimedia learning tool, the so-called “research module.” This unique, learner-centered, multimedia tool aims to create a learning environment wherein high school teachers and their students engage in higher-order, inquiry-based activities that allow them to “do” actual scientific research in the classroom. This chapter also describes the design and implementation of these computer-based resources, as well as assessment data on student learning, and perceptions of both textbooks and computer-based learning tools. It also reveals high school teachers’ attitudes toward the use of both computer-based resources and textbooks.

Abstract   Children are more interested in playing mobile games than reading books. Therefore mobile devices can be utilized in the learning process and learning tools in the interactive learning applications based on Android mobile devices. Computer-based learning or often called Computer Based Instruction, provides a clearer and more understandable understanding of the material with a variety of appropriate simulations. In this study, an interactive learning application was designed by applying the Computer Based Instruction method, also this application can be used to learn the types of animals based on the basics of grouping with a combination of graphics, text, sound, video and animation. This interactive learning app also provides some interactive games. This interactive Android-based learning applications could help children in learning basic animals grouping materials.   Keywords: Computer Based Instruction, Interactive Learning, Basic Animal Grouping, Adobe Flash CS6, Android. Kata kunci: Computer Based Instruction, Pembelajaran Interaktif, Dasar Pengelompokan Hewan, Adobe Flash CS6, Android.

E-learning includes several types of media that deliver text, audio, images, animation, and streaming video, and includes technology applications and processes such as audio or video tape, satellite TV, CD-ROM, and computer-based learning, as well as local intranet/extranet and web-based learning. E learning is a learner-friendly mode of learning, offering alternative, self-paced and personalised ways of studying. The present chapter explains the synchronous and asynchronous mode of e learning with its features. It also defines and summarises the impact of open source software on teaching and learning process. The numerous open source e learning tools are discussed with examples such as Open source LMS, Open source authoring tools, Open source audio editing software, Open source social bookmarking tools, Open source CMS etc. It also throws light on free e learning tools useful in e learning such as Slideshare, Youtube, Wikis, RSS, Wordpress etc. The search engines especially for academic purpose and for Open CourseWear are also discussed in the chapter. It identifies open courseware around the world spanning various subjects. The chapter concludes with e learning initiatives in India.

Potential possibilities of teaching methods using computer-based learning tools based on computer modeling technologies, in connection with the emphasis on the technology teacher thinking development, which is three-component in its structure, subject to designing on the basis of pedagogical theory of teaching based on the interconnection and interaction of conceptual, figurative and active components of thinking can provide a higher level of implementation of such traditional requirements as science, visibility, activity and consciousness of learning as well as the unity of educational developmental and educational training functions.
