This article aims at analyzing community consumption as a practice model which will create a new model in the understanding of the consumption to the consumptive pattern. In its development, community consumption pattern brings about a shift because of technology and modern facility availability. An approach used to write this report is library research, while the analysis technique applied is a content analysis aiming at getting a valid inference and can be reobserved based on is context. The presence of technology as a representation of facility in the fulfillment of needs are able to encourage the creation of social change, like the spreading of consumerist culture, the change of fashion and lifestyle mode where this condition is institutionalized in a community culture structure so that consuming goods do not only depend on the needs logic but also cover to someone’s emotional substance. That situation systematically shifts traditional values and directs to the global behavior. Consumption towards the construction of consumptive society becomes a conceptual and historical illustration to understand the consumption shifting to the consumptive practice.

In the immediate post-25 April scenario, the Portuguese media adopted revolutionary language as the foundation of a journalism oriented towards political-ideological combat and social criticism. This hegemonic discourse derived from a reality characterized by daily changes and conflicts, became itself an instrument of political and social change. The primary goal of this work is to carry out a discourse and content analysis having as objects of study an informative newspaper and another of a propagandistic nature in the biennium 1974–75, based on a sample of words gathered from headlines within these publications. The studied media are the informative Diário de Notícias and the doctrinal weekly Esquerda Socialista. In the context of the transition to democracy in Portugal, we conclude that informative and doctrinal journalism merged within a single body guided by the commitment of journalists to the revolutionary cause.

Abstract Buddhism is often said to be an environment-friendly religion, but this thesis is rarely investigated. In this paper, we employ a mixed-method approach to examine this thesis in the case of Taiwan. We use data from the Taiwan Social Change Survey (tscs) and apply qualitative content analysis to examine practices among major Taiwanese Buddhist organizations. The findings suggest: (1) Buddhists in Taiwan engage significantly more in environment-friendly behavior than other religious members, and (2) members of different Buddhist organizations display similar levels of engagement in environment-related behavior. However, (3) Buddhist organizations engage very differently in environment-related activities. (4) Buddhist organizations engage more in nonpolitical environmental activities than they do in politically sensitive ones, and (5) among the four major Buddhist organizations, female-led Buddhist organizations show a higher level of environment-related practices than male-led organizations.

The main purpose of this article is to review Barack Obama’s memoir, A Promised Land, from the perspective of community organising, racism and social change, and draw implications for social work education and practice. By using the theme and content analysis method, it selects relevant chunks from the memoir and reflects on it. The analysis and reflection bring out Barack Obama’s knowledge, skills and approaches of community organising and social change. It argues that in addition to his own virtues and character, the basic premises and approaches of Obama’s community organising are similar to the values, knowledge and agenda of professional social work. Further, it suggests drawing lessons from Obama’s community organising experiences and exploring the potential for social work to expand at multiple levels of macro practice.

Social media have established a growing prevalence and influence in social change, in political movements, and as vehicles for messages related to crisis. The movement #deleteuber demonstrated this growing trend. Using quantitative content analysis, 2,000 tweets posted on Twitter were analyzed in the 2 weeks following the incident to measure how media framing may impact organizational identity. Findings reveal that users on Twitter largely framed the crisis as political, opinionated, and episodic in nature. Additionally, users most commonly associated the crisis with the organization as a collective rather than with the CEO as an individual responsible for actions prompting the crisis, thus blurring the demarcation between personal and organizational identity in online spaces.

This chapter aims to review the current debate on and investigate individual behavior and confidence in leaders and organizations. This is done through content analysis on recent studies on leadership, social psychology, and the characteristics of individuals, society, and organizations. This study proposes a model to discuss cognitive, human involvement, personality traits, and social fabrics. The current debate's significant contributions alert organizations and individuals (leaders) about human development and social transmission in social change. Some primary challenges have been discussed, such as employees' perception of the organization, managerial styles, socio-psychological and cognitive development. The chapter argues that the social cognitive theory's lens can enrich individuals, society, and organizations to reach future research suggestions.

Following the 2017 killing of Maxwell Adam Mahama by a lynch mob in Ghana, this article engages with the subject of lynching in Ghana through a content analysis of newsmedia items relating to the practice. While reactions to Mahama’s killing invite optimism that lynching as a form of instant (in)justice is being problematized in Ghana, this study leads to a less optimistic position. State, media and public responses to Mahama’s killing were compared vis-à-vis similar killings of two police officers ‐ Jerry Wornoo and Richard Owusu-Sekyere ‐ in 1998. Drawing on the relevant literature, this study concluded that a number of factors combined to make Mahama, Wornoo and Owusu-Sekyere ‘newsworthy victims’. In contrast, victims in several lynching cases reported by Ghanaian media between 1999 and May 2017 were not deemed newsworthy, thus attracting less attention. Consequently, there have been missed opportunities following the Wornoo and Owusu-Sekyere killings to make critical systemic interventions in Ghana to prevent lynching. Hence, it is argued, the mere sensationalization of Mahama’s lynching may not trigger the requisite systemic social change. Recommendations are made to harness the momentum from Mahama’s killing to address instant (in)justice.

The discussion on sexual violence gained momentum in October 2017 after the Twitter hashtag (#metoo) spread globally highlighting the widespread reality of this problem. While this resulted in extensive media coverage, and naturally informed audiences about societal issues, it can also be problematic regarding the media’s power to reflect and construct reality. Therefore, it is important to research how societal issues like sexual violence are discussed in media settings. The study aimed to investigate how journalists frame sexual violence in the news (RQ1) and whether such practices have changed in the wake of the MeToo movement (RQ2). A quantitative content analysis was conducted for news articles published in four US newspapers, spanning a period of 2 years – from 1 year before to 1 year after the #metoo tweet ( N = 612; Oct. 2016 – Oct. 2018). Results indicate that news coverage on sexual violence shifted from straightforward, single-incident reports to broader discussions. This study contributes to scientific research and journalism practices by providing an overarching view of how sexual violence is framed in the news and the potential impact of social movements on reportage.

On many occasions, politics is intended to achieve lofty objectives of social and cultural change related to the achievement of real equality between women and men, but for this, the institutionalization of equality bodies at different levels of government and instruments is unavoidable. Those enable the actions necessary for the implementation of these policies. In this article, a content analysis of the equality plans developed in the municipalities of the Murcia Region is carried out, with the aim of knowing the impact that equality legislation has on the development of equality plans at the municipal level, as well as whether they have served as an instrument of social change policies.
