This paper examined the role of supervisor gossip on subordinate job performance. The paper hypothesized that supervisor’s negative and positive gossip influence employee job engagement which in subsequently affects employee job performance. Dyadic research design was used to collect data from a sample of 228 employees and supervisors from Kwa Zulu Natal Government Municipality, South Africa. The employees completed the questionnaire items on supervisor gossip and job engagement, while their supervisors completed the questionnaire items on employee job performance. Data collection was done in three waves. The study established that positive superior gossip positively and significantly influenced employee job engagement, which positively improved employee job performance; while negative superior gossip had a positive, but insignificant effect on employee job engagement. The study was limited by the multicultural nature of the municipality as well as the causality issues and common method biases associated with research design. Having managed to utilize Social Exchange Theory (SET) in disentangling the supervisor-subordinate reciprocal communication web, the study proposes that supervisors should inculcate effective strategies of utilizing both positive and negative gossip in the workplace so as to increase positive employee outcomes. Negative gossip will cause tension, stress and mistrust among employees, while positive gossip will lead to creation of workplace antagonism and competition. This study attempted to assess the implication of supervisor gossip on employee job engagement and performance in the public service sector, whose employees are characterized with high job security as compared to their peers in the private sector.

With the growth of product search engines such as pricegrabber.com, web vendors have many more casual visitors. This research examines how web vendors may foster “swift trust” as a means to convert casual visitors to paying customers. We examine whether perceptions of website’s appearance features (normality, social presence and third-party links) and functionality features (security, privacy, effort expectancy and performance expectancy) positively relate to swift trust in a web vendor. Using a quasi-experimental research design, we empirically test the proposed relationships. Based on an analysis of 224 respondents, we found appearance and functionality features explained 61% of the variance in swift trust. The paper concludes with a discussion of findings and implications.

Purpose – The linkage between strategy and performance is central to strategic management. Empirical studies have nevertheless produced mixed results on the nature of this relationship, and in recent decades, very little advancement has been made in research aimed at elucidating this relationship. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to identify the approaches to the strategy-performance linkage in previous studies and defines five principles that should characterize future research on this relationship. The paper develops a novel research design that follows these principles and tests the usefulness of this research design in practice. Design/methodology/approach – This paper is exploratory in nature and its empirical methods include content analysis, multidimensional scaling, and cluster analysis. The primary difference between this paper and studies in the mainstream literature on the linkage between strategy and performance relates to the application of an endogenous strategy typology instead of predefined strategy categories. Findings – The analysis shows that the adopted research design based on five principles is applicable to research on the linkage between strategy and performance and that such a research design produces meaningful results. The results support the findings of earlier studies regarding the potential of “hybrid” strategies for achieving superior firm performance. Research limitations/implications – This paper challenges the dominance of generic strategies in research on the strategy-performance linkage and provides statistical data that lay the foundation for more detailed investigation on this relationship. The paper argues for a contextually bound view of strategic management. Originality/value – This paper invigorates the discussion on the linkage between strategy and performance, which has long been diminishing as a research topic in the literature because of contradictory results and the lack of fresh research opportunities. This paper further introduces a methodology that has been underutilized in the study of strategic management.

Abstract Li2(OH)0.9F0.1Cl, Li2(OH)0.9Br0.1Cl, and Li2OHCl0.8Br0.2 solid electrolytes were synthesized and compared with Li2OHCl to analyze the exact improvement mechanism for Li+ conductivity and electrochemical stability of Li2OHX-type solid electrolyte. The substituted materials exhibit improved electrochemical stability and Li+ conductivity Li2OHCl. Among these materials, Li(OH)0.9F0.1Cl has improved Li+ conductivity due to a reduction of the OH– concentration and the conductivity of Li2OHCl0.8Br0.2 was also increased compared with Li2OHCl due to the large interstitial site. In the case of Li2(OH)0.9Br0.1Cl, it had the highest Li+ conductivity and good Li+ migration by both effects because of a larger interstitial site and low OH− concentration. Furthermore, the electrochemical stability of four materials was compared due to the different structural stabilities and strengths of binary chemical bonds such as Li–X, H–X, and O–X. Comparing the Li+ conductivity of Li2(OH)0.9F0.1Cl and Li2OHCl0.8Br0.2, the Li+ conductivity is influenced by the OH− concentration unlike the other mechanisms.

Sales promotion and publicity are key promotional marketing tools which have assisted organizations to wax stronger in a global competitive environment. This study investigates the significance of publicity and sales promotion in Nigeria. The research design adopted for this study is survey research design while the sampling technique adopted is simple random sampling technique The Chi-square method is used to test the hypothesis based on the responses from the five-point Likert rating scale of the structured questionnaire. The findings reveal that publicity and sales promotion are veritable tools for achieving organizational marketing goals in a competitive marketing environment. It is recommended that publicity and sales promotion should be well utilized to stimulate customers demand, boost organizational reputation without detriment to product quality and performance. The study aims to determine the program management and performance of (SUCs) in teacher education among state universities and colleges CALABARZON. The research design used in this study was the descriptive method of research. Purposive sampling was used in this study to identify the educators in the Teacher Education of SUCs in CALABARZON as respondents. The statistical treatment of data was used to compute then analyze then interpret the data given by the respondents. This study hypothesized that there is no significant relationship between the between the program management in instruction, research, and extension on the performance of teacher education among state universities and colleges in CALABARZON are partially accepted.
