Conceptual model of the copper–porphyry ore formation (Sorskoe copper–molybdenum ore deposit case study)

Deepwater lobes constitute a significant volume of submarine fans and are primarily believed to exhibit a simple sheet geometry. However, recent studies interpret the geometries of these deep-marine lobes as distinct with respect to the complexity of the facies and their distribution. Hence, a conceptual model of deep-marine sediments is essential to discuss the deep-marine sediments associated with the fan and lobe architecture. The present study highlights the facies heterogeneity and distribution of various lobe elements at a multiscale level by considering a case study of the West Crocker Formation of Sabah in northwest Borneo. The formation was logged on a bed-to-bed scale from recently well-exposed sections, with a total vertical thickness of more than 300 m. The lithological characteristics, bed geometry, sedimentary textures and structures of individual beds were used to categorize the rock units into nine sedimentary lithofacies: five sandstone lithofacies (S1–S5), one hybrid bed facies (H), two siltstone facies (Si1 and Si2) and one shale or mudstone facies (M). These facies were grouped into four facies associations (FA1–FA4), which were interpreted as lobe axis (FA1), lobe off-axis (FA2), lobe fringe (FA3) and distal fringe to interlobe (FA4) facies associations. This study is applicable for the distribution of lobes and their subseismic, multiscale complexities to characterize the potential of hydrocarbon intervals in deep-marine sand-shale system around the globe.

The increased authority delegated to independent agencies raises questions about the conditions of politically accountable governance, and specifically parliament’s role as a representative institution. Focusing on committee hearings as an accountability mechanism, we ask: How can a parliament employ hearings to ensure that the ends pursued by agencies have a democratic foundation? We propose a model of “mutual attunement” where accountability relations presuppose a process of working-out shared understandings of the ends, means and circumstances of policy needs. We test our argument through a case study assessing the interaction between the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic & Monetary Affairs and the European Securities and Markets Authority. Theoretically, we contribute to discussions on agency accountability and European governance, while providing a novel conceptual model and the first analysis of its kind.

This case study reports on the findings from one of nine tertiary institutions that took part in a project funded by the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative (TLRI) in New Zealand. The research question explored how institutional and non institutional learning environments influence student engagement with learning in a higher education, university setting. Data was collected initially by means of a questionnaire; subsequently more in-depth data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with students randomly selected from those who indicated, on the questionnaire, that they were willing to be interviewed. Respondents were enrolled for the first time in this institution, but not necessarily for the first time in a tertiary education programme. A conceptual model with four strands: motivation and agency; transactional engagement; institutional support and active citizenship was used to organise the data. Findings were analysed against a synthesis of current literature and suggest that factors identified in the first three strands of the conceptual model played a significant role in student engagement with learning; active citizenship, however, did not feature highly in student responses and is an aspect of engagement that could benefit from further research.

We propose in this paper a conceptual model of how equivalence may be achieved in subtitling to allow the target language viewers the opportunity to enjoy a comparable cinematic experience as that enjoyed by the source language viewers. We follow Brock’s (2015) adaptation of Goffman’s (1981) participation framework in communication and take Nida’s (1964) Dynamic Equivalence as the point of departure to propose Cinematic Equivalence as the conceptual model as well as the aim of film subtitling. This model is illustrated by examining the English subtitles of a Chinese biographical film called Forever Enthralled (?????). Based on our conceptual model, we make suggestions for subtitling training and practice.

This study examines the compositions of the ore and the ore formation solutions, conditions of formation, and sources of Be mineralization using the Aunikskoye F-Be deposit, which is an integral part of the Western Transbaikal beryllium-bearing provinces, as a representative example. Further, the main factors responsible for the formation of beryllium mineralization were evaluated. The ore deposits are presented by the feldsparic–fluorspar–phenacite–bertrandite metasomatites formed in the carboniferous limestones during their metasomatic alternation with hydrothermal solutions by introducing F, Be, and other associated elements. The formation of early phenacite–fluorspar association occurred in high-fluorite СО2-containing solutions of elevated alkalinity with a salinity of ~10.5%–12% wt eq. NaCl in a temperature range of ~ 370–260 °С at pressures ranging from 1873 to 1248 bar. More recent fluorite and bertrandite deposits were formed by solutions with a salinity of 6.4%–7.7% wt eq. NaCl in a temperature range of ~156 °C–110 °C and a pressure range of 639–427 bar. The examination of the isotopic signature of the ore association minerals confirmed the apocarbonate nature of the main ore deposit and allowed the determination of the magmatogene nature of the ore-forming paleothermal springs, which are the source of subalkaline leucogranites. The primary factors that influenced the formation of the F-Be ore included the reduction of the F activity in solutions because of the binding of Ca and F in fluorite as well as because of the decrease in temperature during the ore deposition process. The elevated alkalinity of the ore-formation solutions resulted in the low solubility of the Be complexes, which caused a relatively low Be content in the ore and a relatively small amount of mineralization in the deposit.
