The present work aims at a better understanding of the influences of the intercalated mono-, di- and triethanolamines on the characteristics and CO2 adsorption ability of sodium form of bentonite (Na-bentonite). The results revealed that the molar mass of intercalated amines significantly influenced the structural and surface properties as well as the CO2 adsorption capacity of Na-bentonite. In this respect, a stepwise increase in the d-spacing of Na-bentonite with the molar mass of amine was recorded by XRD technique. However, an inverse effect of the molar mass of amine on the surface area was confirmed by BET method. CO2 adsorption experiments on amine-bentonite hybrid adsorbents showed that the CO2 adsorption capacity inversly related to the molar mass of amine at 25 ͦC and 101 kPa. Accordingly, Na-bentonite modified by monoethanolammonium cations adsorbed as high as 0.475 mmol CO2/g compared to 0.148 and 0.087 mmol CO2/g for that one treated with di- and triethanolammonium cations, respectively.

AbstractFenton-like system formed in a natural soil environment deemed to be significant in the aging process of biochar. Aged biochars have distinct physico-chemical and surface properties compared to non-aged biochar. The aged biochar proved to be useful soil amendment due to its improved elements contents and surface properties. The biochar aging process resulted in increased surface area and pore volume, as well as carbon and oxygen-containing functional groups (such as C=O, –COOH, O–C=O etc.) on its surface, which were also associated with the adsorption behavior of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP). The biochar aging increased the adsorption capacity of 2,4,6-TCP, which was maximum at pH 3.0. The 2,4,6-TCP adsorption capacity of aged-bush biochar (ABB) and aged-peanut shell biochar (APB) was increased by 1.0–11.0% and 7.4–38.8%, respectively compared with bush biochar (BB) and peanut shell biochar (PB) at the same initial concentration of 2,4,6-TCP. All biochars had similar 2,4,6-TCP desorption rates ranging from 33.2 to 73.3% at different sorption temperatures and times. The desorbed components were mainly 2,4,6-TCP and other degraded components, which were low in concentration with small molecule substance. The results indicated that the aged-biochar could be effective for the long-term remediation of naturally organic polluted soils.

The current paper experimentally investigated the effect of different kinds re-dispersible polymer powers (RPP) on cement-based self-leveling mortars. The construction operation of mortar and its mechanical property was tested in accordance with the standard JC/T 981-2005. Besides, the micro-structure surface of self-leveling mortar was characterized by means of SEM to reflect the microscopic mechanism of the performance. The results showed the dispersible polymer powders could significantly improve performance of fluidity, adhesion property and abrasion resistance on cement-based self-leveling mortar; Meanwhile, there is no bad impact on its compressive strength and flexural strength. This study has guiding significance for the construction and application of cement based self-leveling mortar.

The water contamination is an important crisis which is to be addressed in the recent time. The pollutants present in wastewater are treated by adsorption using activated carbon, which is considered as one of the effective method. The adsorbent has to be modified to improve the adsorption capacity and the surface properties. Various methods such as physical, chemical treatment, impregnation and functionalization techniques are available. Impregnation is one of the effective method carried out for surface modification and to increase the adsorption capacity. Therefore, current study investigates the different impregnation methods used for the surface modification of the adsorbent. It also reviews the various precursors used for adsorbent preparation, the impregnating agent, the operating conditions and the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent.
