Liberica coffee is a minor species that is planted all around the world. Therefore, there is little study conducted on this coffee species as only one percent is cultivated all around the world. In Malaysia, there is still no research focusing on coffee pulp from Sarawak liberica sp. and thus leading to this study. The wastes and by-product such as coffee pulps will become the residues as they were not needed in processing the coffee. This will create environmental pollution. Thus, this research aimed to evaluate the feasibility study on the physicochemical properties of coffee pulp from Sarawak liberica sp. including determination by colorimetric assays for phenolic and flavonoid content, antioxidant activity, and reducing sugar analysis. The antibacterial activities of coffee pulp were evaluated against Gram-positive, Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative Salmonella typhimurium using a disc diffusion method. As a result, Sarawak liberica sp. coffee pulp extract contained total phenolic content of 24.24 mg GAE/g of coffee pulp, a total flavonoid content of 39.39 mg QE/g of coffee pulp, DPPH scavenging activity of 92.24 ± 0.03%, reducing sugar analysis of 13.13 mg GE/g of coffee pulp, and there was no significant effect of antibacterial activities. Therefore, the physicochemical study determination in this study would add values toward Sarawak liberica sp. coffee pulp by-product and thus reducing the disposal of Liberica coffee wastes in the future.

This study investigated the nutrient quality and the glycemic index of some varieties of Africa (NERICA) rice. The nutrients were analyzed using the official methods of analysis (AOAC), minerals using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) after wet digestion, vitamins using a High performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), while in-vitro starch hydrolysis was performed using multi-enzyme digestion method. The results were compared with that of Aroso (imported rice). The content of moisture, ash, fiber, fat, protein and carbohydrate ranged from 8.2 to 9.8, 0.02 to 0.09, 0.3 to 0.5, 2.4 to 5.7, 5.9 to 13.0, and 74.4 to 82.8%, respectively. Iron varied from 30 to 69.3 mg / kg, zinc, (2.4 to 10.4) copper, (0.5 to 4.6) calcium (43.4 to 146) and magnesium from 85.5 to 368 mg / kg. Ascorbic acid ranged from (8.1 to 36.2 mg / kg, pyridoxine (372 to 789 mg / kg), thiamine (116 to 383 mg / kg) and folate from 66.6 to 142 mg / kg. Reducing sugar, total sugar and starch (mg / g) ranged from 60 to 117 and 96 to 157, and 171 to 188 mg / g, respectively, while amylose ranged between 19 and 30%. There were negative correlation between glycemic index and fibre (r = -0.814); and between hydrolysis index and fibre (r = -0.731). The study showed that NERICA rice contain essential nutrients but it has high glycemic index could be a risk factor for disease like Diabetes mellitus

SauvignonBlanc wine grape was characterized for their various morphological, physiological and biochemical parameters grafted on different rootstocks. Significant differences were recorded for all the parameters studied. The studies on vegetative parameters revealed that the rootstock influences the vegetative growth thereby increasing the photosynthetic activities of a vine. The highest photosynthesis rate was recorded in 140-Ru grafted vine followed by Fercal whereas the lowest in Salt Creek rootstock grafted vines. The rootstock influenced the changes in biochemical constituents in the grafted vine thereby helping the plant to store enough food material. Significant differences were recorded for total carbohydrates, proteins, total phenols and reducing sugar. The vines grafted on1103-Pshowed highest carbohydrates and starch followed by 140-Ru,while the least amount of carbohydrates were recorded in 110-R and Salt Creek grafted vines respectively.Among the different rootstock graft combinations, Fercal showed highest amount of reducing sugar, proteins and phenols, followed by 1103-P and SO4, however, the lowest amount of reducing sugar, proteins and phenols were recorded with 110-R grafted vines. The vines grafted on different rootstocks showed changes in nutrient uptake. Considering this, the physico-biochemical characterization of grafted vine may help to identify particularrootstocks combination that could influence a desired trait in commercial wine grape varieties after grafting.

Medicinal plants plays a significant role in the pharmaceutical industry. In present scenario, the need is to explore, identify and utilize this new medicinal plant on one hand and, on the other, to help conserve the existing but threatened species of rare medicinal plant. This present research work was carry out for the first time in South India to analyse and estimate the biochemical profiles of various extracts of fresh parts of Gnaphalium polycaulon pers., plant. The biochemical composition such as total carbohydrates, total proteins, total lipids, total phenols, cholesterol, total chlorophylls and reducing sugar, sterols were estimated using the standard procedure in fresh plant material. The biochemical analysis of Gnaphalium polycaulon plant showed the presence of various phytochemicals. The results of the present study supplement the usage of the studied plant which possesses several bioactive compounds and used as food and also as medicine. The results of present studies demonstrated that Gnaphalium polycaulon plant could be a sourceof valuable information and a guideline for the scientists, researchers in India and also all over the world
