The complex [Ni(pn)3][Fe(CN)5NO]·H2O (1) was synthesised by the reaction of [Ni(pn)3]Cl2 (pn = racemic propane-1,2-diamine) with Na2[Fe(CN)5NO]·2H2O in aqueous solution and has been charaterised by IR and Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic studies. Single crystal structure analysis revealed octahedrally coordinate cations [Ni(pn)3]2+ and anions [Fe(CN)5NO]2−.

A simple and practical method for the synthesis on a large scale of altretamine (1), a wellknown antitumor drug, has been successfully developed. The synthesis method involves the conversion of cyanuric chloride (2) into altretamine (1) by dimethylamination of 2 with an aqueous solution of 40% dimethylamine and potassium hydroxide in 1, -dioxan 4in one step to give altretamine (1) in high yield.

AbstractSynthetic antiferromagnetic (SAF) particles with perpendicular anisotropy display a number of desirable characteristics for applications in biological and other fluid environments. We present an efficient and effective method for the patterning of ultrathin Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yoshida coupled, perpendicularly magnetised SAFs using a combination of nanosphere lithography and ion milling. A Ge sacrificial layer is utilised, which provides a clean and simple lift-off process, as well as maintaining the key magnetic properties that are beneficial to target applications. We demonstrate that the method is capable of producing a particularly high yield of well-defined, thin film based nanoparticles.

We report on the synthesis and physical properties of cm-sized CoGeO3 single crystals grown in a high pressure mirror furnace at pressures of 80 bar. Direction dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements on our single crystals reveal highly anisotropic magnetic properties that we attribute to the impact of strong single ion anisotropy appearing in this system with TN∼33.5 K. Furthermore, we observe effective magnetic moments that are exceeding the spin only values of the Co ions, which reveals the presence of sizable orbital moments in CoGeO3.

In this study, magnetic steel slag biochar (MSSB) was synthesized from low-cost steel slag waste to investigate the effectiveness of steel slag biochar composite for NH4-N removal and magnetic properties in aqueous solution. The maximum adsorption capacity of NH4-N by MSSB was 4.366 mg/g according to the Langmuir model. The magnetic properties of MSSB indicated paramagnetic behavior and a saturation magnetic moment of 2.30 emu/g at 2 Tesla. The NH4-N adsorption process was well characterized by the pseudo-second order kinetic model and Temkin isotherm model. This study demonstrated the potential of magnetic biochar synthesized from steel slag waste for NH4-N removal in aqueous solution.

Oxidation of phenyl PtII complexes K[(dpms)PtIIPh2], 1, (dpms)PtIIPh(MeOH), 2, (dpms)PtIIPh(OH2), 3, and methyl PtII complex (dpms)PtIIMe(NH2Ph), 6, with O2 in aqueous or methanol solutions under ambient conditions leads to corresponding (dpms)PtIVR(X)OH complexes (R = X = Ph, 7; R = Ph, X = OH, 8; R = Ph, X = OMe, 9; R = Me, X = NHPh; 11; dpms = di(2-pyridyl)methanesulfonate). Complexes 7–9 could be isolated in high yield. Complex 11 as well as its phenyl analogue (dpms)PtIVPh(NHPh)OH, 10 can be prepared in high yield by oxidation of corresponding (dpms)PtIIR(NH2Ph) with H2O2 in methanol. Phenyl PtII complexes (dpms)PtIIPh(HX) derived from HX = aniline and DMSO, 4 and 5, respectively, are inert toward O2. The rate of oxidation of 1–5 with O2 decreases in the order 1 > 3 ~ 2 » 4, and 5 is unreactive. Methyl analogues are significantly more reactive compared with their phenyl counterparts. Proposed mechanism of oxidation with O2 includes formation of anionic species (dpms)PtIIR(X)– responsible for reaction with dioxygen. Attempts at C–O and C–N reductive elimination from phenyl PtIV complexes 7–10 do not lead to phenyl derivatives PhX at 80–100 °C, consistent with the results of the DFT estimates of corresponding activation barriers, ΔG0 exceeding 28 kcal/mol.Key words: platinum phenyl complexes, oxidation, dioxygen, aqueous solution, mechanism.
