A metal-lock staple of Fe-Mn-Si shape memory alloy is firstly used in the repair of large cast iron structure. The paper studied the influence of pre-strain, recovery temperature, thermo-mechanical training on the recovery strain and recovery stress of the metal-lock staple of Fe-17Mn-5Si-2Cr-2Ni-1V shape memory alloy by the tensile testing and recovery stress measurement, and put forward the use principles of the metal-lock staple of the shape memory alloy.

ABSTRACTShape memory effect in pure ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has been studied using dynamic mechanical analysis. Temperature dependencies of properties that define functional characteristics of shape memory polymers (SMP) such as recovery stress, recovery strain and activation temperature of transition were determined for UHMWPE. The recovery stress in UHMWPE deformed by 200% achieved rather high values, up to 7 MPa.

Shape Memory Alloy(SMA)has advantages of great recovery stress and elastic modulus varied with the temperature, so it can be embedded in composite structure to active control structure deformation and vibration. In this paper, we have deducted the recovery stress at different temperature by modifying the phase-change coefficient Ω of Liang Constitutive Model[1], then base on = /E equation, the recovery stress is translated into recovery strain. By using finite element software ANSYS, the natural frequency of composite plate at influence of recovery stress can be obtained under both ends of fixed conditions at three configurations. The steady-state vibration response of the composite plate embedded SMA fibers is also simulated. The results show that recovery stress of SMA can increase the natural frequency and can suppress vibration effectively.

It is shown that deformability of Ti50.0Ni50,0 alloy at the rolling with current is considerably above than at the cold rolling. The influence of deformation with a current and without a current on feature of martensitic transformations was investigated. Recovery strain and recovery stress were studied on heating the sample subjected to preliminary strain by a three-point bending and optimal regimes of electroplastic rolling were defined.

It has been widely recognized that trihalomethanes (THMs) in drinking water pose a risk to human health. THMs can be removed to a certain extent by the conventional point-of-use (POU) unit which is composed of activated carbon (AC) and microfilter. But it's life on THMs is relatively shorter than on residual chlorine or musty odor. To extent the life of AC adsorber, pressure and thermal swing adsorption (PTSA) was applied by preferential regeneration of chloroform. PTSA was effective to remove THMs, especially chloroform. Adsorption isotherms of chloroform at 25 and 70°C showed a remarkable difference so that thermal swing was considered effective. Chloroform was also desorbed by reducing pressure. By vacuum heating at 70°C, chloroform was almost desorbed from AC and reversible adsorption was considered possible. A prototype of POU unit with PTSA was proposed. Regeneration mode would consist of dewatering, vacuum heating and cooling (backwashing). The unit was maintained in bacteriostatic condition and could be used for a long time without changing an AC cartridge.
