Background: Community health nurses have an important role to play in promoting public health. This study attempted to explore the stakeholders’ perceptions of challenges in the public health nursing practicum in Iran. Methods: This qualitative study was carried out in some schools of nursing and health centers in Iran from October 2015 to September 2017. Twenty-three participants, including faculty members of public health nursing, nursing students, home nurses, experts in health centers, and nursing education policymakers were selected by purposeful sampling. Data were collected using individual interviews and were analyzed by Lundman and Graneheim’s method of content analysis. Results: Three themes resulted from the data analysis, including organizational challenges (with sub-categories of “inappropriate implementation of the curriculum due to lack of authority”, “the treatment-centeredness of health care system”, and “limited fields for nursing practicum”), educational challenges (with sub-categories of “shortcomings of educational curricula” and “the duration and time of practicums”), and workforce challenges (with sub-categories of “the financial burden of public health nursing practicum”, “lack of job position for public health nurses”, and “factors related to the role of instructors”). Conclusion: Senior managers, community health center administrators, and educational planners can use the challenges and barriers raised in this study to make more appropriate planning for the training of nursing students in public health nursing practicum.

Care is an important nursing concept. Nursing education should focus on cultivating students’ performance of caring behaviors to maintain the patient care that is a hallmark of this profession and guard the health of patients. Nursing teachers must understand the factors related to the performance of caring behaviors in students. This knowledge can serve as a reference for the development and teaching strategy of a nursing program. This qualitative study aimed at understanding the factors affecting the performance of caring behaviors by nursing students.This qualitative study was conducted at a science and technology university inNorthern Taiwan. Convenience sampling was used to collect 40 reflective journals from 20 nursing students at the five-year junior college as the study data. Content analysis was used to analyze the data.This study found two themes related to caring behaviors in nursing students: perception of nursing students and inter-subjectivity with patients.The beliefs and perceptions of students are closely linked to their performance of caring behaviors. Greater awareness in nursing students will improve their performance of caring behaviors (e.g., the concept of nursing care, ability to care, empowerment, learning by imitation and inter-subjectivity with patients). Results of this study could serve as a reference for program design and clinical practicum instruction for nursing education, to improve caring behaviors in students.

Abstract Objectives While the nursing profession recognizes the importance of leadership behaviors, limited evidence exists on essential clinical leadership behaviors that nursing students should exhibit upon graduation. The purpose of this study was to determine if there were common leadership behaviors exhibited by recently graduated baccalaureate clinical staff nurses in the United States and Australia. Methods A quantitative descriptive study with a comparative design was conducted using The Clinical Leadership Survey. Results Similar clinical leadership behaviors were reported by nurses from the two countries though there was a statistically significant difference in the overall frequency of behaviors between the two groups. Behaviors in the ‘challenging the process’ domain were less commonly practiced in both countries, identifying a clinical gap and opportunity for student development. Conclusions This study identifies the central behaviors that should be included in baccalaureate nursing education curriculum in order to prepare students for successful transition into practice.

BACKGROUND: Professional identity is the primary goal of nursing education institutions that shaped professional nurse’s identity. However, final-year bachelor nursing students’ perception and experience of professional identity remain limited to explore. AIM: This study aims to analyze final-year bachelor nursing students’ perception and experience toward professional identity in Indonesia. METHODS: A descriptive qualitative study with a drawing exercise was conducted with a convenience sample of final-year bachelor nursing students to explore how they viewed the nursing profession. Thirteen nursing students were recruited from four academic hospitals of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Data were analyzed thematically using Colaizzi methods and NVivo 12 Plus. RESULTS: The analysis showed five themes identified, namely, “Islamic nurse is my identity,” “I follow Islamic sharia,” “I internalize Islamic values,” “I practice professional roles,” and “I obey professional regulation.” CONCLUSION: Nursing students perceived the identity of Islamic nurses into their identity. Developing a strong professional identity is essential for the students to enhance a sense of belonging and career choice in the nursing profession.

Abstract Background : In recent decades, increasing social and health inequalities all over the world has highlighted the importance of social justice as a core nursing value. Therefore, proper education of nursing students is necessary for preparing them to comply with social justice in health systems. This study is aimed to identify the effective factors in teaching the concept of social justice in the nursing curriculum. Method : This is a qualitative study, in which the conventional content analysis approach was employed to analyze a sample of 13 participants selected using purposive sampling method. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect and analyze the data. Results : Analysis of the interviews indicated that insufficient education content, incompetency of educators, and inappropriate education approaches made social justice a neglected component in the academic nursing education. These factors were the main themes of the study and showed the negligence of social justice in academic nursing education. Conclusion : Research findings revealed the weaknesses in teaching the concept of social justice in the nursing education. Accordingly, it is necessary to modify the content of nursing curriculum and education approaches in order to convey this core value. Since nursing educators act as role models for students, especially in practical and ethical areas, more attention should be paid to competency of nursing educators.

Background: The aim of the study was to determine the effects of gender on vocational training of male students who were enrolled in two university undergraduate nursing programs in Turkey.Methods: This qualitative study was carried out in 2014-2015. This qualitative study was carried out in University located in the northwest of Turkey and in University located in the west of Turkey in 2014-2015. The students were third and fourth year-students. In-depth interviews were conducted with students by using an interview guide composed of open-ended questions. The data were evaluated by using content analysis. The ethical approval was provided to conduct the study.Results: Five main themes raised from the in-depth interviews: 1) the reason for preferring nursing; 2) opinions about nursing; 3) educational environment and education content; 4) the issues in the clinical practise and 5) the working areas of the male nurses.Conclusions: The study pointed out the effect of the issues created by the gender discrimination on the education of the male nursing students along with the serious problems sprung from the insufficient infrastructure of the universities on nursing education.

Abstract Background COVID-19 brings several challenges to nursing education that involves both classroom theory and clinical-based practical education. These challenges affect the function of health care and academic institution. The students were vulnerable to the challenges of COVID-19 in the clinical care setting. The aim of this study was to explore the challenges of COVID-19 experienced by nursing students during their clinical practice education. Methods The qualitative study method used a phenomenological approach. A total of four Focus group discussions were conducted in this study. Each FGD consists of six participants in which twelve from third and twelve from fourth-year nursing students. The Quota sampling technique was applied in this study to enroll study participants. The moderator who fluently speaks the English language and Note taker was involved in the study to guide group discussion and to record the data. ATLAS.ti version-7 software was used for coding and forming quotations. Results After data analysis, four main themes and twelve subthemes emerged in this study. The main themes of this study were; Risks to contracting COVID-19, Negative impact on health care, Worry, and Loss of experienced staff. Conclusion Nursing students faced many challenges of COVID-19 during clinical practices. These challenges affect nursing students in learning practical skills and health care facilities to provide quality care. The students give emphasize on their learning by implementing COVID-19 prevention protocols. In addition, health care workers focused on safe procedural practices.
