In this study, we evaluated the effect of changing supports’ position on the vibration characteristics of a three-support flexible rotor shafting. This dependency was first analyzed using a finite element simulation and then backed up with experimental investigations. By computing a simplified rotor shafting model, we found that the first-order bending vibration in a forward whirl mode is the most relevant deforming mode. Hence, the effect of the supports’ positions on this vibration was intensively investigated using simulations and verified experimentally with a house-made shafting rotor system. The results demonstrated that the interaction between different supports can influence the overall vibration deformation and that the position of the support closer to the rotor has the greatest influence.

Aiming at the analysis of the dynamic characteristics of the rotor system supported by deep groove ball bearings, the dynamic model of the double-disk rotor system supported by deep groove ball bearings was established. In this paper, the nonlinear finite element method is used combined with the structural characteristics of deep groove ball bearings. Based on the nonlinear Hertz contact theory, the mechanical model of deep groove ball bearings is obtained. The excitation response results of the rotor system nodes are solved by using the Newmark-β numerical solution method combined with the Newton–Raphson iterative method. The vibration characteristics of the rotor system supported by deep groove ball bearings are studied deeply. In addition, the effect of varying compliance vibration (VC vibration) caused by the change in bearing support stiffness on the dynamics of the system is considered. The time domain and frequency domain characteristics of the rotor system at different speeds, as well as the influence of bearing clearance and bearing inner ring’s acceleration on the dynamics of the rotor system are analyzed. The research shows that the VC vibration of the bearing has a great influence on the motion of the rotor system when the rotational speed is low. Moreover, reasonable control of bearing clearance can reduce the mutual impact between the bearing rolling element and the inner or outer rings of the bearing and reduce the influence of unstable bearing motion on the vibration characteristics of the rotor system. The results can provide theoretical basis for the subsequent study of the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the deep groove ball bearing rotor system.

As sophisticated mechanical equipment, the rotor system of aero-engine is assembled by various parts; bolted flange joints are one of the essential ways of joints. Aiming at the analysis of the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the rotor-bearing system with bolted flange joints, in this paper, a finite element modeling method for a rotor-bearing system with bolted flange joints is proposed, and an incremental harmonic balance method combined with arc length continuation is proposed to solve the dynamic solution of the rotor system. In order to solve the rotor system with rolling bearing nonlinearity, the alternating frequency/time-domain process of the rolling bearing element is deduced. Compared with the conventional harmonic balance method and the time-domain method, this method has the characteristics of fast convergence and high computational efficiency; solving the rotor system with nonlinear bearing force; overcome the shortcoming that the frequency–response curve of the system is too sharp to continue solving. By using this method, the influence of bearing clearance and stiffness on vibration characteristics of the rotor system with bolted flange joints is studied. The evolution law of the state of the rotor system with bolt flange is investigated through numerical simulation and experimental data. The results indicated that the modeling and solving method proposed in this paper could accurately solve the rotor-bearing system with bolted flange joints and analyze its vibration characteristics.
