Smartphone addiction has become common, especially among young people. Previous studies have established a high prevalence of this addiction and the fact that the victims of this addiction experience suffering: from poor sleep quality (and even insomnia), depression, anxiety, stress, experience negative emotions, and are also characterized by a significant decrease in physical activity. The prevalence of smartphone addiction and its negative consequences dictate the need for a comprehensive study. The article examines the manifestations of the phenomenon of smartphone addiction in medical college students. It is shown that the psychological mechanism of the emergence of addictions is described by a general model of psychological impact. It was found that that smartphone addiction is positively associated with loneliness, aggressiveness, bad mood, with the female gender, and negatively – with communicative competence, persistence, self-control, self-regulation, as well as with age. The connections identified in the article with loneliness, aggressiveness, self-regulation, and communicative competence generally correspond to the nature of the correlations established in foreign studies. New for both domestic and foreign studies are the negative links of dependence on smartphones with persistence and self-control revealed in the article. Based on the results of this study, recommendations were developed (based on the obtained empirical data) for college students to minimize the negative impact of smartphones on their mental and physical health. It is recommended in the process of educational work with students to explain the negative consequences of dependence on smartphones and the value of direct, live communication with their environment.

AbstractAcademic procrastination in college students is a common phenomenon, although procrastination’s negative impacts were well known. This study aimed to examine the role of self-regulation in mediating the correlation between mindfulness and academic procrastination. Data were collected by distributing online questionnaires to college students from various universities in Indonesia (n = 305). The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. Instruments used in the research were the Mindfulness Attention and Awareness Scale, the Short form of Self-regulation Questionnaire, and the Academic Procrastination Scale. The regression and mediation analyses were held. Results showed that self-regulation partially mediated the correlation between mindfulness and academic procrastination. Increasing in dispositional mindfulness helps college students regulate themselves, thereby reducing the tendency to procrastinate. The implications and limitations of the study and suggestions for further research are discussed. Keywords: academic procrastination; college students; mindfulness; self-regulation.

This study aims to test the relationship between self-regulation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). This research was conducted on 100 college students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, Indonesia, from representatives of 11 faculties. The data collection method used the FoMO scale and the self-regulation scale. The reliability test used Cronbach’s alpha, and the validity test used the product-moment correlation technique. Validity Test uses product-moment correlation technique, while Reliability Test uses alpha Cronbach. Test validity with N = 40 and table = 0.312 (p=0.05). FoMO scale of 40 items. There were 31 valid items and nine deciduous items moving from 0.334 to 0.715 with a reliability of 0.916. At the same time, the scale of self-regulation is as much as 50 items. There were 38 valid items and 12 deciduous items moving from 0.316 to 0.704 with reliability of 0.925. Based on the results of the study obtained Fcount = 0.739 with Ftable=1.69 (F count < Ftable) and r count = -0.595 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) so based on the results of the analysis that there is a significant relationship between FoMO and self-regulation in students Instagram users at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, Indonesia. The correlation result indicates a negative value, meaning the higher the self-regulation, the lower the FoMO, or the lower the self-regulation, the higher the FoMO. Then obtained the value of coefficient self-regulation variable determination against FoMO of 35.4%

Chapter 3 focuses on the cognitive and intellectual growth of college students and includes vignettes written by undergraduate students. The role of the professor in assisting the undergraduate in developing from dualism to relativism is discussed. A review of various learning styles and a discussion of multiple intelligences is provided. Various strategies for motivating students are discussed. Specific techniques for self-regulation are also examined. The chapter concludes with suggestions for differentiating instruction. Suggestions for underclassmen include autobiographical assignments, modeling and thinking aloud; while suggestions for upperclassmen include choice in assignments and recognition of the challenges of planning a future in the arts.
