Preventive medicine is the basis for the development of health care systems in the European Union, and investment in prevention is recognized as the most effective investment in the industry of preserving and improving health. Prophylactic direction – one of the most important in modern dentistry. The aim of the study – analysis of treatment and prevention performance indicators of Municipal Institution Zhytomyr City Dental Hospital No.1 and defi nition of methods for improving the primary prevention.Materials and Methods. We analyzed the annual reports of internal medicine and surgical departments of Zhytomyr City Dental Hospital No. 1 for the period from 2015 till 2016; we held a poll of 115 patients of the establishment regarding the methods for teeth cleaning and using the accessories and means necessary for oral cavity care. The following methods were used: bibliosemantic, system analysis and logical concluding, interview, and mathematical processing of the collected data. Results and Discussion. Numeric materials refl ecting the work of Zhytomyr City Dental Hospital No.1 indicate that doctors employed in the establishment conduct numerous maneuvers related to oral cavity sanitation using modern fi lling materials and diagnostic methods. However (and predominantly), all the work is directed at secondary prevention. As a result, annually a lot of teeth are removed due to complex caries (23.370–23.898), and there are a lot of patients with signs of periodontal diseases (3.521–3.766). Dispensary for diseases includes 94 patients with pre-tumor pathology. Considering that public hygienic teaching and education is one of the main components of primary treatment, we held a poll involving 115 patients of Zhytomyr City Dental Hospital No. 1. Study results indicate that the patients of the dental care entity have insuffi cient knowledge on using the accessories and means necessary for hygienic procedures. All the respondents are more ready to invest into prevention care than internal medicine and surgical dental treatment. It is possible to reach an upward trend in dental health indicators only with primary caries and periodontal diseases prevention. Adding hygienist in the staffi ng list of dental care entities would allow not only for comprehensive primary prevention, but would also unload the high-class dentists enabling them to conduct more complex oral cavity operations.Conclusions. Zhytomyr City Dental Hospital No. 1 employs no hygienists, that is why its work is aimed at secondary treatment of oral cavity diseases. Low sanitary culture level of Zhytomyr residents is tightly connected with dental health indicators. Further development and reforming of dental care demands training of the new generation of highly qualifi ed junior medical staff (hygienists). Involving of hygienists in treatment care allows improving the quality of preventive dental services and decreasing dental diseases incidence rate.

Providing dental care to cancer patients has been and remains very relevant. Studies of the oral cavity in this category of patients have found a high prevalence of dental disease and, as a consequence, a significant need for dental care. Chemotherapy can cause complications such as stomatitis, mucositis, exacerbation of chronic pulpitis, and periodontitis. Patients with an unsanctioned oral cavity run the risk of developing these complications, unlike patients who regularly visit the dentist. The aim of our work was to study the features of endodontic treatment of patients with malignant neoplasms receiving chemotherapy treatment and to confirm the use of atraumatic and conservative methods of treatment of periapical inflammatory processes. The results obtained confirm that the elimination of infection in the root canal of the teeth leads to the regeneration of periapical lesions of bone tissue. The size of the lesion does not affect the tactics of treatment.

Abstract Aim The aim of this article is to educate oral healthcare providers on the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders. It also shows the impact of epilepsy on the oral cavity and provides suggestions on the dental management of epileptic patients. Review Epilepsy and seizure disorders affect 1.5 million Americans. The disease is caused by a number of genetic, physiologic, and infectious disorders as well as trauma. Treatment is primarily pharmaceutical but can also be surgical. The disease itself and the pharmaceutical management often have an impact on the oral cavity. Primary management considerations are the provision of good periodontal care and the restoration of the teeth with stable, strong restorations. Conclusions With proper understanding of patients with epilepsy and seizure disorders and their medical treatment, the dental care team can safely and effectively render dental care that will benefit the patient and minimize the risk of oral health problems in the future. Aim. Assessment of organs and tissues of oral cavity of professional athletes who use protective mouth guards. Methods. Dental examination of 340 professional athletes of Olympic reserve at the age of 18 to 32 years with a duration of sport experience of 9-13 years was performed. We investigated the effect of mouth guards on the condition of the marginal periodontium and microbial contamination. Changes in periodontal tissues were diagnosed by means of traditional methods of inspection, probing of the periodontal grooves, recesses, as well as determining tooth mobility. The control group included 20 athletes not using athletic mouth guards during training. Results. High prevalence of caries (in average, in all examined athletes the rate of carious teeth reaches 32.90%) and fairly high prevalence of severe forms of periodontal diseases in those patients were revealed. Evaluation of the structure of the index of teeth with decay and fillings and removed teeth showed major defects in timely dental care organization for professional boxers: their ratio of filled teeth does not exceed 40.36% in average. A significant number of extracted teeth (more than 23%) indicates that the examined patients require dental orthopaedic care. 30 examined athletes wearing protective mouth guards had the strains of P. gingivalis, A. Actinomycetemcomitans and P. oralis revealed. Conclusion. The study of dental status of professional athletes using protective mouth guards, showed high prevalence of inflammatory periodontal diseases and low level of hygienic state of oral cavity.

Objective. To study the detection of potentially malignant diseases of the oral cavity in the provision of dental care in outpatient settings Methods. The analysis of the reporting form 039-2/y-88 for 20112020 and medical records of 2400 patients who received dental care on an outpatient basis was carried out. Results. Over the past 10 years, the proportion of people who underwent treatment of the oral mucosa has decreased, relative to the total number of admitted patients and the number of primary patients. Potentially malignant diseases of the oral cavity were diagnosed on an outpatient basis in 7.5 % of cases: leukoplakia 1.75 %, erythroplakia 0.4 %, lichen planus 1.25 %, candidiasis 4.7 %. In 65.5 % of the out-patient medical record issued for the treatment and extraction of teeth, there is no description of the oral mucosa, in 26.8 % a description of the normal state is given, in 7.7 % it is indicated that there are changes in the oral mucosa, of which 5.3 % of the changes are described with varying degrees of detail. At the same time, complaints of burning, pain in the mouth when eating and talking are present in 19.5 % of the out-patient medical record issued during the treatment and removal of teeth. Conclusions. The frequency of diagnosing potentially malignant diseases of the oral cavity in the provision of dental care in outpatient settings is lower than the data of Russian epidemiological studies. Dentists in outpatient settings do not pay due attention to the condition of the oral mucosa.

Currently, in the clinical practice of a dentist-surgeon, patients with various diseases, anomalies and deformities in the oral cavity are often found. The red lichen planus (CPL) is not an exception. This paper discusses the main features of the course of the disease in the oral cavity and possible approaches to therapeutic tactics in surgical intervention. Thus, patients with CPL have edema, hyperemia, multiple or single nodular rashes on the oral mucosa (SOPR), enlarged and painful lymph nodes, and discoloration of the gums. Among the main complaints are pain and bleeding in the area of the changed SOPR, which aggravates the process of surgical intervention and creates certain difficulties for the dentist-surgeon. Due to the spread of this disease among people from 30 to 60 years old, who often require dental care, clinicians need and need to have knowledge about this pathology.

Canine and feline oral cavity was examined, referred to the small animal surgery and obstetric classes of the school veterinary hospital, between 2013, August and December. The study was conducted using a dental chart developed to enable proper oral assessment. The data were compared to the information relayed by the owners, mostly based on the type of food that was given to their pets and used dental care to keep the oral health of their animals. The results showed a lack of owners interest and knowledge about their pets dental care and, additionally, that most animals was not receiving adequate pet meal, what caused accumulation of food between the teeth and the early onset of periodontal disease. Finally, it was concluded that age is an important predisposing factor for the disease.

In the clinical practice of a dentist-orthopedist, patients with various diseases, abnormalities and deformities are often found. In this case, there may often be a relationship between General somatic pathology and manifestations in the oral cavity. Parkinson's disease is no exception. This paper discusses the main features of the course of the disease in the oral cavity and the principles of a differentiated approach to orthopedic treatment. So in patients with Parkinson's disease, sialorrhea (salivation, hypersalivation), dryness of the red border of the lips and oral mucosa, speech changes, «prosthetic» stomatitis are observed. At the same time, these patients have sensory and vegetative disorders, violation of muscle tone, which aggravates the process of prosthetics and creates certain difficulties for a dentist-orthopedist. Due to the spread of this disease among the elderly, who often require dental care, clinicians need to know about this pathology.
