Abstract This article scrutinizes the relationship between collective nostalgia and populism. Different populist figures utilize nostalgia by referring to their country's ‘good old’ glorious days and exploiting resentment of the elites and establishment. Populists instrumentalize nostalgia in order to create their populist heartland, which is a retrospectively constructed utopia based on an abandoned but undead past. Using two original datasets from Turkey, this study first analyzes whether collective nostalgia characterizes populist attitudes of the electorate. The results illustrate that collective nostalgia has a significantly positive relationship with populist attitudes even after controlling for various independent variables, including religiosity, partisanship, satisfaction with life and Euroscepticism. Secondly, the study tests whether nostalgic messages affect populist attitudes using an online survey experiment. The results indicate that Ottoman nostalgia helps increase populist attitudes. Kemalist nostalgia, however, has a weak direct effect on populist attitudes that disappears after controlling for party preference.

The pig industry in Malta is important for the local economy and food safety. As is reported in Galli et al. (2016), Maltese people eat protein-rich diets although the Agriculture and Fisheries Census 2014 issued by the National Statistics Office reports a decrease in the number of pigs being bred on the island. This paper intends to analyse the pattern of Maltese consumer behaviour regarding pork consumption, eliciting the crucial factors affecting local consumption. This study forms part of an ongoing research studying the characteristics and behaviours of the Maltese pork consumer aimed to help the stakeholders in the industry to focus their strength on what is really expected by the consumers. Data was obtained through an online survey with questions/statements related to the demographic characteristics of the respondent, several Likert scale statements to analyse the purchase behaviour, and finally two questions to obtain the respondents’ weekly pork consumption. The research tool was tested for its reliability through an SPSS test, obtaining a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.534. Data was reduced through Factor Analysis, from 17 factors to 5. The VARIMAX test was used to carry out the rotation necessary to reduce data. A resultant 5 factors gave 63% of the total variance in only 6 iterations and this was shown clearly in the scree plot. These five factors were named Product Quality, Peer Influence, Health Issues, Ethnocentrism, and Product Information. Statements found in the research tool were grouped according to their respective new factor and were analysed for their normality. Since the number of respondents was fewer than 100, the Shapiro Wilk test was used to determine if the data has a normal or non-normal distribution. All 5 new factors resulted skewed and therefore the Spearman Correlation test was used to test for the relationship between the Independent variables and the Dependant variables, between the Independent variables themselves, and between the Independent variables and the demographic information gathered. The correlation resulted significant in one Independent variable versus the Dependant variable, in 4 results between the Independent variables themselves, and in 4 results with regard to the relationship between the Independent variables and the Demographic factors. These results give a better picture of the local purchasing behaviour in relation to pork consumption as no previous study in this regard has been published locally before. It is intended to continue studying this phenomenon in the near future by increasing the sample size and making changes to the research tool in order to improve its reliability.

Abstract Background: Female household heads are faced with many more problems than men due to their multiple concurrent roles. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship of supportive roles with mental health and satisfaction with life in female household heads using a structural equations model. Methods: The present descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 286 eligible female household heads in Karaj, Iran, in 2020, who were selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected using VAX social support, the perceived social support scale, the general health questionnaire (GHQ), and the satisfaction with life questionnaire plus a socio-demographic checklist, and were analyzed in SPSS-16 and Lisrel-8.8.Results: The participants’ mean age was 43.1±1.7 years. According to the path analysis results, satisfaction with life had the highest direct positive relationship with perceived social support (B=0.33) and the highest indirect positive relationship with age (B=0.13) and the highest direct and indirect positive relationship with education and social support (B=0.13). Also, mental health had a direct negative relationship with satisfaction with life (B=-0.29), an indirect negative relationship with social support, and both a direct and indirect negative relationship with perceived support (B=-0.26).Conclusion: Based on the results, supportive roles had a negative relationship with mental health and a positive relationship with satisfaction with life in female household heads. Accordingly, given the status and role of women in the health of family members and the community and the greater vulnerability of this group, further attention and support should be directed toward these women by the government and relevant organizations.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between prosocial behaviors, empathy, and positive psychological change in women who have experienced pregnancy loss. Women who had experienced miscarriage or stillbirth ( n = 291) were recruited via social media and completed an online survey that assessed their engagement in in-person or online prosocial behavior, empathy, and posttraumatic growth (PTG). Loss context factors and demographics were also collected. The results indicated that women who engage in in-person prosocial behavior, such as volunteering, report higher levels of PTG compared to those who do not volunteer at all or only volunteer online. A weak positive relationship was found between PTG and empathy. Findings suggest that encouraging clients to engage in in-person volunteering may foster their experience of growth. Future research is needed to further explore the timing of the volunteering in relation to PTG as well as empathy and PTG.

This study examined the relationship between bank lending to agricultural sector and agricultural earnings in Nigeria using secondary data obtained from various editions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletins. Secondary data collected for the selected study variables covered ten years period from 2009 to 2018. The study adopted bank loans and advances to agriculture, interest rate, and inflation as independent variables, while agricultural earnings representing gross national agricultural output was used as dependent variable. The study employed descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis based on the OLS technique assisted by the E-view 10 computer software as the statistical tools for data analysis. The results revealed that all the independent variables had positive relationship with agricultural earnings. Specifically, bank loans and advances to agriculture had statistically significant effect on agricultural earnings. The regression results also showed that the coefficient of determination (R-squared) value of 0.86 indicates that 86% of changes in the dependent variable (AGE) were explained by the combined effect of changes in the independent variables. The study concluded that bank lending to the agricultural sector has a significant positive relationship with agricultural earnings in Nigeria. The study recommended among others that the CBN should step-up policy making, execution and monitoring of bank lending to agriculture; and that the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture should declare a state of emergency on agriculture and make the sector more attractive and viable for investment.
