Research-based learning (RBL) is a useful tool for combining theory and practice in teacher education. However, pre-service teachers struggle with the idea of teacher as researcher. One popular (meta)methodology considered in educational research (and that is well suited to school research) is design-based research (DBR). Incorporating this approach into RBL as a method for developing teaching innovation in schools could be one way to include RBL in teacher education and place pre-service teachers in the position of teacher as researcher. This study explores the potential of using digital concept maps to support the conceptualization phase (during the literature review) of an RBL process based on DBR in a pre-service teacher-education course prior to the design of a teaching innovation strategy for schools. Quantitative and qualitative data were obtained from a questionnaire administered to pre-service teachers and from the semantic evaluation of the concept maps of these teachers. Our results show an overall consensus among pre-service teachers that concept maps are useful for structuring small-scale literature reviews. Pre-service teachers also believe there is a strong possibility that they will use concept maps when they become teachers. We use our findings to make recommendations for university lecturers to use digital concept maps to design RBL activities based on literature reviews and with emphasis on teacher education.

In this paper, we present the design of a teacher training sequence, emphasizing supporting pre-service teachers to reflect on their knowledge, skills, and emotions experienced when engaging in scientific practices. We consider such reflections being crucial in initial teacher training because they can make pre-service teachers aware of the cognitive, procedural and emotional process that their students are bound to experience in the class. The importance of this work lies in the fact that emotions, even though important, are relatively underexplored. Furthermore, the way the sequence is developed can be used with students, both to promote scientific practices and explore their emotions, to give evidence to pre-service teachers of the effectiveness of this, and make them reflect on how scientific practices work, and the advantages of learning science implementing scientific practices.

This research is motivated by the results of learning science in fourth grade elementary school students who are still low. The purpose of this study was to improve the learning outcomes of science by applying the Cooperative Think Pair Share (TPS) type learning model. The results showed, seen from the basic score, students who completed as many as 11 people with a percentage of 47.82% while students who did not complete amounted to 12 people with a percentage of 52.17%. cycle I, students who completed at 17 people with a percentage of 73.91% while students who did not complete as many as 6 people with a percentage of 26.08%. cycle II, students who completed as many as 20 people with a percentage of 86.95% while the incomplete amounted to 3 people with a percentage of 13.04%. from the results of this study it can be concluded that by applying the cooperative learning model the Think Pair Share (TPS) type can improve the science learning outcomes of class IV elementary school 004 Seberang Teluk Hilir Kuantan Tengah District Kuantan Singingi Regency.

One of phenomena that occur in the educational world is the issue of discrepancies that occur between theory the pre-service teacher learned in college with implementation when they should teach in thereal fields (schools). Problem Based Learning (PBL) becomes one of the efforts to bridge the existing problems. This research is conducted to find out the extend of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Micro Teaching course since the course must be accomplished by students before carrying out practical activities in the real field in the school at teaching training program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And in this research the writer uses case study as a research design to find out the purpose of the research. The participants of the the research are 8 students from a class of micro teaching course in English Department of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. In this paper, The Students as the Pre Service Teacher(s) are coded PST(s). The writer uses observation as the instruments of the research. Theory of Miles and Huberman are used to collect data from observation. Regarding to the discussion above, the four aspects of competences of effective teacher are shown in the teaching practice done by the students of Micro teaching course that apply Problem Based Learning (PBL). The majority results of the observation explain that applying Problem Based Learning in Micro Teaching course develops pre-service teachers competence in their teaching in classroom. This research shows pre-service teachers can integrate their competences and create good performance in their teaching practice.

This article will elaborate the use of performance assessment to measure students competencies in learning science. What type of performance assessment appropriate to assess students learning outcome of science? The answer of this question is necessary for the teachers to determine the best assessment technique in science. Basically science can be considered as the root of knowledge and technology. Learning activities in science should be designed in order to facilitate students learning. It is a constructive process which requires students to study concepts inductively. Learning activities in science should be based on constructivism learning theory which encourages students to build their own knowledge and to apply it in the real world. Learning science should involve several essentials activities such as student involvement (engagement); extracting knowledge (exploration); presenting the findings (explanation); understanding knowledge (elaboration); and achievement learning competencies (assessment). It is necessary to implement performance assessment to measure the students learning outcome in science. Pembelajaran sains berbasis teori belajar konstruktivistik bercirikan belajar seperti: Keterlibatan siswa (engagement); penggalian pengetahuan (exploration); penjelasan (explanation); penjabaran (elaboration); dan penilaian (assessment).
