Role of Color on the Production of Responses in Children’s Rorschach Protocols

Author(s):
Danilo Rodrigues Silva

Previous studies have shown that, while color has the property to increase the production of responses to the Rorschach, such an effect is not present in children’s protocols. Based on a review of the literature, the author highlights the characteristic of high reactive demand of the subject to color stimulus and traces its evolution to the preoperational period, where color nominations and the incongruent use of color, especially of pure color, are frequent. With the entry in the period of concrete operations such responses become rare or even disappear. In turn, the mean number of responses to color cards decreases between 5 to 6 and 11 years, and their form quality goes down as well. The cause of this change is the emergence and development of logical thinking. Given the intensity of color stimulus, the child does not yet have the equipment that will allow her to later integrate color and object as they really are.

We describe the clinical presentation and clinical course of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis in a 13-year-old previously healthy boy who recently immigrated to the United States from Iraq. He presented with macular retinopathy, followed by progressive myoclonus and encephalopathy. After extensive workup, a diagnosis of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis was suspected by the presence of period epileptiform discharges on electroencephalogram and confirmed by elevated measles titers in the cerebrospinal fluid. Combination immunomodulatory therapy with isoprinosine, ribavirin, and intra-Ommaya interferon alpha did not result in clinical improvement. Within days following the administration of carbamazepine, there was remarkable improvement in the myoclonus and he was able to ambulate independently for a period of 4 months at which time he unfortunately progressed to a vegetative state. This case highlights the importance of carbamazepine as a potential first line symptomatic treatment of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis and provides a review of the literature on the subject.

This review summarizes to date the research on the Barnum effect, the tendency for people to accept vague, ambiguous, and general statements as descriptive of their unique personalities. Studies examined address interpretation variables of the Barnum profiles in regard to generality and supposed relevance of the interpretation, favorability of interpretation, type of assessment procedure, and origin and format of interpretation. Also the role of personal factors such as characteristics of the subject and test administrator are examined. It is concluded that the level of acceptance of Barnum profiles depends on the relevance and favorability of the profile and to some extent on the type of assessment utilized. Directions for research on the Barnum effect are provided.

This article aims to present the current of formative assessment for the subject of database design for virtual environments where virtual platforms mentioned with conventional assessment strategies for areas related to engineering. Among the main issues focused review of the literature is Bloom's taxonomy, virtual environments, platforms, and educational assessment. From the theoretical point of view focuses on the design theme of the databases, assessment methodologies and the different alternatives for virtual environments, emphasizing resources and forms as encountered today. It also takes into account the role of the student and the teacher in the process of assessment and feedback of learning. After experimenting and evaluating from the point of view formative assessment, both standard platforms, as the projects developed by colleges and universities, it is concluded that the platforms do not even take into account this type of assessment and the results obtained for particular projects, not sufficient to cover actual and complete a process of this type of assessment.Keywords: Virtual Environment, formative evaluation, Designed data base

The principles of the postmethod, defended by Kumaravadivelu (1994), lay the theoretical bases for the teacher to assume the protagonism of his/her classes, since he/she is seen as the only one capable of choosing the methodologies, techniques, and activities. In this context, after the discussions about the concepts of gamification in the EWB-UFx, teachers and coordinators planned a 16-hour course fully gamified. Thus, after a brief review of the literature on the subject, this paper describes the entire process of the Zombie-Apocalypse-course planning, highlighting the choices made based on the purposes of the script created and the principles of gamification theories. At the end, some considerations on the role of the script in the execution of the classes, the perceptions of teachers and coordinators on students’ performance and the percentage of permanence of the pupils until the end of the course were pointed out.

Objective To analyze the possibilities and limits of competency-based training in nursing. Method An integrative review of the literature on the subject was carried out, and an analysis was made of the results of a survey evaluating a nursing course based on areas of competency. A dialog was then established between the review and the results of the research. Results On the question of which theoretical type of competency the articles from the literature relate to, there is a predominance of the constructivist perspective, followed by the functionalist approach and the dialog-based approach. In the dialog between the literature and the research, limits and possibilities were observed in the development of a training by areas of competency. Conclusion The dialog-based approach to competency is the proposition that most approximates to the profile defined by the National Curriculum Guidelines for training in nursing, and this was also identified in the evaluation survey that was studied. However, it is found that there are aspects on better work is needed, such as: partnership between school and the workplace, the role of the teacher, the role of the student, and the process of evaluation.

The form of the Reynolds-type equation which governs the macroscopic mechanics of hydrodynamic lubrication interfaces with a microscopic texture is well-accepted. The central role of the ratio of the mean film thickness to the texture period in determining the flow factor tensors that appear in this equation had been highlighted in a pioneering theoretical study through a rigorous two-scale derivation (Bayada and Chambat, 1988, “New Models in the Theory of the Hydrodynamic Lubrication of Rough Surfaces,” ASME J. Tribol., 110, pp. 402–407). However, the resulting homogenization theory still remains to be numerically investigated. For this purpose, after a comprehensive review of the literature, three microscopic regimes of lubrication will be outlined, and the transition between these three regimes for different texture types will be extensively demonstrated. In addition to conventional textures, representative re-entrant textures will also be addressed.

The topic of this book, part of a new series published by Benjamins entitled Pragmatics and beyond, is negotiated interaction. It begins with a lengthy introduction to the subject matter, and then presents an empirical study of negotiated interaction in English as a foreign language classrooms in Morocco. The first two chapters (a third of the text) seek to operationalize interaction and define the role of negotiated interaction in second language acquisition (SLA). These chapters are useful in the sense that they provide a fairly comprehensive review of the literature prior to 1991. However, the field has come a long way since that time, and a decade of crucial work is missing from this 1999 book.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a common rheumatic condition with an unknown etiology. The role of diet in the treatment of FM has been the subject of a small but growing body of research, particularly in Scandinavian nations, with results showing benefits in pain reduction, sleep quality, and general health. Removal of dietary excitotoxins, alteration of cytokines, reduced oxidative stress, improved bowel flora, and central nervous system chemical modification may result from dietary modifications in FM. Based on this review of the literature, it can be concluded that dietary modification may provide relief in a subset of FM patients and certainly warrants further investigation.
