The aim of this study is to explore the CELTA course from the perspective of EFL instructors. A single case study of qualitative research methods is employed in the study. The sample consists of 6 EFL instructors working for a private university in Turkey. The quantitative data of the research was obtained through course evaluation survey. Qualitative data was gathered by open-ended questions and interview forms developed by the researcher and also with the documents. Descriptive analysis was performed to show evaluation of the course in the quantitative phase of the research. On the other hand, the content analysis method was applied in the analysis of qualitative data. As a result of the study, the CELTA course is useful for EFL instructors’ careers; nevertheless the course components and content should be redesigned considering andragogic principles. Moreover, EFL instructors were pleased to take the course at the end of the course although the course’s weaknesses.

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on education models was mainly through the expansion of technology use in the different educational programs. Earlier impact of COVID-19 was manifested in the complete and sudden transition to distance education regardless of institution preparedness status. Gradually, many institutions are moving back to on-campus face-to-face education. However, others including all higher education institutions in Iraq are adopting the hybrid education model. This report presents part of the end of semester evaluation survey conducted at the University of Baghdad College of Pharmacy for the Spring 2021 semester. The survey aims to address points of strength and weakness associated with the hybrid education model and specifically the virtual content delivery aspect of hybrid education. The outcomes of the end of semester evaluation will shape a better experience for upcoming years and guide distance education implantation in the program.

Total edentulism is the loss of all teeth for any cause by a multifactorial process that involves biological and patient-related factors. Studies on edentulism and risk factors in Mexico are limited, and the epidemiological surveillance data is scarce and controversial since official governmental reports are not statistically representative of the country. We estimate the distribution for edentulism according to sociodemographic and socioeconomic variables in adults from a low-income state in 2003 and its progress in Mexico. We analyzed data from the National Performance Evaluation Survey in Oaxaca, Mexico, and the annual reports of the Epidemiological Surveillance System of Oral Pathologies in 2009–2019 using X2. Oaxacan patients older than 75 y.o. (17.9%, p < 0.05), those with lower schooling (11.2%), and diabetes (14.5%) presented the highest percentage of edentulism. We do not observe differences in edentulism between sex or residence (p > 0.05). From 2009 to 2019, country data reports the lowest rate of edentulism in adults over 20 y.o. (0.32%; 95% CI 0.18–0.48%) and the most affected population over 79 y.o. (7.29%; 95% CI 5.2–9.30%). As it is a cumulative phenomenon, it is necessary to establish better surveillance, prevention, and treatment programs to improve the oral health of older thus reducing edentulism.

Abstract It is well established that the health professional workforce is not adequately prepared to meet the demands of an aging older population. Caregivers are often the backbone supplemental workforce for seniors, providing daily care with assistance with activities of daily living, with little training. Part of the mission of the South Florida Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (SFGWEP) is to support and empower caregivers through community based training programs. Between January 1 2020 to January 31, 2021 SFGWEP provided education to more than 340 caregivers on topics related to opioid use, effective communication with individuals with dementia and other topics. Attendees responded to a short evaluation survey, which included three multiple-choice questions on if attending was a good use of their time, if they gained knowledge and if they plan to apply material, and two open-ended questions to identify opportunities for improvement in future trainings. Responses were overwhelmingly positive (>98% for multiple-choice questions.) There were also three open-ended questions that were analyzed using a modified thematic approach. The three questions covered what attendees learned, what they wanted to learn more about and suggestions for improvement. Analysis suggests that attendees plan to be more mindful about communication (e.g. improve eye contact, listen more) and that they want more information on neurocognitive disorders and resent research, including psychological changes due to disease and medication side effects. In terms of improvement, attendees said the program should allow more time for questions and should use more engaging materials (polls, posters, flyers and case studies).

As parents reach the age of middle adults, they enter the empty nest phase when their children start moving out and living independently. During this phase, parents who show maladaptive responses towards the situation suffer from empty nest syndrome. Additionally, their physical and mental state can deteriorate, so it is important to take precautions. With the support of intimate family members, parents could take preventive measures to avert empty nest syndrome. Hence, this study program uses a nine-minute psychoeducation video posted on Youtube to educate families about empty nest syndrome so they can learn to take the correct action to cope. The data were acquired from two sets of surveys given to 45-65 years old parents and 18-25 years old emerging adults. Our initial survey was filled by 67 emerging adults and 75 middle adults. Then, our evaluation survey was filled by 51 emerging adults and 39 middle adults. We chose the descriptive research method to analyze our data from the surveys. During the project, we compared participants’ knowledge before and after they watched the psychoeducation video we provided. Our findings showed 100% emerging adults and 95% adults realize the urgency to be prepared in coping with empty nest syndrome. Other than that, another 90% of our total participants were able to define and identify symptoms of the syndrome. Not only that, they are also knowledgeable about the correct coping methods and understand the roles children could fill in order to help their parents. Therefore, we concluded that the video is an effective medium to increase participants’ awareness towards empty nest syndrome. Furthermore, research participants also successfully learn ways to treat and prevent the syndrome.
