Triple Superphosphate (TSP) is a chemical fertilizer, acknowledged by its important content of phosphorus, necessary element for plants. It’s obtained by adding phosphoric acid to phosphate ore, consisting of calcium phosphate containing many impurities. TSP was dissolved at different temperatures and in various amounts of water, filtered to remove insoluble compounds. Then the ionic conductivity was monitored for each solution as a function of the added amount of TSP. Aqueous solutions were evaporated to dryness and analyzed the P2O5. The starting materials and final products were analyzed by several methods (XRD, IR, NMR, SEM) confirming that after dissolution the product was purified.

Aqueous solutions of inorganic salts are known to be effective grinding lubricants for titanium. Early work by Professor Shaw at MIT drew particular attention to the use of phosphate salts, and although not commercially available as grinding fluids, some metal fabricators have compounded phosphate-containing fluids for their own use from the raw chemicals. In this paper, the dynamics of grinding Ti(6Al-4V) alloy are described using phosphate salt solutions. The results show that both aluminum oxide and silicon carbide coated abrasive belts have unique advantages in this application, with aluminum oxide exhibiting easy penetration and fast cutting behavior early on, while silicon carbide appears to have longer range durability.

Flotation data on copper-bearing shale in aqueous solutions of inorganic electrolytes (NaCl, Na2SO4, KPF6, NH4Cl) and organic reagents (ethylamine, propylamine) as frothers were presented and discussed. The relationships between shale flotation, surface tension of aqueous solution and foam height during bubbling with air in the flotation system were presented. It has been found that flotation of shale in the presence of inorganic salts the yield was directly proportional to the surface tension of the aqueous solution of salt and inversely proportional to the height of the foam. On the other hand, for organic reagents solutions (short chain amines), a reverse effect has been observed in relation to the inorganic compounds studied, that is the yield of copper-bearing shale flotation and the foam height were inversely proportional to the surface tension of the amine solution.

The metastable zone width of an aqueous solution of KCI was measured as a function of the time and temperature of overheating above the equilibrium solubility temperature. It has been found that when the experiments follow close upon one another, the parameters of the preceding experiment affect the results of the experiment to follow. The results are interpreted in terms of hypotheses advanced in the literature to account for the effect of thermal history of solution. The plausibility and applicability of these hypotheses are assessed for the given cause of aqueous solution of a well soluble electrolyte.

In order to investigate this subject, I devised and constructed the following apparatus :—A and B are two thin glass basins, 81 millims. internal diameter (= 5,153 sq. millims. of mercury surface), and 6·0 centims. deep; each containing a layer of mercury about 1·0 centim. deep, covered by a layer, about 3 centims. deep, of the aqueous solution to be examined.

AbstractIn this study, a new optical method is presented to determine the concentrations of NaCl and glucose aqueous solutions by using a thermo-elastic optical indicator microscope. By measuring the microwave near-field distribution intensity, concentration changes of NaCl and glucose aqueous solutions were detected in the 0–100 mg/ml range, when exposed to microwave irradiation at 12 GHz frequency. Microwave near-field distribution intensity decreased as the NaCl or glucose concentration increased due to the changes of the absorption properties of aqueous solution. This method provides a novel approach for monitoring NaCl and glucose in biological liquids by using a CCD sensor capable of visualizing NaCl and glucose concentrations without scanning.

The oxidation of catechol in the presence of two aliphatic and aromatic amines has been investigated. In aqueous solutions of pH 7.0 and 11.7, the substitution pattern of the adduct was dependent on the type of amine used. Aromatic amines produced 4,5-disubstituted o-quinones, whereas aliphatic amines gave either 2,4,5-trisubstituted or 2,4-disubstituted o-quinone adducts. A rationale based upon the stability of vinylogous amides is presented to account for the observed substitution pattern.
