Elicited imitation tasks are frequently used as a diagnostic tool in evaluating children with communication handicaps. This article presents a scoring procedure that can be used to obtain an in-depth descriptive analysis of responses produced on elicited imitation tasks. The Elicited Language Analysis Procedure makes it possible to systematically evaluate responses in terms of both their syntactic and semantic relationships to the stimulus sentences presented by the examiner. Response quality measures are also included in the analysis procedure.

Abstract Background Staphylococcus aureus treatment guidelines are being revised to include proposed quality measures for evaluation of patients with S. aureus bacteremia (SAB) (e.g., infectious disease [ID] consultation, echocardiogram, and documenting clearance of bacteremia). We describe current management practices of SAB to identify opportunities for quality improvement. Methods We conducted a pilot assessment of SAB cases reported to CDC’s Emerging Infections Program active, laboratory- and population-based surveillance from 24 hospitals in four states during 1–2 months in 2017 or 2018. An SAB case was the isolation of S. aureus from a blood culture among adults (≥18 years) in the catchment area. We collected clinical and demographic information and performed a descriptive analysis of management of SAB cases. Results Among 109 SAB cases identified, 50 (46%) were methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). While hospitalized, 87 (80%) patients were evaluated by ID consultation, 90 (83%) underwent an echocardiogram (26 were transesophageal), and 92 (84%) had documented clearance of bacteremia. During the hospitalization, 15 (14%) died and 12 (11%) left against medical advice (AMA). Of those who survived and did not leave AMA, median duration of hospitalization after initial culture was 10.5 days (interquartile range 7–18). In total, 10 survivors (9% of cases) completed at least 2 weeks of antibiotics while hospitalized, and 65 (60% of cases) were discharged on antibiotic therapy. Among the 25 MRSA patients discharged on antibiotics, common treatments were vancomycin (64%), daptomycin (8%), ceftaroline (8%), and linezolid (4%). Among the 40 methicillin-susceptible SAB patients discharged on antibiotics, cefazolin (56%), ceftriaxone (13%), cefepime (5%), linezolid (5%), nafcillin (3%), and vancomycin (3%) were most common. The remainder of outpatient treatments included oral β-lactams, clindamycin, doxycycline, levofloxacin, and erythromycin. Conclusion Overall, the majority of patients with SAB underwent evaluation according to the proposed quality measures and received therapy with targeted anti-staphylococcal agents, although opportunities to optimize treatment remain. Hospitalized patients who leave AMA represent a particular challenge for effective SAB therapy. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

This article is an attempt to comprehend the difficulties and propose approaches to eliminate them when analyzing legal documents in the framework of economic and interdisciplinary research. The utmost goal is to seek incorporating advances in computational linguistics and natural language analysis into the discourse of the digital economy in order to develop methods involved in decision-making and strategy development based on the analysis of textual information. In conditions when the amount of information is too large, is constantly updated and / or the area of study is new, the most expedient at the first stage is to obtain the general structure of the entire collection of documents, some kind of semantic compression of information. The practical part contains the development of an approach for the analysis of regulations governing food and nutrition issues, in particular, related to the prevention of the development of iron deficiency anemia (IDA). The approach includes the extraction of key information of voluminous texts (keywords and key sentences) based on the TextRank graph algorithm. An important link contributing to cognition is also the visualization of semantic relationships between words within documents. In our opinion, it is the combination of semantic compression and visualization of information as a “close-up” of text documents, as well as the possibility of further detailing by linear reading and analysis, which are the most relevant approach in conditions of information overload and attention deficit. The active introduction of text analytics methods for systems that are not involved in attention markets, which lag significantly behind in the convenience of extracting meaningful information, is especially important. Approaches to improve the understanding of large volumes of regulations will be of significant value to researchers in economic, legal or multidisciplinary research.

Consumer hedonic scores for potatoes were linked to sensory characteristics to understand the underlying consumer segments, flavor and texture preferences and attitudinal associations regarding potatoes. Consumers were asked to evaluate liking on a 9-point hedonic scale for 12 cultivars of potatoes. Sensory findings were collected by using a consensus-based descriptive analysis approach for the same cultivars. Segmentation analysis procedure identified three subgroups of consumers with different overall liking patterns, indicating variability in the acceptance of different potato cultivars. Drivers of liking were identified for respective segments by using preference mapping. Dissimilar features were found important in determining potato liking patterns. Purple Majesty, Masquerade and Rio Colorado cultivars were found most liked by respondents, while Russian Banana were found to be liked the least. Tuber color, price, variety name on package, color of peel, and being locally produced were found to be important factors in purchasing decisions.

The Developmental Assessment of Spanish Grammar (DASG) provides a language analysis procedure for Spanish-speaking children similar to the Developmental Sentence Scoring (DSS) procedure in English. The DASG is not an attempted translation of the DSS but was developed independently, taking into consideration the present knowledge of Spanish language acquisition. The purpose of the DASG is to evaluate the language of children with deficient grammatical skills in Spanish and to serve as a model for structuring Spanish language therapy. Proposed syntactic hierarchies for the following six grammatical categories are presented: indefinite pronouns and noun modifiers, personal pronouns, primary verbs, secondary verbs, conjunctions, and interrogative words. Weighted scores are assigned to groups of structures within the hierarchies and are used to score Spanish sentences children use spontaneously in conversation with an adult. The DASG was standardized on 128 Spanish-speaking children between the ages of 3.0 and 6.11 years. Norms and reliability measures are presented.

Text, reader, and author are three entities that are interlocked in a process of understanding text. For Friedrich D.E. Schleiermacher, someone can only understand the text he/she reads if he/she delves into the author's psychological experience and knows exactly the phrases that the author uses in writing text. Talking about reading the Qur’an as a text found by modern humans today which its existence as a text is revealed in the seventh century in the Arabic nation, it is a must for anyone to know the Arabic grammatical used by the Qur'an. This article discusses linkages between the language analysis formulated by Schleiermacher and the method of understanding the Qur'an which is today found in the text form with special reference to the four key terms discussed. Using the descriptive-analysis method this research finds that Schleiermacher’s hermeneutic becomes relevant to Quranic studies because it can enrich existing interpretive methods. The concept of psychological hermeneutics will contribute to the realm of asbāb al-nuzūl study and the necessity of proper faith. Whereas the grammatical will contribute to the realm of understanding Qur’an as ancient Arabic text.

In Pakistan, the teacher education program has undergone a number of changes in terms of a new curriculum, quality measures and certification policies. The present study has attempted to assess the effectiveness of the program from student-teachers' perspectives. A closed-ended questionnaire was used to collect data from 200 student-teachers from four public sector universities. An initial descriptive analysis showed that teaching quality has slightly improved. An institution with a better learning environment was better at meeting student-teachers expectation. Only 12% of the participants reported that 100% of their expectations were met, while 40% of the participants reported that 80% of their expectations were met by the program. There was no association between Strengths of the Program and Sex' as, ?2 (2, n = 165) = .588, p >.05, phi = .06. The association between Program Level (ADE, B. Ed) and Perceived Strengths of the Program was statistically significant as ?2 (3, n = 165) = 24.725, p >.0005, phi = .380. Institution Type and Perceived Strengths of the Program were also statistically significantly associated as ?2 (9, n= 165) = 80.060, p<.05.
