The research conducted in Turkey indicates that the television viewers usually spend their leisure daytime watching television programs such as health, cooking, beauty, fashion, shopping, and competitions. These programs that mostly refer to entertainment function enable viewers to learn as well as have an enjoyable time. Among the reasons why the television viewers prefer to watch these programs are migration to larger cities and the need of the viewers, who spend more time together at home with the family and have nothing but the television at home as the neighborhood culture has disappeared, to see their equivalents and communicate their troubles. This chapter discusses the changing program preferences of the television audience and the causes affecting the transforming program contents since the early 2000s in Turkey, which is one of the countries with the highest television-viewing rate and uses the method of in-depth interview with the experts in the field.

Media literacy in the digital era has become important. Various layers of society need to understand the importance of digital media literacy. Research subjects were housewives in the Sleman area of Yogyakarta. Research subjects so far have not understood how to intelligently consume media. Media content worries that most of them are negative which can anesthetize the audience. The biggest content from media is entertainment. The media prioritizes entertainment programs that pay less attention to the ethics and norms of society. They don't care about the negative impact of the content displayed. Thus it is necessary to cultivate the media literacy movement for housewives. The method used is content analysis, literature study, in-depth interviews, observation, and FGD. The results of the study show that housewives after being given training, socialization, and FGD on digital media literacy became aware of the importance of digital media literacy. Then they continuously convey to the family and the environment where they are. On several occasions, PKK meetings, the Qur’an recitation group, socialized the importance of digital media literacy. Finally, this digital media literacy becomes a culture especially in Maguwoharjo Village, Sleman regency, Yogyakarta. This village is a pilot village of digital media literacy culture for the surrounding environment, especially the Sleman Regency Yogyakarta.

Our aim is to highlight the role played by television in pre-school-aged childrens social relationships. We moreover examine how social relationships are related to childrens capabilities to cope with their television fears.Children aged 5 to 6 (N=309) were interviewed in three Finnish university cities using previously developed interview methods. Parents (N=297) completed four questionnaires covering family background, TV viewing habits, psychiatric well-being and quality and quantity of the childs sleep. Television viewing by pre-school-aged children was quite social in nature, although our qualitative data suggested that television was sometimes also used in asocial ways. Co-viewing within the family was common, whereas peer groups signi? cance in the media reception process was evident after the viewing situation, in childrens games based on television programs. 62% of children reported at least one television fear. However, it seems that the presence of family members may help children to cope with television fears.

The process of resocialization is important to ensure that juveniles at the rehabilitation institution changed as expected by the community. But the process of resocialization will not completely successful if there are barriers. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify barriers that derange the successful resocialization process of juveniles. The data were obtained through an in-depth interview session with the respondent in the study and observation. Through purposive sampling, the twenty-seven staff of a correctional institution and twenty-three juveniles were selected to participate as respondents in this study. This study revealed that there were barriers that deranged the resocialization process such as juveniles factor (juvenile behavior; not interested in learning, religion classes, activities, programs), rehabilitation institution’s factor (inadequate facilities, inadequate finance), juvenile family’s factor (socioeconomic of the family, lack of parents’ responsibility) and society factor (negative perception of society). In conclusion, these findings prove that there are obstacles in order to resocialize juveniles from the Malaysian context. If these obstacles are not well addressed, it will give a negative impact not only on juveniles but also on Malaysia.

Violence against women (VAW) continues to exist as a pervasive, structural, systematic, and institutionalized violation of women’s basic human rights (UNDivision of Advancement for Women, 2006). It cuts across the boundaries of age, race, class, education, and religion which affect women of all ages and all backgrounds in every corner of the world. Such violence is used to control and subjugate women by instilling a sense of insecurity that keeps them “bound to the home, economically exploited and socially suppressed” (Mathu, 2008, p. 65). It is estimated that one out of every five women worldwide will be abused during her lifetime with rates reaching up to 70 percent in some countries (WHO, 2005). Whether this abuse is perpetrated by the state and its agents, by family members, or even by strangers, VAW is closely related to the regulation of sexuality in a gender specific (patriarchal) manner. This regulation is, on the one hand, maintained through the implementation of strict cultural, communal, and religious norms, and on the other hand, through particular legal measures that sustain these norms. Therefore, religious institutions, the media, the family/tribe, cultural networks, and the legal system continually disciplinewomen’s sexuality and punish those women (and in some instances men) who have transgressed or allegedly contravened the social boundaries of ‘appropriateness’ as delineated by each society. Such women/men may include lesbians/gays, women who appear ‘too masculine’ or men who appear ‘too feminine,’ women who try to exercise their rights freely or men who do not assert their rights as ‘real men’ should, women/men who have been sexually assaulted or raped, and women/men who challenge male/older male authority.
