The 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake caused an extensive damage to various areas of Yogyakarta regions. The damage distribution indicates the role of local site effects during the earthquake as the damage extended from Bantul Regency in Yogyakarta Province to Klaten Regency in Central Java. Microzonation based on the damage distribution is then carried out using Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) technique. From this technique, amplification factor and predominant frequency can be obtained and then spatially mapped. Inversion can also be conducted to the HVSR curves to infer the geological condition of the study area.

The evaluation of ambient seismic noise at the Hellenic Unified Seismic Network (HUSN) stations is investigated in this study. Ambient vibration recordings combined with the horizontal to vertical (H/V) spectral ratio technique helps in characterizing local site effects. This technique was applied at 17 sites ambient noise measurements. We selected a number of 1-hr waveform segments during day and night for summer and winter. For each site the H/V spectral ratio was calculated and the results were combined with geological and geophysical information. The goal was to show the network performance as far as the station quality and noise level at each site concerns in order to provide possible structural improvements, seismic station relocations or to detecting operational problems.

Mytilene is the capital of Lesvos, the eighth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and the largest in the North Aegean. The region of North Aegean is a geotectonically complex area, because its geodynamic status is directly affected by the North Anatolian Fault Zone. In the present paper, microtremor data have been analyzedfor the city of Mytilene using Nakamura technique of Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) to ascertain the structure in terms of the predominant frequency. 100 microtremor measurements have been performed in the city of Mytilene. At each point of microtremor measurement, the natural frequency and amplification factor have been determined. The predominant frequency varies from 0.4 Hz to 6.6 Hz. The amplification factor in 0.4-8.07 range has been obtained from the HVSR analysis. The results are presented in terms of maps, including the spatial variability of the predominant frequency and developed GIS database. The results of this study make it clear that the characteristics of microtremors depend on the type of soil deposits.

Disaster mitigation has been undertaken to reduce the impact of loss or damage caused by the earthquake. For disaster mitigation purpose, it is necessary to conduct a local geological assessment. The horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) of microtremor analysis is very popular in the context of seismic micro-zonation. Microtremor method is cheap, data acquisition is easy, and does not cause noise, so suitable for use in residential areas. This research aims to determine the distribution of the natural frequency value, the amplification factor value, and the soil vulnerability index value. This study was conducted geographically between 7°26'17.45" – 7°26'53.16" S and 111°47'14.76" – 111°48'7.06" E. Data processing using HVSR analysis method on Easy HVSR software. The results showed that the natural frequency (<em>fo</em>) values range 0,95 Hz to 8,3 Hz and the amplification factor values range 2,05 to 8,67. From the result data of the natural frequency and the amplification factor, the soil vulnerability index can be calculated. The vulnerability index (Kg) value ranges from 1,09 to 68,33. The northeast side of the study area is indicated as a weak zone where have high potential to damage when the earthquake occurred.

Abstract Strong horizontal ground motions with the peak ground acceleration (PGA) larger than 1400 gal were observed at Yamamoto (MYGH10) station during the February 2021 Mj 7.3 off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, Fukushima earthquake. Firstly, in this paper, we discussed and verified the theoretical assumptions of the “Nakamura” method under weak and strong ground motions. The site amplification factor of the MYGH10 station was estimated using the surface horizontal-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) and the surface-to-borehole spectral ratio (SBSR), and the corrected HVSRC, respectively. Meanwhile, the reasons for underestimating the site amplification factor when using HVSR were explained. The vertical amplification phenomenon of seismic P-wave in the high-frequency band was analysed under weak and strong ground motions. Secondly, we utilized HVSR, SBSR, and theoretical transfer function (TTF) based on the 1D wave propagation theory to study the nonlinear site response of MYGH10 station under the mainshock of the Fukushima earthquake and the historically weak and strong ground motions, respectively. The changes in frequencies and amplitudes of the spectral ratio curves when nonlinearities were occurring at the site were analysed and compared using the spectra ratio curves of weak ground motion records and TTF as references. Finally, the recovery of the site after strong nonlinearity was also evaluated by comparing the spectral ratio curves of aftershocks records. We found that the most significant amplification factor of the site increased from 7 to more than 10, and the predominant frequency decreased from 10 Hz to 3.8 Hz under the mainshock of the Fukushima earthquake. The predominant frequency returned to the previous value within three days after the mainshock, but the amplification factor did not.

PurposeReligious doctrines generally encourage people to behave ethically. However, in daily life, individuals notice inconsistencies between religious beliefs and behavior, leading them to ask, in the context of commerce, why religious consumers would behave unethically. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of consumers' intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity on their ethical behavior. Specifically, the moderating effect of ethical ideology on the relationship between Indonesian consumers' religiosity and their ethics was examined by means of a survey.Design/methodology/approachThe data derived from the questionnaire were complemented by convenience samples of Indonesians living in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) in central Java. The researchers distributed 600 questionnaires in two major shopping malls and several housing areas in the region, of which 467 were completed and returned, for an overall response rate of 77.8%.FindingsThe results indicated that the participants' intrinsic religiosity negatively impacted their ethical beliefs and was mediated by their idealistic ethical ideology. The present study also found that idealism had negative effects on three of the four dimensions of the consumer ethics scale (CES) (actively benefiting, passively benefiting and questionable behavior), while relativism had positive effects on two of the dimensions (passively benefiting and questionable behavior.Research limitations/implicationsOne limitation of the present study was that the analysis did not distinguish among the religions practiced by the respondents to the questionnaire.Originality/valueThis is one of the first few studies investigating the mediating role of ethical ideology in a religious society. This study contributes to the literature on these issues in theoretical and managerial terms by extending the Hunt-Vitell theory (1986) to the context of consumer ethics.
