The purpose of the article is to pose the problem of the universals of urban design and show schematic features of its solution in modeling and planning ensemble spaces of modern cities. An integral, correlatively universal model of urban design is yet to be created in the paradigm of sustainable development of “smart garden-cities” - as opposed to stochastic random development processes of urban territories following some quick-fix projects. Deductive and inductive methods are proposed as a basis. The general methodology is developed in the spectrum of transitions from generalized vision in the logic of universals, to particulars, revealing in the specifics of the unique. In a city that lives its own life, as a kind of faceted, multisided “Philosopher’s stone”, the universals are present everywhere and realized in the consistency of each and every element. Urban ensemble spaces that organically link the unique expressiveness of every historical chronotope gain their own algorithms in the process of urban design, supported by modeling and planning. The main results relating to the productivity in application of the universals as criteria for the estimation of architectural urban design were obtained in the design activities of the LLC “SynARChiya” and in the educational process in Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The article discusses the prospects of role-playing games in the educational process to increase students’ motivation and involvement, as well as the possibility of modern information technologies (primarily social networks) for constructing innovative forms of such games. The author’s format of the live-action role-playing game is presented. It was developed and tested at the Saratov State University. It involves the integration of numerous educational tasks into a single plot, within which each participant plays a role and communicates with other participants to complete tasks. The main interaction, plot development and group activities occur in dialogs, conversations and groups of social networks. This approach has shown its viability in teaching legal disciplines, and also has prospects for use in IT education.

The present article is dedicated to the problems of the organization and planning of scientific and research work of students of the University in English classes, gives grounds for the purposes and tasks of such competence-forming activity as part of the “Oriental studies” speciality program, the Russian State University for the Humanities. The article analyzes these competences, as well as forms and methods of their formation and development. The author presents demarcation of scientific knowledge and gives its characteristics: using most general qualities of a subject, objective reasoning, argumentativeness, results verifiability and reproducibility, consistency, practicality, capability to change, anticipating the future, making forecasts, methodological reflection. The author tried to analyze the reflexive component of scientific and research work of students in more detail. The article presents possible reflexive positions in the interaction between the teacher and the student and shows the dynamics of this interaction, i.e. gives a hierarchy of positions which the student can occupy in the educational process depending on how independent they are in their activity. The article also highlights the content of scientific and research work of students of the University in English classes on the basis of work with foreign texts in the macro-discourse for the “Oriental studies” speciality. The given foundations of the organization and content of scientific and research work of students have been regularly used in English language classes, as well as in optional forms of scientific activity. The students have shown good results and passion for this kind of work, which confirms the correctness of this approach.

Education like others spheres of life of modern society is in the state of dynamic changes. New formats of universities as well as their missions and roles in the social and economic development are actively discussed by professional environment. A number of external and internal factors that determine the depth and scale of transformation have effects on the development of the system of higher education. The system of higher education is under the influence of the system and institutional dynamics, which dictate the need for changes. The activity of universities as centers of education, science and culture is one of the most important bases of social progress. This role becomes especially important in XXI century, which is based on new knowledge and principles of technological development. First of all a university takes new features in the current conditions of globalization. The fundamental task that needs to be solved in order to achieve the goals of a modern University is the change of meanings, goals and content of education by active participation in the internationalization processes of the system of higher education and by introducing reforms in educational process. Of course new economic conditions (global market and information technologies) require modifications. It was stated that the commercialization of University innovations in Azerbaijan is a relatively new direction, since the country is just adopts the path of an innovative economy. In this regard the transformation of a scientific idea to a product or a service faces a number of difficulties. It was investigated the problem of commercialization of the results of scientific activities of higher educational institutions in Azerbaijan. For the first time Azerbaijan State University of Economics has implemented its rebranding in the educational system of the country in order to strengthen the market position of the educational institution and realization of innovative marketing strategies. The University’s strategic goals were defined under the UNEC brand, and the brand development was successfully continued with the support of the scientific and expert community. An integrative educational environment is created in Azerbaijan State University of Economics and such environment ensures the unity of the “education – science – innovation – commercialization – production system”. It is important to note that UNEC strategy also provides for clustering of economical education and so that it provides for increasing the integration pace of the University into the world scientific and educational space. The article presents the innovative infrastructure of Azerbaijan State University of Economics connected with its integration into the global scientific and educational environment. The paper studies the matters of the international cooperation issues of the University with universities of such countries as USA, EU, Russia, Turkey, which expands the academic potential of the University and increases its competitiveness. The article substantiates the conclusion that the globalization of higher education increases the importance of commercialization of higher education institutions in the field of education and science. The article reveals the successful experience of UNEC University in the creation and implementation of joint educational programs, expanding academic mobility, attracting foreign applicants, conducting joint researches and international scientific events in partnership with universities in the EU, Russia and Turkey.

Designing for slow cities and the need to design for future urban environments that include the more than human is a major priority for our times. This position paper problematizes the nature–culture divide in research about place and place-making, where place is understood to be about the sense of meaning we layer on locations in the physical world. It emphasizes the importance of narrative identity and place-making in the context of designing for urban environmental futures and creation of slow cities. We present an overview of a methodology to re-emplace place-making with animals in the context of slow cities and designing for the more than human. The work discussed here explores the use of narrative inquiry with some early narrative data (in the form of stories) about dog walks and those moments where our companion animals demonstrate agentic place-based meaning-making. The problem of understanding “what animals want” and how they make might ”make sense” of an experience is approached via a focus on a rich exemplar case in order to distinguish between emplotment (narrative meaning-making as self) and emplacement (narrative meaning-making as an aspect of place). This is used to create a framework for future evaluation with a view to revealing how “more than human stories”—just like our own familiar human stories—are also about agency and meaning in place. This recognition has import for ways in which we might approach decentring the human when we frame urban design activities.

As the central product of the BMBF-KLIMZUG-funded Joint Network and Research Project (JNRP) ‘dynaklim – Dynamic adaptation of regional planning and development processes to the effects of climate change in the Emscher-Lippe region (North Rhine Westphalia, Germany)’, the Roadmap 2020 ‘Regional Climate Adaptation’ has been developed by the various regional stakeholders and institutions containing specific regional scenarios, strategies and adaptation measures applicable throughout the region. This paper presents the method, elements and main results of this regional roadmap process by using the example of the thematic sub-roadmap ‘Water Sensitive Urban Design 2020’. With a focus on the process support tool ‘KlimaFLEX’, one of the main adaptation measures of the WSUD 2020 roadmap, typical challenges for integrated climate change adaptation like scattered knowledge, knowledge gaps and divided responsibilities but also potential solutions and promising chances for urban development and urban water management are discussed. With the roadmap and the related tool, the relevant stakeholders of the Emscher-Lippe region have jointly developed important prerequisites to integrate their knowledge, to clarify vulnerabilities, adaptation goals, responsibilities and interests, and to foresightedly coordinate measures, resources, priorities and schedules for an efficient joint urban planning, well-grounded decision-making in times of continued uncertainties and step-by-step implementation of adaptation measures from now on.

Cotidianamente se pode observar manifestações religiosas em diferentes locais e ocasiões – escolas, festas, pessoas trajando roupas e/ou símbolos, que expõem suas crenças. Ademais, temas referentes à religião, à religiosidade e ao pertencimento religioso têm sido, constantemente, debatidos em diferentes meios, como artigos em periódicos, programas televisivos, livros. Foi então que alguns questionamentos surgiram: como essa demonstração da fé se apresenta no espaço da ciência, ou seja, em uma universidade? Como as manifestações religiosas interferem no processo pedagógico? Para responder a estas indagações se realizou uma investigação, cujo objetivo é verificar como a demonstração de fé se apresenta dentro de um espaço laico e de natureza científica. A presente comunicação tem por finalidade apresentar algumas formas que os jovens expõem e vivenciam sua fé dentro de espaços universitários e propor debates interdisciplinares sobre a intolerância religiosa, que vem se manifestando nos espaços escolares. Utilizou-se a Universidade Estadual de Londrina - UEL como campo de pesquisa e delimitou-se a amostra aos estudantes participantes dos Grupos de Oração GOU – de vertente católica – e o Pocket – cujos membros pertencem às igrejas evangélicas - que se encontram, semanalmente, nos espaços da UEL. Como resultados preliminares se pode destacar que a religiosidade é presente na vida cotidiana dos jovens universitários, os quais promovem a conciliação entre religião e ciência.Palavras-chave: Universidade. Grupos de OraçãoAbstractDaily religious manifestations are observed in different places and occasions - schools, parties, people wearing clothes or symbols that expose their beliefs. Moreover, issues related to religion, religiosity and religious belonging have been constantly debated in different media, such as journal articles, television programs, books. Then some questions arose: how is this demonstration presented in an university environment? How do religious manifestations interfere with the educational process? To answer these questions an investigation was carried out whose purpose is to observe how faith demonstration is presented in a secular and scientific environment. This Communication aims to present some ways that expose youth and experience their faith within university environments and propose interdisciplinary debates on religious intolerance that has been manifested in school environments. State University of Londrina – UEL was used as a research field and limited our sample to participating GOU prayer’s students groups – the Catholic side - and the Pocket - whose members belong to evangelical churches - which meet weekly at UEL’s environments. As preliminary results, it is pointed out that religion is present in College students’ everyday, which promotes the reconciliation betweenreligion and science.Keywords: University.     The current research aimed at identifying the technological competencies required for intermediate and secondary school teachers to activate the use of interactive whiteboards in the classroom. To achieve this goal, the question of technological competencies for middle and high school teachers was answered to activate the use of the interactive whiteboard in the classroom. Based on the objective of the research and its questions، the researcher used the descriptive method for its relevance to the research. The sample included (40) teachers of the intermediate and secondary stage in Al-Fursan Private Schools for Girls in Riyadh who used the Smartboard in teaching. The researcher used the questionnaire to collect the necessary data to answer the study questions. The responses were analyzed using the following statistical methods: frequencies، percentages, arithmetic mean، Pearson coefficient to measure the validity of the internal consistency of the study instrument، and Vacronbach coefficient in order to measure instrument stability. The most important results of the research are that the members of the research sample have three design competencies needed to activate the use of the interactive whiteboard in the classroom to a high degree: the ability to design a lesson، master the techniques of evaluation and the ability to design activities، all using interactive whiteboard. The study also concluded that incentives were given to the teacher who uses interactive whiteboard in teaching, and also to design modern buildings for educational institutions in accordance with the requirements of presentation and use of the interactive whiteboard in the classroom. The study recommended the educating middle and secondary school teachers about the importance of using interactive whiteboard in the educational process at all levels، and also working on attracting highly qualified human cadres for the success of the interactive whiteboard.
