The paper delineates the study of a historic building renovation. It was built in 1900 and completed in 1939. Its both parts consist of different constructions. The old part was founded very deeply whereas the level of the younger part foundations was higher than the old one. After large floods, the walls started to crack, elements of the ceilings and roof under the extended part of the building slipped. It was expected that in the future a construction disaster would pose a serious probability of occurrence. In the study it was necessary to recognize the entire construction with a thorough investigation of the underground, old part of it and also the soil types density were examined. The main objective of the new research was to define the real reasons of the damage and to determine the possibility of repairing this building. The elaboration of the study results revealed a conception of supporting the walls of the building. The results indicated that the need to verify the reasons of the occurring damage in a complex and thorough way is tremendous, especially when a monument is concerned which was developed in stages in various historical periods.

AbstractThe availability of new research for IoT support and the human-centric perspective of industry 4.0 opens a gap to support operators in unleashing their creativity so they can provide improvements opportunities with IoT technology. This paper presents a case-study carried out in four Swedish manufacturing companies, where four different workshops were facilitated to support operators in the conceptualization of manufacturing improvements with IoT technologies. The empirical material gathered during these workshops has been analyzed in five different reflective sessions and discussed in light of previous research from industry 4.0, operators, and IoT support. Results indicate that operators can collaboratively create conceptual IoT solutions and that expressiveness in communicating their ideas and needs using IoT technology is more relevant than technical aspects and details of their proposed IoT solutions. This technological expressiveness is identified as a necessary skill to be cultivated on the shop floor and can potentially contribute to making a more effective and socially sustainable industrial landscape in the future.

The Palazzo del Podestà, situated in the centre of Mantua, has Medieval origins, but it is the result of many additions and reconstructions and it is now abandoned. In 2005 the Town Council commissioned the Politecnico of Milan a research on the real situation of the palaces, in order to determine the future possible uses of the buildings. The causes of the structural decays were investigated and furtherly studied by means of a comparison between archive records and diagnostic tests.

A significant amount of conventional power plants in the European power system is anticipated to be replaced by solar and wind power in the future. This may require alternative sources for inertia support. The purpose of the paper is to learn about the consequences on the frequency deviation after a fault in the European power system when more wind and solar are introduced and when wind is considered as a possible provider of inertia. This study quantifies the expected maximum requirement for additional inertia in the future European power system up to 2050. Furthermore, we investigated the possibility of wind power to meet this additional need by providing emulated inertia. The European power system of the EU-28 countries has been clustered to the five synchronous grids, UCTE, Nordic, UK, Baltic and Irish. The future European energy mix is simulated considering twelve different scenarios. Production units are dispatched according to their expected environmental impacts, which closely follow the minimum natural contribution of inertia, in descending order. The available capacity for all the types of production is considered the same as the installed. For all the simulated scenarios the worst case is examined, which means that a sudden disconnection of the largest production unit of the dispatched types is considered. Case study results reveal that, in most cases, additional inertia will be required but wind power may fully cover this need for up to 84% of all simulated horizons among all the scenarios on the UCTE grid, and for up to 98%, 86%, 99% and 86% on the Nordic, UK, Baltic and Irish grids, respectively.

This paper has as its theme compliance in accounting. For the development of the content, a methodology was adopted that aligned with what was proposed to achieve the objectives of this study. In this sense, the construction of the material aims to achieve results that confirm as hypotheses raised by an event or fact, whether this is present in daily life or not. Thus, the general objective of this research seeks to present an application of compliance in accounting. The specific objectives seek to define and conceptualize what is compliance, as well as highlight and present what is accounting and what is its role, and finally, highlight the relationship of the role of compliance in accounting. Finally, the present work leaves the topic open, proposing that in the future a new research is carried out, with an emphasis on contextualizing the themes here. Together with this new research, the objective is to conduct a case study, for which a study is proposed evaluating the application of compliance in the accounting of a company.

The paper 'Zoom: a case-study' explores the process of the staging of a hybrid performance that took place in September 2021 in Malta as a response to the Covid scenario. This production was watched online and live, with actors performing, using both realities.  The project also explores the notion of space, whether it is the virtual, as opposed to the 'real', and the different spatial dynamics that this performance occurred in. In fact, the performance happened in two 'real' spaces, connected one to the other through an intricate use of screens and cameras, in such a way that whichever way the audience decided to watch the performance in, they could still understand the narrative of the play. The paper is analysed by juxtaposing literature on hybridity against the experiences of the different stakeholders involved in this production, namely, the co-producers, the director (the researcher of this paper), the technical director, the actors and members of the audience, with the aim of analysing and evaluating the dynamics of the production as a model of good practice and discern whether it can provide a framework to work in for the restricted reality that the local industry is in currently, as well as for the future.

Abstract. Delay discounting (DD) is the process of devaluing results that happen in the future. With this review, we intend to identify specificities in the processes of DD in impulsive behavior. Studies were retrieved from multiple literature databases, through rigorous criteria (we included systematic reviews and empirical studies with adult human subjects), following the procedures of the Cochrane Collaboration initiative. Of the 174 documents obtained, 19 were considered eligible for inclusion and were retained for in-depth analysis. In addition, 13 studies from the manual search were included. Thus, a total of 32 studies were selected for review. The objectives/hypotheses, results, and the main conclusion(s) were extracted from each study. Results show that people with pronounced traits of impulsivity discount rewards more markedly, that is, they prefer immediate rewards, though of less value, or postponed losses, even though they worsen in the future. Taken together, the existing data suggest the importance of inserting DD as a tool for initial assessment in conjunction with measures of addiction and stress level, as well as the consideration of new therapies.

This paper focuses on gendered mobilities of highly skilled researchers working abroad. It is based on an empirical qualitative study that explored the mobility aspirations of Austrian scientists who were working in the United States at the time they were interviewed. Supported by a case study, the paper demonstrates how a qualitative research strategy including graphic drawings sketched by the interviewed persons can help us gain a better understanding of the gendered importance of social relations for the future mobility aspirations of scientists working abroad.
