Now culture of manage safety, health and wellbeing in the mining industry needs a scientifically sound new approach to the training process for professionals at all levels. Insufficient qualification of employees and managers in occupational safety, health and wellbeing has a negative impact on the occupational injury rate, and the current occupational safety, health and wellbeing management system does not allow to instill in employees compliance with the requirements for their own safety. To improve the quality of employees training in safe work practices and to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing in processes, a new training process has been developed and implemented based on a video-based continuous learning system. The innovation will make it possible to manage the human factor by improving employees competence, increasing the efficiency of the system OSH management, taking prompt corrective action, reducing injury rates and retaining human resources.

Technogenic factors that have a negative effect on the environment and humans are analyzed. The integrated effect of negative impact on the environment aggravated by the number of factors is revealed. These factors include the following: gorges, river valleys and mountain landscapes. From the previously conducted studies it was concluded that the main source of negative effects on living organisms is the mineralized dust. The actual task of the study is determined, which consists in detailing the mechanisms and methods of the mineralized dust formation for improving the methods of minimizing its formation. Using the example of an open pit development of a dolomite deposit the relationship is established between the indicators of atmospheric dusting by the products of rock technological crushing and grinding. Dependence is established related to the dust emission intensity on the air flow velocity and dust concentration. It is proved that all the dust-like products formed as the result of mining and processing of the mineral raw materials have dimensions that allow them to move with the help of air masses. The results of the experiments on solving the problem of reducing dust by minimizing the output of mobile dust classes are presented (studies of the granulometric composition of rocks of various types with differentiation by type of the dust source, the mechanism of pollution using trapping screens and the development of directions for minimizing dusting of the atmosphere of the quarry and the surrounding area). The measures to reduce dust formation are proposed. The model for assessing the potential of environmental pollution by gas and dust products is developed. The proposed measures and the developed model will allow to minimize the effect of mining production on the environment of the region and the health of the workers of the mining enterprise and the residents of the region. The results obtained may be in demand when improving existing and developing new methods for improving occupational safety in the mining industry.

Over the past 10 years, the mining industry of Russia has seen a greater than three-fold decrease in injury rates, thanks to the successful implementation of innovative labor safety technologies. Despite this, injury levels remain unacceptably high compared to the leading mining countries, which results in increased mining costs. For the mining areas of the Arctic Zone—unlike other regions located in areas with a more favorable climate—the injury rates are influenced not only by the underground labor conditions, but also by the adverse environmental factors. For the Russian Arctic zone, the overall injury risk is proposed to be calculated as the combined impact of occupational and background risk. In this article, we have performed correlation analysis of the overall injury risks in regions of the Arctic zone and regions with favorable climate conditions. Using the Kirov branch of “Apatit”, Joint-stock company (JSC) as an example, we have calculated the risks related specifically to occupational injury rates. We have constructed the relative injury risks and their changes over time and have developed a “basic injury rate matrix” that makes it possible to visualize the results of the comparative analysis of the injury rates on the company’s production sites and to determine priority avenues for improving the occupational safety and lowering the injury rates.

The aim of the study. To conduct a comparative analysis of the indicators of industrial injuries in Karaganda region for 2015-2019. Methods. The article analyzes the data on industrial injuries in Karaganda region for 2015-2019 years by the method of descriptive statistics, as well as the material consequences of accidents. Results. In Karaganda region, the number of victims in accidents related to labor activity per 100 thousand adult populations is 2.5 times, and the number of deaths is 2.2 times higher than the national indicator. Over the 5-year period, there has been a slight decrease in the number of work-related fatalities from 9.9% in 2015 to 9% for 2019. At the same time, there was a 1.2-fold increase in material costs. Conclusions. In Karaganda region for 2015-2019, the number of people injured at work decreased. Nevertheless, the level of industrial injuries remains quite high, indicating the need to improve the procedure of certification of production facilities on working conditions, as well as the regulatory framework on compliance with working conditions in the mining industry. The article describes the concept of «zero injury», within the framework of which the current level of injury rate in the coal industry is analyzed, the causes of juries are given, and also, the problem of personnel qualification is raised. On the example of JSC «SUEK-Kuzbass», the analysis of industrial injury rate is presented. There are three key causes of injury: technical, systemic, and human factors. Qualitative dependence of the level of injury rate on time is given in the implementation of preventive measures — technical, systemic, and aimed at the formation of a safety culture, proposed by the International Labor Organization as a hypothesis confirmed at the number of enterprises in the mining industry, construction, and transport. Detailed analysis is conducted on such factors as profession, age and experience of the victims, the time elapsed after the start of the shift until the injury at work, as well as the competence of employees in safety matters. According to the analysis over the past three years, the most traumatic professions are: drifter, engineering and technical worker, underground miner, electrical fitter (locksmith), face miner, mining operator and driver. The most frequent injuries occurred with the employees with work experience of up to a year, from 5 to 10 years, and over 15 years. By age groups, the largest number of injuries was recorded for the employees aged from 31 to 35 years, which roughly corresponds to 5–10 years of work experience. Considering such a factor as the time from the beginning of a work shift to injury, it shall be noted that the greatest number of injuries occurs at the beginning of the shift and in the period 4–7 hours from the beginning of the shift. In accordance with GOST R ISO 45001—2020, the conducted analysis is an element of risk assessment and opportunities for further improvement of training programs for the employees in the field of occupational safety.

Mining industry has long development history and is among the most developed industry contributed to the economy of the country. Working in the sector is also considered as heavy and hazardous duty. The Law on Occupational Safety and Hygiene was passed and enacted in 2016, and different sub - law guiding documents were developed to regulate about working environment and risk control solution required for all industries especially for risky industry like mining. However, implementation and enforcement of Law was still inadequte. This review report aims to discuss about current situation of health and safety issues among the sector and to propose some possible solutions. Reults show that number of accidents and number of deaths was increasing. Prevalence of silicosis and hearing imparement among workers in the sector was among top ranking industries. It was recommended that monitoring, supervision and enforcement should be invested properly. Different technologies and innovations should also be applied on reducing the risk of occupational injury and diseases.

This chapter describes occupational injuries and their prevention. It describes in detail the causes of injuries and epidemiology of injuries. Occupational injuries are caused by acute exposure in the workplace to safety hazards, such as mechanical energy, electricity, chemicals, and ionizing radiation, or from the sudden lack of essential agents, such as oxygen or heat. This chapter describes the nature and the magnitude of occupational injuries in the United States. It provides data on risk of injuries in different occupations and industries. Finally, it discusses prevention of injuries, using a hierarchical approach to occupational injury control.

Workers in the temporary staffing industry face hazardous working conditions and have a high risk of occupational injury. This project brought together local workers’ centers and university investigators to build a corps of Occupational Health Promoters (OHPs) and to test a survey tool and recruitment methods to identify hazards and raise awareness among workers employed by temporary staffing companies. OHPs interviewed ninety-eight workers employed by thirty-three temporary agencies and forty-nine client companies, working mainly in shipping and packing, manufacturing, and warehousing sectors. Surveys identified workplace hazards. OHPs reported two companies to OSHA, resulting in several citations. Partners reported greater understanding of occupational safety and health challenges for temporary workers and continue to engage in training, peer education, and coalition building.

This paper proposes an algorithm for synthesizing a neural network (NN) structure to analyze complex structured, low entropy, ocular fundus images, characterized by iterative tuning of the adaptive model’s solver modules. This algorithm will assist in synthesizing models of NNs that meet the predetermined characteristics of the classification quality. The relevance of automating the process of ocular diagnostics of fundus pathologies is due to the need to develop domestic medical decision-making systems. Because of using the developed algorithm, the NN structure is synthesized, which will include two solver modules, and is intended to classify the dual-alternative information. Automated hybrid NN structures for intelligent segmentation of complex structured, low entropy, retinal images should provide increased efficiency of ocular diagnostics of fundus pathologies, reduce the burden on specialists, and decrease the negative impact of the human factor in diagnosis.
