AbstractResearch on AI tends to analytically separate technical and social issues, viewing AI first as a technical object that only later, after it has been implemented, may have social consequences. This commentary paper discusses how some of the challenges of AI research relate to the gap between technological and social analyses, and it proposes steps ahead for how to practically achieve prosperous collaborations for future AI research. The discussion draws upon three examples to illustrate the analytical gap in different phases of the development of AI systems. Attending to the planning phase, the first example highlights the risk of oversimplifying the task for an AI system by not incorporating a social analysis at the outset of the development. The second example illuminates the issue of system acceptance, where the paper elaborates on why acceptance is multifaceted and need not be approached as merely a technical problem. With the third example, the paper notes that AI systems may change a practice, suggesting that a continuous analysis of such changes is necessary for projects to maintain relevance as well as to consider the broader impact of the developed technology. The paper argues that systematic and substantial social analyses should be integral to AI development. Exploring the connections between an AI’s technical design and its social implications is key to ensuring feasible and sustainable AI systems that benefit society. The paper calls for further multi-disciplinary research initiatives that explore new ways to close the analytical gap between technical and social approaches to AI.

Salah satu unsur penting dalam pelayanan gereja yang terabaikan adalah peran sosial gereja untuk mewujudkan kesejahteraan. Padahal warga jemaat berhadapan dengan berbagai isu sosial. Salah satu yang cukup krusial adalah kemiskinan. Dalam upaya merevitalisasi pelayanan gereja, salah satu yang perlu diwujudkan adalah integrasi antara kepedulian sosial dan pelayanan gereja. Artikel ini akan menjelaskan bahwa gereja memiliki panggilan dan tanggung jawab sosial. Fondasi bagi gagasan ini adalah karakteristik pelayanan Yesus yang termuat dalam Lukas 4:18-19, yang merupakan kutipan dari Yesaya 61:1-2; 58:6. Berdasarkan penggunaan Yesaya 61:1-2 yang dikombinasikan dengan Yesaya 58:6, artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa penulis Injil Ketiga memodifikasi kutipan tersebut untuk memperkuat karakteristik sosial dalam pelayanan Yesus. Dimensi sosial pelayanan Yesus merupakan landasan penting untuk membangun pelayanan gerejawi yang memiliki kesadaran sosial untuk membentuk kehidupan umat secara menyeluruh. Dalam menguraikan gagasannya, artikel ini akan menerapkan metode kualitatif yang berorientasi pada studi literatur dan analisis hermeneutika. Adapun pendekatan hermeneutika yang akan diterapkan berfokus pada pembacaan Injil sebagai biografi Yunani-Romawi. Prinsip-prinsip yang umum digunakan dalam metode kritik naratif juga akan diterapkan. Karena adanya kutipan dari Kitab Yesaya, pendekatan hermenutika yang digunakan juga akan menganalisis cara penulis Injil Ketiga menggunakan teks Yesaya tersebut. Artikel ini akan berfokus pada tiga aspek, yaitu karakteristik sosial Injil Ketiga, karakteristik sosial pelayanan Yesus berdasarkan Lukas 4:18-19, dan implikasi dimensi sosial pelayanan Yesus bagi upaya revitalisasi pelayanan gereja. One important element that neglected in church ministry is the social responsibility of the church in realizing the well-being of the community. Whereas the congregation is dealing with various social issues. One that is quite crucial is poverty. In an effort to revitalize church ministry, one that needs to be realized is the integration of social care and church ministry. This article will explain that the church has social calling and responsibility. The foundation for this idea is the characteristics of Jesus' ministry conveyed by Luke 4:18-19, which is a quotation from Isaiah 61:1-2; 58:6. Based on the use of Isaiah 61:1-2 combined with Isaiah 58:6, this article shows that the writer of the Third Gospel modified the quotation to strengthen social characteristics in Jesus' ministry. The social dimension of Jesus' ministry is an important foundation for building church ministries that have social awareness to shape the lives of believers holistically. This article will apply qualitative methods that focus on literary study and hermeneutical analysis. The hermeneutical approach applied here focuses on reading the Gospels as Greco-Roman biography. The principles commonly used in narrative criticism will also be applied. Because of the quotation from the Book of Isaiah, this article will also analyze the way the writer of the Third Gospel used the text of Isaiah. This article will focus on three aspects, namely the social characteristics of the Third Gospel, the social characteristics of Jesus' ministry based on Luke 4: 18-19, and the implications of the social dimension of Jesus' ministry for revitalizing church ministry.

Despite the lack of consensus in existing literature regarding the societal functions of advertising, brands have been increasingly incorporating aspects of their stance on key social issues and/or contributions to societal wellbeing, into advertising messages. However, notable failures of contemporary societal advertising campaigns indicate that their effectiveness in achieving marketing objectives and advancing social causes remains ambiguous. To appraise the commercial and social consequences of societal advertising, the present research proceeds to examine its interrelationship with the social value system and conceptual differences with similar concepts. Although advertising is able to reflect and also reinforce a subset of existing social values, effective contribution to positive social change is likely to necessitate synergies between elements of the entire marketing process. Overall, given its risks and limitations, there is not sufficient evidence to posit that the practice of societal advertising is always for the best interest of business and society.

Many students express a desire to apply their technical engineering skills to produce positive societal impacts, and although sustainability frameworks do take this into consideration in traditional engineering curricula, there are relatively few avenues for students to work on real global social issues during their undergraduate studies. This paper describes a new interdisciplinary course developed at UBC on the use of engineering skills to solve humanitarian challenges.The course is composed of case-study analyses, interactive activities and simulations, group discussions and seminars, and a technical design project completed in partnership with an NGO or charity working on a particular humanitarian challenge. The rationale and design of the course and its deliverables, as well as student feedback on this first iteration of this course are presented.

In this chapter, we unpack intersectionality as an analytical framework. First, we cite Black Lives Matter as an impetus for discussing intersectionality’s current traction. Second, we review the genealogy of “intersectionality” beginning with Kimberlé Crenshaw’s formulation, which brought a Black Studies provocation into legal discourse in order to challenge existing antidiscrimination doctrine and single-axis theorizing. The third, and most central, task of the chapter is our account of intersectionality’s utility for social analysis. We examine some of the issues raised by the metaphor of the intersection and some of the debates surrounding the concept, such as the tension between fragmenting and universalizing perspectives mediated by the notion of “strategic essentialism.” Fourth, we review how education researchers have explained race and gender subordination in education since Ladson-Billings and Tate’s Teachers College Record article. We conclude with some remarks concerning future research on intersectionality.

The phenomenon of the „Third Wave", which is a reborn of civic activity among a youth and social inclusion of young Poles is widely descripted from the historical perspective. In the beginning the historical overview focuses on the "First Wave", - the period between 1945 and 1989, where the involvement of young people in social and political activities was mainly confrontational. The very first thought we have when it comes to the political and social activities of the emerging generation in post-war Poland are not a pro-systemic but anti-systemic activities. First of all the year 1968 - identified as the beginning of the large-scale opposition movement of the People's Republic of Poland. The "Second Wave" is the generation crossing a borderline of 1989 as a children and youth. In general, it can be assumed that they were born between 1970 and 1985. The youngsters in this Wave were openly not-interested in the politics (ex. the record breaking low rate of participation in elections); disappointed with III RP, frustrated with a great social problems (unemployment, scandals on a large scale) were rather focused on personal and social issues on a micro scale (WOŚP, partys' youth wings). The "Third Wave"- the period we are witnessing, is a dawn of youth activity. We are just at the beginning of the rising curve, which shows the a rise of active civic attitude among young people. The phenomenon of this rebirth, inclusion, is the result of several factors, which are a subject of article are presented in detail. We are witnessing a great increase in the activity of young people, the demonstration of their power, the efficiency, and the influence. Its direction and force depend strongly on current trends, popularity and communication skills. The young Poles and theirs mood are the main factors which are choosing the members of The Polish Parliament, creating a demand for products and creating cultural phenomena. The Internet has become a land of communication and organization of young people's activities. In the article, the reader will find detailed reconstructions of the most important and popular activities of young Poles, the "Third Wave", their interpretation and explanations.

The article presents the problem of describing the theoretical basis for inference (decision-making) in the multi-valued logic. A significant part of the article concerns the descrip-tion of the basis for the development of the logic k-value, where k = 2, 3, 4. In the work, as a basis for the development of multivalent logics, the interval suitability for two-valued logic has been taken. This article analyses and interprets multiple links and interconnections among philosophy, economics, management as well as cognitive, cultural, social, political and educational sciences. Those links and interconnections are investigated in the frames of four methodological paradigms. The first paradigm connects counting, managing and reflecting. The second paradigm is a certain combination of discovering, thinking and solving. The third paradigm binds acting as overcoming, choosing and alternating. Finally, the fourth one relates acts of criticism, creation and construction. This issue is divided into four sections corresponding to the above-mentioned paradigms. This article, in turn, gives concise reviews and interpretations of articles presented in each of the aforementioned sections. Those reviews and interpretations link and bring together different topics of diverse disciplines, such as econometric counting, participation of youth in family business, transformation of classical concept of causality, solving logical paradoxes, trying to overcome various forms of nihilism, seeking alternatives to consumerism, searching for social equality, safety, security and inclusion.

Rosenau (1993) observes that proponents of postmodernism claim to relinquish all attempts to create new knowledge in a systematic fashion, but project an anti–rule fashion of discuss. This perspective being expounded by postmodernists have profound implication in humanities and social science scholarship especially in its contention that there are limits and limitations of modern reason that are inherent in the forms and types of reasoning and social analysis that has characterized society and the modern. But does this perspective have any merit and most especially for us in the third world. This is the angle this study shall take and we hope at the end, we should have been able to render a critical appraisal of this approach in the broader Humanities disciplines.

“Sustainability” term has not only become increasingly important globally for individual companies, but also become important for whole supply chains. The selection of supplier is a significant decision for the sustainability of supply chains. Literature review revealed that supplier selection is made traditionally based on economic attributes which are insufficient for sustainability of supply chains as sustainability requires taking economic, environmental, and social issues into account. For this purpose, this paper proposes determining the green supplier selection attributes and then developing a methodology for assessment and ranking of green suppliers based on determined attributes. The first contribution of this study is to propose a novel method, which is FROV (fuzzy extension of range of value) to literature. The latter is to utilize fuzzy extension of preference selection index (FPSI) to identify the weights of attributes. The third is to develop a novel fuzzy multiattribute decision-making model consisting of FPSI and FROV to determine the best supplier for a Turkish textile company.
