The Government through the National Railway Master Plan has launched the development of the Airport Railway Network and Services to facilitate passenger mobility, one of which is the construction of the Adi Soemarmo Airport train. In April 2017 a groundbreaking project for the development of the Adi Soemarmo Airport, Boyolali District by the President of the Republic of Indonesia was scheduled to be operational in 2019. This study uses a discrete choice model to express the opportunities of each passenger to use the airport train. The research instruments were prepared using predictor variables developed from service dimensions according to Gaspers. The sample used was 200 respondents with random sampling techniques. The data collected is processed using a binary logical regression model because the response variable is in the form of a dichotomy. The results showed the accuracy of the train schedule and affordability of train fares affect the willingness to use airport trains.

China Rail Express (CRE) is the international container train line that runs between China and Europe. Since the implementation of China’s Belt and Road initiative, CRE has developed rapidly. As most CRE trains travel directly from source to destination without load consolidation, CRE faces issues such as an insufficient cargo supply, a low load factor, and a low profit margin. To address these problems, we analyzed the selection of potential consolidation centers and the optimization of consolidation routes to these centers from the perspective of complex network evolution. First, we constructed rules for generation and evolution of the complex network. Next, we generated logistics connection topology networks for CRE from 2013 to 2017 using those rules. We then optimized the consolidation routes based on the network structures formed from those rules. Chongqing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Shenyang, Lanzhou, Urumqi, and Tianjin were selected as potential consolidation centers. We conclude with a sensitivity analyses and a discussion of management implications for CRE.

Network efficiency analysis becomes important in railways in order to contribute towards improving the safety and capacity of the rail network, making rail travel more attractive for passengers, and improving industry practice and informing policy development. However, a physical railway network structure is a complicated system, and the operation, maintenance, and management of such a network is a difficult task which may be affected by many influential factors. By using efficiency analysis technology for a railway network, combining physical structure with operation functions can help railway industry to optimize the railway network while improving its efficiency and reliability. This paper presents a new methodology based on complex network principles that combines the physical railway structure with railway operation strategy for a railway network efficiency analysis. In this method, two network models of railway physical and train flow networks are developed for the identification of key stations in the railway network based on network efficiency contribution in which the terms of degree, strength, betweenness, clustering coefficient, and a comprehensive factor are taken into consideration. Once the key stations have been identified and analysed, the railway network efficiency is then studied on the basis of selective and random modes of the station failures. A case study is presented in this paper to demonstrate the application of the proposed methodology. The results show that the identified key stations in the railway network play an important role in improving the overall railway network efficiency, which can provide useful information to railway designers, engineers, operators and maintainers to operate and maintain railway network effectively and efficiently.

This article analyses the complex relationships between the elected parliament and the government.Firstly, effective political participation of the constituency in the election of its parliamentary representatives is limited because of the pre-selection of the candidates by the parties themselves. Secondly, the freedom of the parliament is restricted by the complex network of pressures and counterpressures between legislature and executive. Parliament has recently tried to regain some of its influence by organising special parliamentary inquiry committees and by resorting to professional help for assistance in its legislative work . However, the growing professionalisation might become yet another restriction to the parliamentarians' freedom of political action. Thirdly, parliamentary legislative power is undermined by the subtile way governmental decision making ends in legislation.The mass media seem increasingly unable to translate this complexity to the public. As a result the public becomes more and more indifferent to the functioning of the system, which could endanger the genuine democratic influence of the people in the parliamentary system.

With the intensive development of China’s high-speed railway network and intercity railway network, the construction of the large-diameter shield tunnels and cross-passages is gradually increasing. The construction of large diameter shield tunnels and the excavation of cross-passages puts forward higher requirements for the stability and safety of segment structure. Based on the Wangjing tunnel project, this paper studies the segment displacement and mechanical response of the shield tunnel with a diameter of 10.5 m in the process of shield construction and cross-passage construction. The results show that during the construction of large diameter shield tunnels, the vault and invert produce inward displacement, the invert uplift usually is more severe than the vault settlement, and the arch waist on both sides produces outward displacement. Near the segment K (capping block), the mechanical performance of the segment is close to that of the hinge or chain rod, which can only effectively transmit the axial force but cannot resist the bending moment and shear force. During construction of the cross-passage, the maximum deformation and stress of shield tunnel segment are symmetrically located at the interface of the main tunnel and cross-passage. The upper and lower edges of the segment at the interface tend to change from compression to tension. At the same time, the steel bars on the inside and outside of the segment vault and the arch waist change from compressive stress to tensile stress, which can easily lead to segment damage, so these positions can be reinforced by erecting section steel frames before construction.

We study the structural properties of Pakistan railway network (PRN), where railway stations are considered as nodes while edges are represented by trains directly linking two stations. The network displays small world properties and is assortative in nature. Based on betweenness and closeness centralities of the nodes, the most important cities are identified with respect to connectivity as this could help in identifying the potential congestion points in the network.
