A Reinterpretation of the ‘Attitude’ Approach to Transport-Mode Choice and an Exploratory Empirical Test

A theory of cognitive structure is presented which is potentially capable of providing a conceptual framework for the study of transport behaviour, and by making use of this theory and the models derived from it, problematic areas in attitude and attribute research in transportation are discussed. An exploratory empirical study is described which successfully tests some of the relationships inherent in the theory in a transport context. Significant correlations were observed between overall attitude towards use of a travel mode and the products of evaluation and belief strength summed over a short series of perceived outcomes of use of that mode. The content, strength, and associated evaluations of salient beliefs about use of a travel mode were monitored during a period of change in the conditions of the service. Predictable changes in belief structure were observed, demonstrating the sensitivity of the techniques used.

The authors argue that counseling psychologists will benefit from the development of conceptual frameworks that focus attention and consideration on the moral dimensions of psychotherapeutic practice. The authors present such a conceptualization with respect to actual psychotherapeutic conversations, and they provide an empirical illustration of how this conceptual framework illuminates the moral dimension of such conversations. The authors also briefly explore possibilities for further conceptual and empirical study of moral aspects of counseling and psychotherapy.

The author aims to present fundamentals of the psychological adaptation conception researching the population that were born and live in ecologically unfavourable living environment. Psychological adaptation is assumed to be a systemic characteristic of the man-living environment (natural and social) system. The empirical study revealed common but not equal in intensity decrease of psychological adaptation indices performed by subjects who were born and live in Transbaikal Region. The author believes that the discovered decrease is the consequence of the realized special – that of the strategy of minimizing adaptation.

This paper employs a measurement of the service quality of educational Websites as perceived by students, following a conceptual model developed by Santos (2003).  Perceived service quality of educational Websites is conceptualized as dependent on the following variables—ease of use, content, reliability, privacy, and interaction. An empirical test with university students validates the overall model.  As for the individual independent variables, all of them except privacy are found to have a significant effect on perceived service quality.

How do evaluators using collaborative approaches to evaluation (CAE) define success? This is the core question being asked in a further analysis of data from our previous work ( Cousins, Whitmore, & Shulha, 2013 ; Shulha et al., 2016) that developed a set of evidence-based principles to guide collaborative evaluation practice. Probing data from 320 responses to our (2012) survey, we examined what respondents considered “highly successful” and “less successful than hoped” in their collaborative evaluation projects. The results revealed that evaluation use, relationships, and information needs are key factors. We propose a conceptual framework as an aid to thinking about success in CAE.Comment les évaluateurs utilisant des approches collaboratives à l’évaluation définissent-ils le succès? Voici la question de base posée dans une analyse plus poussée de données tirées de travaux précédents (Cousins, Whitmore et Shulha, 2013; Shulha et al., 2016) qui ont permis d’élaborer un ensemble de principes scientifi quement fondés visant à orienter la pratique de l’évaluation collaborative. En examinant les données de 320 réponses à notre sondage (de 2012), nous nous sommes penchés sur ce que nos répondants ont jugé être des projets d’évaluation collaborative « très réussis » et « moins réussis qu’espéré ». Les résultats ont révélé que l’utilisation de l’évaluation, les relations et les besoins en information sont des facteurs clés. Nous proposons un cadre conceptuel pour penser le succès en matière d’approche collaborative en évaluation.

I report an empirical study deriving from a Gestalt-Interactionist approach to metaphor. Both the type of figurative expression (metaphor or simile) and the form of the expression (A is B or B is A) were manipulated in a factorial design. Subjects were asked to evaluate a given figurative expression both with regard to complexity and interest, and in terms of the degree of imageability of the tenor and the vehicle. As hypothesized, the design factors interacted in their influence on these ratings. Specifically, both the metaphor in standardform and the simile in reversed form received relatively higher ratings in degree of interest aroused and degree of complexity, while receiving relatively lower ratings in degree of vehicle imageability.
