The subject of this article is an analysis of the film Killing Auntie (Zabicie ciotki, 1984) by Grzegorz Krolikiewicz. The author reconstructs the history of the film’s making, recalls the memories of actor Robert Herubin, cinematographer Krzysztof Ptak, and director Grzegorz Krolikiewicz. The author reads Killing Auntie through the prism of Andrzej Bursa’s prose, refers to the heritage of surrealism and the way the director refers to it. According to the author it is important to answer the question of whether Killing Auntie is a specific kind of performance. The article concludes with a reflection on the moral dimension of Killing Auntie and an attempt to answer the questions: did the murder in Killing Auntie really happen and could any of us commit it?

I publish this essay to honour the memory of Sir John McGrath. I sat with Sir John for a number of years, first in the Court of Appeal and then in the Supreme Court. Professional respect soon turned into friendship. While we did not always agree, I always respected his views. They were carefully considered and fully researched. John gave detailed consideration to the opinions of others but was very much his own man when it came to his ultimate conclusion. His innate caution in departing from the well-trodden path was a valuable contribution in a final appellate court. Stability is an important feature of any legal system. And John provided that quality, but not at the expense of innovation when that was clearly desirable and could be achieved in a principled way. John's passing, so soon after his retirement, was a great loss, not only to his wife and family, but also to his many friends and colleagues, both in the law and beyond.

This chapter tracks the evolution of the word and concept of ‘corruption’. Having explored personal, institutional and systemic types of corruption, the next two sections outline key influences on pre-modern ways of thinking about it, highlighting the role of religion and civic humanism or the ‘republican tradition’. These influences put different emphases on personal, institutional, and systemic corruption, even if they shared a common moral purpose. Focus on that moral dimension leads to a discussion about the relationship between corruption and sexual immorality, and between anti-corruption and campaigns for the reformation of manners. The second half of the chapter focuses on the legal framework to show changes in the legal definitions of corruption, which increasingly defined corruption in terms of various forms of monetary forms of crime.

Hardly any problem in contemporary theological-moral discourse causes such turbulence as the searching, reflection, and demarcation of the boundaries between good and evil in human acting. A fundamental problem is a criterion or a reference point according to which a person could reliably determine what is good and evil. Divergent theological views in the theological-moral dimension seem to have caused the clear boundaries between good and evil to disappear. Therefore, the crucial question is whether there is still a universal criterion for theological evaluation of a human act, as the situation in theological-moral discourse resembles an areopagus of opinions that have no common point in distinguishing between good and evil. This reflection examines the possibility if the Thomistic ethical analysis of a human act, together with the principle of double effect, may be a reference point for the demarcation of these boundaries.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE:The objective of the study is to identify key features of the concept of analysing humanitarianism and, eventually, humanity as an important sociogenic factor and its meaning for contemporary education. RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: This work focuses on recognizing the conceptual core in the humanist tradition through the analysis of the ancient and Renaissance idea of the study of humanitarianism  that dominated in the educational paradigm in the period of the Renaissance humanism and in the development of Jesuit education. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The study indicates interpretative inconsistency in the concept of modern humanism. Trying to explain what is unclear in the humanistic discourse, the author will, first of all, focus on the origin of the Renaissance humanism with its outdated concept of the study of humanitarianism, and then he will present the analysis of the concept of the original, ancient understanding of the study of humanitarianism in the inspiring text of the Renaissance humanistic movement Pro Archia Poeta Oration by Cicero. Finally, the author presents the connection between the analysis of humanitarianism and the Renaissance educational system of Societas Jesu, as well as the perspectives of this tradition and its influence on the present time. RESEARCH RESULTS: In the research, the author identified the ancient and Renaissance concept of studying humanitatis as a key sociogenic factor necessary for the morphogenesis of cultural identity. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS: Humanistic studies, as a lifelong process of cultivating cura personalis according to Jesuit principles, are an important condition for upgrading humanity which is characterized by the fulfillment of the moral dimension of an individual integrated with social and cultural processes of the society. The study indicates the meaning of the epideictic approach to analysing humanitarianism in its function of articulating the cultural identity of the polis.

The presented analysis focuses on the moral dimension of the teaching profession, which encompasses the moral competence of its representatives. This dimension determines, at least to some extent, the quality of services rendered by teachers to other people as part of their professional activity. Thus, the research and analyses undertaken with regard to this area of scientific exploration are of importance for the discipline of educational research. The aim of the paper is an attempt at making an introduction to the manners of understanding the term: teacher’s moral competences. Such competences can be placed among a number of competencies a teacher should display. The article was prepared based on an analysis of the literature dealing with the subject of the research. The analysis was used to explicate the category, which, similarly to the category of competencies as such, has turned out to be defined in an ambiguous way. The researchers of the issue of teachers’ moral competences have ascribed various meanings and scope to this term, and have differed in indicating its significance and importance for the professional activity undertaken. This is conducive neither to an attempt at developing a clear definition of this term nor to defining its constituent elements more precisely. The analysis of this category implies the need for paying closer attention to teachers’ moral competences, both in the theoretical and practical contexts, and to conduct intensified research on these competences, enriching thereby the scientific achievements made so far in the field referring to the moral dimension of the work performed by the representatives of this social and professional category, i.e., teachers.

"In today’s society, gender identity is redefined. This identity is now disconnected from biological sex and redefined as a cultural phenomenon. The implications are diverse not only from an anthropological point of view but also from a moral stand. As gender becomes a fluid concept, the war between the traditional point of view and the revisionist/progressist one is inevitable. This research reviews how in the last centuries society moved from Theism to Post-Theism and from Post-Theism to Post-Humanism. These shifts reflect a tendency of moral change not only in terms of human identity but also of human sexuality. In this paper, it is argued that a moral dimension is vital for a definition of gender identity. The theological assessment of this topic starts the epistemic endeavor analyzing the biblical foundation of cisgender and sexual dimorphism. In the nature vs. nurture paradigm a thorough analysis of the biblical account of creation and fall of man, attest to the fact that, regardless of how man is born, God’s redemption outlines anthropology, hamartiology, and soteriology. At the practical social level, the struggle for unity in diversity varies from a desideratum to a utopian reality. Nevertheless, the concept of diversity cannot be emptied of its moral dimension. From the Biblical point of view, the solution to this war on sexual identity is redemption, while from the secular point of view the solution to this war is relativism."

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, people have been eager to learn what factors, and especially what public health policies, cause infection rates to wax and wane. But figuring out conclusively what causes what is difficult in complex systems with nonlinear dynamics, such as pandemics. We review some of the challenges that scientists have faced in answering quantitative causal questions during the Covid-19 pandemic, and suggest that these challenges are a reason to augment the moral dimension of conversations about causal inference. We take a lesson from Martha Nussbaum—who cautions us not to think we have just one question on our hands when we have at least two—and apply it to modeling for causal inference in the context of cost-benefit analysis.

Based on the activities of the philosophical and legal club "Moral Dimension of Law," the author attempts to comprehend the reasons for the long-term charisma of this open, self-governing academic and educational organization operating on the basis of the university department of philosophy and sociology. The paper substantiates the idea that it is the ethical character, the corresponding motivated and consistent efforts in the direction of improving morality in law that determine the stable interest on the part of students (and not only students). Behind this lies the socio-cultural need for the reproduction and cultivation of spiritual bonds. At the moment of the unity of the objective (true values) and the subjective (freedom at the personal level), a spark of living creativity appears, which cannot be evoked somehow artificially and edifyingly. Persistent demonstration of the mission of restoring justice also attracts due to its opposition to the evil. It is also important to understand the importance of constant moral and philosophical examination of problems and situations, which is directly related to improving the quality of training professionals.
