The potential eating quality of beef is set by the intrinsic structural and compositional characteristics of muscle. However, the extrinsic factors that prevail during the production of the animal, slaughter and processing of its carcass and finally, cooking can produce changes in these structural and compositional characteristics that ultimately manifest as large variations in beef palatability. The conditions that apply in the 24–48 h immediately before and after slaughter are recognised as having the largest influence on beef palatability. This review specifically examines the critical pre- and post-slaughter factors and discusses their putative effects on biochemical and physical changes in muscle and the consequences to beef palatability. Areas for future research within this domain are also discussed.

A Belgian study shows that the five most important meat attributes for the consumers are as follows: quality, taste, freshness, absence of hormones and healthiness (Verbeke and Viaene, 1999). This corroborates with the results of a French survey by Touraille (1992), who found that sensory properties and security aspects (hormones) of meat are of paramount importance for the consumer. It is important to direct pork production towards an acceptable product adapted to the consumer's demand. The objective of this study is to evaluate in which way and how strong the sensory quality parameters are influenced by different factors.

This article reviews the literature regarding the impact of cosmetic surgery on health-related quality of life (QOL). Studies were identified through PubMed/Medline and PsycINFO searches from January 1960 to December 2011. Twenty-eight studies were included in this review, according to specific selection criteria. The procedures and tools employed in cosmetic surgery research studies were remarkably diverse, thus yielding difficulties with data analysis. However, data indicate that individuals undergoing cosmetic surgery began with lower values on aspects of QOL than control subjects, and experienced significant QOL improvement post-procedurally, an effect that appeared to plateau with time.Despite the complexity of measuring QOL in cosmetic surgery patients, most studies showed an improvement in QOL after cosmetic surgery procedures. However, this finding was clouded by measurement precision as well as heterogeneity of procedures and study populations. Future research needs to focus on refining measurement techniques, including developing cosmetic surgery–specific QOL measures.

High learning motivation is influenced by some factors from intrinsic factor (in self) and extrinsic factor. This study aims to describe the intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors in learning motivation. This is a descriptive design study with quota random sampling. 90 respondents were involved in this study. Results of intrinsic factors measured by interest in the field of knowledge studied: 47.8% of respondents collect tasks given in accordance with the time set, and 41.1% of respondents diligently follow the lecture. The results of the study of extrinsic factors are measured by the quality of lecturers who teach: 51.1% of lecturers often provide questions clearly and briefly. Based on the method of lecturing: simulation methods in the laboratory often increase the motivation to learn. Based on the lecture’s room: 57.8% stated that a clean lecture’s room can improve the concentration of learning. Based on the complete book in the library: 47.8% encourage respondents to do the task quickly. Based on the learning facilities: 47.8% are always motivated to learn if the lecturer uses LCD. Support of parents (76.7%) in meeting the needs of respondents in learning. The management of nursing education is suggested to motivate students during lectures based on intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. Keywords : learning motivation, affecting factor, nursing student

Fifty-six college women completed surveys before and after terminating an abusive, heterosexual dating relationship. Whereas 64% of women had contact with their abusive partner post break-up, only 14% reported a moderate to high likelihood that they would return. Intentions to return were prospectively predicted by fewer perceived quality of alternatives, and cross-sectional correlates of intentions to return were being single, shorter time since relationship termination, having contact with one’s abusive ex-partner, and social pressure to return. These data can be used to inform intervention and advocacy efforts and to guide future research.

The use of Facebook in everyday life has become widespread all around the world regardless of countries and cultures. The largest group of Facebook users consists of young people, particularly university students. This study investigated the attitudes of university students toward Facebook, their major reasons for using this social media application in everyday life, and the factors affecting the types of desired relationships with Facebook friends. A survey consisting of 63 items about demographics of participants and their preferences for the use of Facebook was administered to collect data. The sample of the study included 924 undergraduate students from a large public university in North Cyprus. A number of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were employed to analyze data in relation to the research questions. Results suggested that the students generally had positive attitudes toward Facebook, although there were certain differences in terms of demographics. The primary reason for using Facebook was interpersonal communications with close friends. The most powerful factor affecting the types of relationships in Facebook was perceived quality of communication and/or socialization. Along with the other findings, implications of the results for future research were discussed.

Introduction: low back pain (LBP) is characterized by pain in the region between the last costal arches and the gluteal fold. It can occur due to several intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and it has a very high prevalence in adulthood, causing several problems which directly influence the quality of life. Neurosensory Postural Therapy (NPT) is a technique which uses manual neural stimulation to adjust muscle tone. Objective: The aim of the present study was to verify the effects of NPT on pain, mobility, flexibility, functionality, cardiac variability and body oscillation. Methodology: Seven women over 20 years old were recruited, which were evaluated before and after the technique, which consisted of pressure on the upper and lower roots of the sciatic nerve at 3 points for 60 seconds. Results: The mean pain score was 2.71 ± 1.38 and 1.35 ± 1.18, with a value of p = 0.02. For the Schöber test we obtained a mean of 21.93 ± 1.36 and 22.34 ± 1.30 cm in the pre- and post-test with p=0.01. No statistical difference was found in the Rolland Morris questionnaire. The electromyography obtained statistical difference in the analysis of the gluteus medius with p=0.02. Significant results (p=0.0001) were found in the lateral evaluation by the stabilometry and the HF/LF ratio showed difference with p=0.03 in the pretest and after 30 days. Conclusion: The technique of NPT has benefits in the parameters studies, demonstration being a fast technique with period of efficiency.

Article is devoted to the analysis of material on the relevance of congenital heart defects in the Kyrgyz Republic. The main groups of factors affecting the aetiology of congenital heart defects have been identified. Assessment of social, medical and legal provisions that have developed in cardiac surgery at the present stage dictates the need for monitoring before and after surgical correction, which can provide an improvement in the mechanism for providing medical care to patients. Based on the analysis, measures are proposed to improve the quality of medical care for this category of patients.

This chapter discusses sustainability in supply chains. It starts with a review of the concepts of sustainability and supply chain management; provides a discussion on the globalization of supply chains, its influence on sustainability, benefits of sustainable supply chains followed by the factors affecting the sustainability of supply chains, challenges in integrating sustainability into supply chains and managerial implications. It discusses the influence of supply chains on the triple bottom line. Examples of major factors affecting environmental and social sustainability include travel distances, modes of transportation, vessels used, frequency of trips, packaging materials, efficiencies of manufacturing processes, efficiencies in power generation/distribution, treatments given to polluted air/water generated during various processing from industries, expected product lifetime, manufactured quality of items, management of items failed during warranty or transportation, and the management of disposal of items, among others. The chapter concludes with a future research agenda.
