Introduction: low back pain (LBP) is characterized by pain in the region between the last costal arches and the gluteal fold. It can occur due to several intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and it has a very high prevalence in adulthood, causing several problems which directly influence the quality of life. Neurosensory Postural Therapy (NPT) is a technique which uses manual neural stimulation to adjust muscle tone. Objective: The aim of the present study was to verify the effects of NPT on pain, mobility, flexibility, functionality, cardiac variability and body oscillation. Methodology: Seven women over 20 years old were recruited, which were evaluated before and after the technique, which consisted of pressure on the upper and lower roots of the sciatic nerve at 3 points for 60 seconds. Results: The mean pain score was 2.71 ± 1.38 and 1.35 ± 1.18, with a value of p = 0.02. For the Schöber test we obtained a mean of 21.93 ± 1.36 and 22.34 ± 1.30 cm in the pre- and post-test with p=0.01. No statistical difference was found in the Rolland Morris questionnaire. The electromyography obtained statistical difference in the analysis of the gluteus medius with p=0.02. Significant results (p=0.0001) were found in the lateral evaluation by the stabilometry and the HF/LF ratio showed difference with p=0.03 in the pretest and after 30 days. Conclusion: The technique of NPT has benefits in the parameters studies, demonstration being a fast technique with period of efficiency.

Various questionnaires are used in patients who undergo rhinologic surgeries but a unique comprehensive questionnaire is needed to evaluate quality of life (QOL) in rhinologic surgeries. The purpose of this study was to prepare a comprehensive questionnaire and compare QOL among four common rhinologic surgeries including functional endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, septorhinoplasty, and septoplasty with turbinoplasty preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. This was a prospective interventional before-and-after study. Preoperative and 6 months postoperative evaluations were performed with a Modified Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) questionnaire designed to cover all needed QOL aspects and the 22-item Sino-nasal Outcome Test questionnaire to cover all needed QOL aspects. The Modified HRQL included 33 items in six subgroups (nasal symptoms, sleep problems, headache, nonnasal symptoms, and practical and emotional problems) and general feeling. From 202 patients who completed the questionnaire before the procedures, 146 (72% of all patients) who were interviewed 6 months postoperatively were included in this study. Comparing preoperative data between followed up patients and missed patients showed no statistical difference among surgeries (p = 0.90). Comparison of patient's pre- and postoperative QOL showed a significant improvement in global QOL and in all questionnaire items (p < 0.0001 in all comparisons). Comparison of QOL changes before and after surgery among different surgeries revealed no statistical difference (p = 0.282). Our data showed a significant improvement in each surgery but the amount of improvement in different surgeries was almost constant.

Background: Siwak or miswak is obtained from the branches and stems of the Salvadora persica plant that grows in the Middle Eastern plains and commonly used as a toothbrush to clean teeth and gingival structures. Miswak contains natural antibacterial acids (astringents, abrasives and detergents) which function to kill bacteria, prevent infection and stop bleeding in the gum. Chemical substances such as Chloride, Pottasium, Sodium Bicarbonate, Fluoride, Silica, Sulfur, Vitamin C, Trimethylamine, Salvadorine, and Tannins which function to clean teeth, whiten and nourish teeth and gingiva. How to brush your teeth has an effect on reducing or removing plaque. Efforts to clean plaque can be done by brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth using a toothbrush is a form of mechanical removal of plaque. It can be done through several methods, including the method of Bass, Stillman, Fones, and adapted to the movements named Vertical and Horizontal. The bass method is a tooth brushing technique that is done by placing a 45-degree toothbrush on the root of the tooth and then gently pressing it while doing a small rotating motion. The tip of the toothbrush is directed to the gingival neck. The bass method is more effective for removing plaque around and below the edge of the gingiva. Controlled movements are used to get rid of plaque and avoid trauma to the gingiva. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the comparison of plaque scores between brushing tooth with traditional (Miswak) and bass methods on students of the Pondok Pesantren Darul Hijrah Putera Banjarbaru. Method: This study used the Quasi experimental research method with Pre and Post-test. Results: The results of statistical tests using the non-parametric test of the Man Whitney test showed a value of p = 0,000 (p ≤ 0,05), the results showed that there were significant differences between the plaque scores before and after the tooth brushing treatment with the miswak and bass method. Conclusion: The bass method group has a lower plaque score than the miswak group.
