This study sought to determine the effectiveness of an integrated study strategy system that used self-assigned student writing as a means of learning psychology content. Sixty-five college freshmen from four sections of a reading/study strategy course were trained over a 3-week period to use either a question-answer recitation format or PORPE (Predict, Organize, Rehearse, Practice, and Evaluate). All subjects took an initial and delayed multiple choice test and an essay exam which were used as the dependent measures. The essays were scored for content, organization, and cohesion. The results indicated that the students trained in PORPE scored significantly better than the Question-Answer students on both the recall and recognition measures. In addition, the PORPE essay answers were significantly more organized and cohesive than the essays of the students trained in answering questions. It was concluded that PORPE can be a potent, durable, and efficient independent study strategy for college students in their efforts to learn content area concepts.

Two experiments investigated the information conveyed by intonation from speaker to listener. A multiple-choice test was devised to test the ability of 48 adults to recognize and label intonation when it was separated from all other meaning. Nine intonation contours whose labels were most agreed upon by adults were each matched with two English sentences (one with appropriate and one with inappropriate intonation and semantic content) to make a matching-test for children. The matching-test was tape-recorded and given to children in the first, third, and fifth grades (32 subjects in each grade). The first-grade children matched the intonations with significantly greater agreement than chance; but they agreed upon significantly fewer sentences than either the third or fifth graders. Some intonation contours were matched with significantly greater frequency than others. The performance of the girls was better than that of the boys on an impatient question and a simple command which indicates that there was a significant interaction between sex and intonation.

This paper aims at measuring the extent of some translation students' competence of grammatical aspect compounds (strings) and their adequacy in rendering them in English. It also tries to establish which strings students tend to mistranslate. The researchers designed a multiple-choice test, using Google form, in which a given Arabic text is provided with four alternatives: one correct answer and three distractors. The test was distributed to students from translation departments at Yarmouk University and the German Jordanian University enrolled in the second semester, 2020 via the E-learning systems. Responses of students (202 out of 300 from YU and 63 out of 86 from GJU) were collected in tables. The researchers used One-way ANOVA and Scheffe Test to analyze the data. The paper has concluded that there are no significant differences among students with regard to gender, study plan, level of study, and taking Arabic courses traditionally taught. However, students joining Yarmouk University and the German-Jordan University from international and private schools are better than those coming from public schools. The majority of students do not have problems with the simple present and simple future and their perfective and progressive aspects, nor do they with past perfect. However, they confuse the perfective and progressive aspects of the simple present and the simple past. Keywords: Grammatical aspects, Arabic grammar, English grammar, Translation Yarmouk University, German-Jordanian University.

Adult subjects were given concrete and abstract textbook passages to study by using either an imaginai or verbal strategy. Two days later, they were given a multiple-choice test and a production test of comprehension. The verbal strategy produced better comprehension than the imaginai strategy; concrete passages were comprehended better than abstract passages, but only according to the production test; and strategy and concreteness did not interact. Differences between these results and results obtained in imagery research on word lists are discussed, and caution is advised before generalizing the word research to meaningful prose learning by adults

This experiment compares the yes-no and forced recognition tests as methods of measuring familiarity. Participants faced a phase of 3 study-test recognition trials in which they studied words using all the letters of the alphabet (overlapping condition, O), and an additional phase in which targets and lures did not share any letters (non-overlapping condition, NO). Finally, subjects performed a forced-choice task in which they had to choose one of two new words, each from one of the subsets (Parkin et al., 2001). Results in the NO condition were better than in the O condition in the yes-no recognition test, while the forced-choice rate was significantly higher than .50, showing their sensitivity to familiarity. When the letter set of the words for study in the third list of the NO condition was switched, the difference between NO and O conditions disappeared in yes-no test, while the force-choice rate was not higher than .50. We conclude that both the yes-no test and the forced-choice test are valid and equivalent measures of familiarity under the right conditions.

The study was designed to investigate the learning and retention of prose materials. Immediate and 1-wk retention was examined in Ss who had either read a 2,300-word passage (LP) on science fiction or a 300-word short passage (SP). The short passage was derived from the information retained over a 1-wk period by Ss who read and learned the long passage. Retention was assessed by a 30-item multiple-choice test based upon information in the long passage. One-way analysis of variance of posttest scores from 200 adults indicated that for 1-wk retention the short passage was retained significantly ( p < .01) better than the long one. There was no significant difference on immediate retention. The results were discussed in terms of current cognitive learning theory, prose-learning paradigms, and classroom procedures related to the presentation of new material.

Pencak silat is one of the archipelago cultures that must be preserved. Many people want to learn silat. Fighters need a good memory in practicing, to remember every silat movement. This must be done repeatedly to understand. For independent study, the only media available are manual books and no teaching aids. This causes the fighter to experience difficulties. Based on these problems, a medium is needed as a prop that can help fighters remember silat movements. To solve this problem, this research will make a learning media using augmented reality-based silat movement guide book (ARBook). This learning media serves as a guide to basic silat movements in the form of Android-based 3D animation visualization, with the aim of being a martial arts props. This makes this method better than the conventional manual method. Based on the results of alpha testing using a black box. So from these data, it can be seen that the 3D AR pencak silat motion application runs and in accordance with the specified functionality are included in the feasible category. In Beta testing that uses the acceptance method, 86% of respondents agree that the AR 3D Silat Motion Application is very useful, then 87% of respondents agree that it is easy to use, then 84% of respondents agree that the animated content is presented, and 79% of respondents are interested in using the Motion Application AR 3D Silat. Suppose calculated to have an average value of 84%. So it can be concluded that the value of 84% is included in the "Very Appropriate" category. Broadly speaking, Alpha and Beta testing shows that this application is considered very feasible and usable.

The objectives of this study are to: (1) describe the appropriateness of textbooks used by seventh grade junior high school with the criteria of good textbooks developed by Ur’s theory, and (2) reveal the strengths and weaknesses of each textbook. This research was conducted using evaluation research. The data was obtained through document analysis and interviewing expert. Ur’s theory was used to analyze the data. The objects of this research for analysis were two English textbooks; WERB and Bright for seventh grade junior high school. The research found out When English Ring a Bell meets eight criteria of a good textbook by Ur. They are: objectives explicitly laid out in an introduction, attractive layout and visual material, interesting and various topics, the content organization, and graded adequate guidance for the teacher, and readiness of the textbook. Bright meets all the criteria of a good textbook. The researcher also found the strength of WERB lies in its colorful and attractive layout and the textbook also presents various topics that motivate the students to practice actively. There is teachers’ book as guidelines. Meanwhile, the strength of Bright lies in clear layout, pictures and illustration, four skills are covered. Its main weaknesses are the dull color of this textbook and no teacher’s book is provided. The researcher concludes that Bright is better than WERB. This book is appropriate with criteria of good textbooks and used by teacher and student. It is available in many bookstores. Bright is also compatible in terms of coherence and unity of ideas among units and language content.

An investigation was carried out at the Animal House cum Rodent Laboratory, Department of Entomology, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat during 2013-14 to evaluate the efficacy of four anticoagulant rodenticides against commensal rodent, Mus musculus. The efficacy of anticoagulant rodenticides viz., brodifacoum, flocoumafen and difenacoum along with bromadiolone were evaluated against Mus musculus under no-choice and choice feeding trial. In both choice and nochoice feeding trials the efficacy of brodifacoum (0.005%) wax block was significantly better than flocoumafen (0.005%) and difenacoum (0.005%) but at par with bromadiolone (0.005%). In no-choice feeding trial, 100 per cent mortality was achieved with brodifacoum and bromadiolone within 4-7 days observation period but significantly lower mortality was recorded in flocoumafen (80%) and difenacoum (60%). The wax block formulation of difenacoum showed poor palatability as more consumption of plain bait was recorded over poison bait against test animals. Under no-choice test, the poison ingested between male and female were not significant in case of all the toxicants. The consumption of poison bait by the test animals of both the sexes under choice test was reduced in comparison to no-choice test because of availability of an alternate plain food along with the poison bait. The post treatment consumption of bait was significantly lower in case of brodifacoum and bromadiolone in comparison to flocoumafen and difenacoum. This shows the effectiveness of these two rodenticides viz. brodifacoum and bromadiolone against rodent species.

Two methods for adapting a seventh-grade physical science text were investigated. In one approach, Precision Teaching (PT), specially designed see-to-say and see-to-write practice sheets were used featuring the important words and definitions of a chapter. For the other method, Study Guide (SG), sheets emphasizing the sequenced main ideas of a chapter were developed. Experimental, control, and contrast groups were formed in seven science classrooms at one school to assess the effects of the adaptations. PT was scheduled in four sections, SG in three. Gain scores on a multiple-choice test indicated that the two adaptations were equally effective. Youngsters who received either treatment did better than those who did not. Further, positive changes were noted for pupils at all achievement levels, including LD children.

Basalt fiber has good sea water resistance, heat resistance and sound insulation. This shows that, basalt fiber is ideal material for ship manufacturing. Because of the bad fiber permeability, using VARTM process to produce large basalt fiber marine components still has deficiency. Taking basalt fiber/vinyl resin composite shell as object, research was taken to find the method of improving resin flow velocity and suitable resin injection strategy system in VARTM process. The results show that air release additive contributes to the resin’s flow in preform body, and the tensile strength and flexural strength of components increase with the increase of air release additive’s quantum when the quantum less than 0.5%. The resin flow’s frontier of the components made by sequence injection strategy is always keeping the same and its velocity is uniform, which makes its quality is better than that made by embranchment injection strategy.
