The concept of cold-formed light steel framing construction has been widespread after understanding its structural characteristics with massive research works over the years. Connection serves as one of the important elements for light steel framing in order to achieve its structural stability. Compared to hot-rolled steel sections, cold-formed steel connections perform dissimilarity due to the thin-walled behaviour. This paper aims to review current researches on cold-formed steel connections, particularly for screw connections, storage rack connections, welded connections, and bolted connections. The performance of these connections in the design of cold-formed steel structures is discussed.

Abstract Cold-formed steel structures represents an alternative to classic buildings made of hot rolled steel profiles which bring a lot of savings based on advanced calculations and also some practical measures in order to provide optimum strength and weight ratio. Due to these advantages, cold-formed steel structures are used in more technical fields including automotive industry, storage industry, military sheltering and of course building industry. The paper is focused on the economic impact of using lightweight members for the main applications of these structures – roof structures and cladding support. The comparison will be made between classic system with hot formed purlins and advanced lightweight purlins made of cold-formed steel elements, in the same practical situation.

Cold formed steel portal frames are widely used as alternative to traditional portal frames made from hot rolled steel sections. Load-displacement response of cold formed steel single C-section portal frames is available. C- section portal frames undergo significant deformation before reaching their ultimate loads. In this study, cold formed steel angle portal frame is analyzed using finite element analysis in order to find the load-displacement response. Bolt pressure is applied at the location of physical bolts in ANSYS. Keywords- Cold formed steel portal frames, fasteners, bolts, connections, Numerical modelling

Using capacity of cold-formed steel sections increases thanks to the opportunities which are offered by the developing technology. Low production cost and variety of profiles that can be produce easy, fast, high quality provide to improve its popularity as a structural material. In production, Sulphur and Phosphorous accumulation region occurs at intersection region of flanges and web of hot rolled steel profile. This causes to decrease strength of profile. Other difference between cold-formed and hot rolled steel sections is that mechanical properties of steel material homogeneously distributes throughout the profile. Both in frame and truss systems, cold-formed steel profiles develop both as main and secondary bearing element. These present variety options to the designers with pure, galvanized, aluminized applications. As with many building materials, mechanical behavior of cold-formed steel profile is quite complex due to the nature of thin walled steel sections. Design and analysis methods of cold-formed steel profile are rapidly shaped day by day. The general theory of beams investigated in past studies make possible analyses of cold-formed steel profile. Moreover, in structural systems, using of cold-formed steel profile provide height strength besides sustainable, environmentalist, green building because it requires less material and cost. Although these profiles have many advantages, use of cold-formed steel profiles in our country structures is rather limited unfortunately. New steel construction regulations in Turkey also do not mention cold-formed thin walled steel structure. Main purpose of this study reviews structural specifications of cold-formed steel profiles which are applied world-wide.

Kata kunci: kombinasi, sambungan, baut, sekrup, CFS ABSTRACTNowadays, Cold Formed Steel (CFS) materials is more commonly used because of its known tensile strength than Hot Rolled Steel (HRS) material. The behavior of bolt and screw combination connections of CFS was identified to know the type of failure and connection capacity. A maximum load of tensile testing was applied to two type of CFS materials. The specimens in this study consisted of two variations CFS sheet sizes 40 mm x 340 mm and 40 mm x 360 mm. The first sheet is used for screw connectors, bolt with washers, and bolt without washers. The second sheet is used for screw connectors combined with bolts without washer and screw connectors combined with bolts and washer. The results showed that the slip value of the bolt connection specimens with washers was greater than the bolt connection specimens without washer. The tensile capacity value obtained by the bolt combination connection with washer and screw was more rodust than the one without washer and screw. The failure patterns of tensile testing were a pull-through and fracture failures. Keywords: combination, connection, bolt, screw, CFSABSTRAK Saat ini, material Cold Formed Steel (CFS) lebih umum digunakan karena kekuatan tariknya yang diketahui daripada material Hot Rolled Steel (HRS). Abstract ARMCO FORMABLE 70 HR is a hot-rolled steel with excellent ductility, weldability and edge-tear resistance at a minimum yield strength of 70,000 psi (483 MPa). For this relatively high strength level, it has unusually good fabricating properties that are the result of closely controlled processing of a fully killed, low-carbon, vacuum-degassed, columbium-alloyed steel. This special composition and processing practice minimize harmful nonmetallic inclusions that hamper formability. Typical applications include automotive reinforcements, truck parts and construction components. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SA-359. Producer or source: Armco Inc., Eastern Steel Division.
