Abstract The need to come up with economical and efficient structural design led the engineers and researchers to focus more on shell structures. It is more durable, economical as it requires a minimum amount of material provides larger interior space and is aesthetic. A shell dominantly behaves as a membrane, though, at the edges, bending stresses get accumulated. Albeit several theories have been put forward, Schorer’s theory is eminent in the analysis of the long span thin cylindrical shells. This study is focused on the analysis of the stresses by utilizing the Fourier series and Schorer’s theory. Further, the shell is designed for the steel reinforcement as per the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) Design Handbook after calculating the final stress resultants and the detailing is also depicted.

In order to realize the need for lightweight automobiles through replacing steel with plastics, the research and development of the plastic clutch pump body based on the friction welding was carried out. For the clutch pump body connected by friction welding process between the upper pump body and the lower pump body, the technical requirements of pressure 14 MPa and durability (high temperature 7.0 × 104 times, room temperature 7.0 × 105) are required. The structure type of the upper and lower pump bodies of the end face welding type was proposed. Through the static analysis of the pump body and weld and the mechanical analysis under the working condition, the structure of the clutch pump body (upper and lower pump body) was determined. According to the established welding process, the pressure of the clutch pump body is more than 15 MPa, and the number of high-temperature durable circulation and the number of room temperature durable circulation also reached 7.2×104 and 7.3×105 times respectively. The results show that the structural design of a clutch pump body meets the design requirements.

In this works 3D modeling, design and safety management of high rise building using building information modeling (BIM) technology is carried out.. Initially a AutoCAD plan with all its salient features is developed following byelaws of high rise building. Then the 3D modeling and rendering of high rise building is done in the Revit architecture of the 2D plan which is imported from the AutoCAD. The analysis and design of high rise building is carried out using ETabs software. Apart from the structural design Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) services design is carried out using BIM technology . The layout of fire safety system is specified efficiently with use of BIM in co-ordination with MEP services. The application of BIM based design process resulted in considerable time reduction in compression with traditional design process and the holistic design of the high rise building is carried out with the compatibility of different softwares.

The work proposes the reuse of wastewater from the Faculty of Agronomic Engineering of the Technical University of Manabí, located in the Lodana parish in the city of Portoviejo, to irrigate the diversity of plantations that exist in the institution as a banana, cocoa and lemon. In the work, the results of the physical-chemical and bacteriological analysis carried out on the residual water generated in the institution are offered, being able to verify that it does not meet the parameters required to be used in the irrigation of crops. The technical scheme of the proposed treatment system is shown, specifying the structure of the zeolite filter. The calculations made for the technical and structural design of each of the devices that make up the proposed treatment system are provided. The analysis of the performance of the system that is illustrated with a series of data reflected in tables is exposed and where an efficiency between 84% and 88% can be verified. A review of compliance with environmental regulations is carried out and an economic analysis is provided on the cost of the investment for the introduction of the system in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of the Technical University of Manabí.

Abstract Diving depth is the criteria for designing the submarine pressure hull meant to achieve a definite collapse depth. In this study, a methodology to optimize a sandwich composite deep pressure hull is presented. Buoyancy factor (BF) minimization is considered as an objective function. The optimization process is achieved by ANSYS parametric design language (APDL). Composites failure criteria and structural stability are considered as constraints. Additionally, sensitivity analyses were conducted to analyze the effects of geometric parameters on optimal structural design. The results showed that, the utilization of a sandwich composite pressure hull for a deep submarine at extreme depths is not safe. Additionally, the results propose that the submarine designed should be able to operate at a maximum diving depth of up to 7500 m.

In this paper, a component-based parametric reduced-order modeling (PROM) technique for vibration analysis of complex structures is presented, and applications to both structural design optimization and uncertainty analysis are shown. In structural design optimization, design parameters are allowed to vary in the feasible design space. In probabilistic analysis, selected model parameters are assumed to have predefined probability distributions. For both cases, each realization corresponding to a specific set of parameter values could be evaluated accurately based on the exact modes for the system with those parametric values. However, as the number of realizations increases, this approach becomes prohibitively expensive, especially for largescale finite element models. Recently, a PROM method that employs a fixed projection basis was introduced to avoid the eigenanalysis for each variation while retaining good accuracy. The fixed basis is comprised of a combination of selected mode sets of the full model calculated at only a few sampling points in the parameter space. However, the preparation for the basis may still be cumbersome, and the simulation cost and the model size increase rapidly as the number of parameters increases. In this work, a component-based approach is taken to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the PROM technique. In particular, a component mode synthesis method is employed so that the parameter changes are captured at the substructure level and the analysis procedure is accelerated. Numerical results are presented for two example problems, a design optimization of a pickup truck and a probabilistic analysis of a simple L-shaped plate. It is shown that the new component-based approach significantly improves the efficiency of the PROM technique.
