FCR or feed conversion ratio is one of the strategic indicators on pond production which is very important for determining the costs incurred during the shrimp culture period. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between water physico-chemical parameters and the conversion rate of shrimp feed in intensive shrimp ponds (Litopenaeus vannamei). The research method used in this study is the ex-pose facto design during shrimp culture cycle with uniformity of treatment during the cultivation process, then the research collective data obtained periodically is analyzed by multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that all pond water quality variables based on quality standards are still in accordance with the standards intended for aquaculture. While based on regression analysis and t-test, the temperature variable is the only parameter that has a direct influence on the FCR efficiency by shrimp. As well as temperature, salinity, and alkalinity variables are parameters that have a close level of relationship to the FCR value in the ponds of 84.1%, 79.1%, and 69.9%. The conclusion of this study is that in intensive ponds the parameters of temperature, salinity, and alkalinity are water quality parameters that have a close relationship with the efficiency of FCR values in ponds, with temperature parameters being the water quality variable which has a direct influence on the effectiveness of the feed conversion ratio by shrimp.

HighlightsLitopenaeus vannamei has been established as alternative to Penaeus monodon to shrimp farming in several countries.Increased importance of in situ microorganisms both in regulating biogeochemical cycles within the culture environment and in directly affecting shrimp growth and survival. To improve water quality in aquaculture is the application of probiotics and/or enzymes to ponds. AbstractIntensive shrimp farming has raised environmental issues due to aquaculture pollution, which is caused by uneaten feed, feces, organic matter, and toxic compounds (ammonia and H2S). One way to solve this issue is by using probiotics. Thus, this study aimed at investigating the effect of probiotic administration (Pseudomonas sp. and Bacillus sp.) at varying concentrations on total organic matter in the rearing water, feed conversion ratio, feed efficiency, and growth rate of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). This study used a Completely Randomized Design consisting of four treatments: T0 (without the probiotic supplementations), T1 (probiotics at 106 CFU/ml), T2 (probiotics at 107 CFU/mL), T3 (probiotics at 108 CFU/mL) with three replicates each. The results showed that the administration of probiotics at different concentrations had a significant effect on the total amount of organic matter, feed conversion ratio, feed efficiency, and specific growth rate of white shrimp. Administration of probiotics at a concentration of 107 CFU/ ml had the lowest organic matter in the rearing water, 138 mg /Lt. While probiotic administration at 108 CFU/ ml gave the lowest feed conversion ratio (1.22), the highest feed efficiency (81.57%) and the best growth rate (2.25%/day). This research suggests that the administration of 107-108 CFU/ ml probiotics could be applied to reduce organic content in the rearing water and improve the growth performances of white shrimp.

One species of shrimps that has the potential to be developed for aquaculture is whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). The recent cultivation method has been developed using intensive technology, but can only be afforded by middle and upper social groups (capital intensive). This research was aimed to study the influence of using shrimp juvenile on the production and feed conversion ratio of whiteleg shrimp cultured in intensive system. The research was conducted at the research installation of the Research Institute for Coastal Aquaculture in Punaga, Takalar Regency. Four  ponds each sized of 4,000 m2 were used in this research. The treatment was applied i.e grow-out of post-larvae 12 (PL-12) (A) and grow-out of shrimp juvenile (PL-27) (B) each with stocking density of 50 ind./m2. Each treatment was arranged in two replications and reared for 80 days. The results obtained in treatment B showed that absolute growth (11.114±0.258 g/ind.), survival (92,55±0,23%), and production (2,087.5±88.2 kg/pond) was higher than those of in treatment A (absolute growth, 10.085±0.120 g/ind., survival rate, 90.83±8.51%, production, 1,831.0±149.9 kg/pond), but all parameters were not significantly different between both treatments. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was lower in treatment B (1.096±0034) and significantly different with treatment A (1.257±0.048). Water quality parameters showed similar variations in both treatments, except Nitrite (NO2) where a high range of Nitrite variation was recorded in treatment B (0.18235 mg/L) compared to treatment A (0.0328 mg/L) at the end of research. This was due to different harvest times in accordance with the conditions of the season where at a particular time, the quality of water source was decreasing. The decrease of water quality was followed by the increase of total vibrio in seawater reaching 433104 CFU/mL than in the pond water 829.102 CFU/mL. The conclusion is that using the shrimp juvenile, PL-27, high shrimp production and low RKP can be achieved.

The objective of the study is to compare the practical results with the predicted results by Crossbreeding Effects (CBE) software on pig crossbred based on daily gain, backfat thickness and feed conversion ratio. Another purpose of this study is to predict those three traits among some expected hybridization. This research was conducted on pig farm at Binh Thang Research and Development center from 2013 to 2017. In this study, for each pair of purebred Duroc and Pietrain, Duroc and Landrace, Pietrain and Landrace, twelve hybridizations were analyzed, nine unhybridizations were predicted by CBE software. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the predicted and actual data. With some unhybridization crossbred , the predictions showed high reliability (P<0.05). Based on the predicted data of CBE software , some traits of the crossbred animals would not be improved, therefore, it was not necessary to conduct these hybridizations

Footpad dermatitis (FPD) is a major foot disease in modern poultry production, and it affects both poultry health and animal welfare. It refers to inflammation and necrotizing lesions on the plantar surface of the footpads and toes. We investigated the effects of providing a swimming pool and different floor types on growth performance and FPD score in indoor-reared White Roman geese. Forty-eight male and 48 female White Roman geese were randomly allocated to pens with or without a swimming pool and with either mud or perforated plastic floor and reared from 15 to 84 days of age. Growth performance measurements included feed intake (FI), weight gain (WG), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). FI, WG, and FCR were significantly decreased at various growth periods in geese provided with a pool. Lower WG and bodyweight for the perforated plastic floor group were found at 15–28 and 28 days of age, respectively. The geese reared on the perforated plastic floors without a pool had higher FPD scores at 70 and 84 days of age than those with other rearing conditions. A higher incidence of FPD score 1 was observed in geese raised without a pool. In conclusion, providing a pool can improve footpad health in indoor-reared White Roman geese but may not benefit growth performance.
